Move over, Toyota Corolla – the world has a new top-selling vehicle, and it’s electric. The Tesla Model Y topped the global sales charts for the first quarter of 2023, according to data compiled by automotive industry specialist of Felipe Muñoz of market research firm JATO Dynamics and published by Motor1. Tesla CEO Elon Musk said in August 2022 he expected the Model Y would become the best-selling vehicle in the world in 2023, though it remains to be seen whether the electric SUV can hold the top spot throughout the rest of the year. The data shows Tesla sold 267,200 Model Ys, which it produces in the US, China and Germany. This was an increase of around 69 per cent compared with the same period last year. https://www.carexpert.com.au/car-news/tesla-model-y-becomes-worlds-best-selling-car-report ___________________________ The people have spoken. Electric is the future.
The Model Y is suitable as a local runabout and has found a market space in that role. It remains unsuitable for roles requiring longer range.
Time to end all the subsidies and coercive government mandates then? Do you have enough faith that electric can stand on its own in a free market?
Give 'em long enough that the batteries won't recharge anymore then do a survey of how proud people are to own electric vehicles. It's not like changing the batteries in your remote.
Tesla batteries should last between 300,000 and 500,000 miles. "Based on an average driving distance of 260 miles per week, a new Tesla battery can last anywhere between 22 and 37 years. However, how long your Tesla battery will last depends on how you take care of the EV battery. For instance, you can degrade your EV battery faster if you often supercharge it. In addition to that, your EV battery could degrade faster if it’s exposed to extremely low or high temperatures and if it is frequently rapid-charged."
OIC Elon Musk has developed batteries that can be recharged almost indefinitely. Is he keeping that technology from the rest of us? Why is it then that my rechargeable batteries go bad after only a few cycles? Tesla owners will probably be unloading them on unsuspecting buyers when service techs tell the batteries may need to be replaced soon.
Source? What happens to the charge capacity and mileage between charges of the Tesla battery in the New England winters?
https://twitter.com/elonmusk/status/1117099861273219073 According to Musk individual driver behavior over time will make a large difference, just as it does with ICE cars. So really the answer to your question depends on the driver.
Twitter?? From Car and Driver: “All EVs sold today include a battery warranty of at least eight years and 100,000 miles. Tesla, for instance, offers an eight-year battery warranty and coverage of between 100,000–150,000 miles depending on the specific model”
So that's the warranty length. Here is the related article https://www.makeuseof.com/tesla-battery-lifespan/
Warranties generally don't cover until end of product life. Interesting that you think it should because of Musk
