noted professor and philosopher cornell west will be seeking the green nomination for 2024. i like west, and may vote for him (louisiana's electoral votes will be for trump no matter who i vote for (and probably no matter who is the repub nominee). that said, it is imperative that trump be stopped by any means. the entry of attractive 3rd party candidates, does not assist this necessary policy.
Cornel West, is a far left disaster waiting to happen. Do any of remember Bill de Blasio, the previous Mayor of New York City? He was a total disaster. When he got done, EVERYBODY wanted him out, left, right and center of the political spectrum. When he announced that he was thinking about running for Governor of New York, he polled zero. He had no support. This is were an extremist hater like Cornel West would be.
Given the polarization in the present-day United States of America, the power of our two major political parties, and the degree to which the election of a president deviates from the 'one man, one vote' of a pure democracy, the utility of a third party vote is questionable. Regards, stay safe 'n well.
Okay, I had to look him up. He does have interesting views on politics and race relations in the US. That said, he is running as president for the People's Party, a minor third party in the US. This party will have its work cut out for them because they have to go to each of the 50 states, plus the District of Columbia to put his name on the ballot come November 2024. I don't think the political party, founded in 2017, is going to get 5, including Florida, not not even 1% of the total vote, if that. I think the Democratic Party is too "conservative" based on his political views, so that's out. But all he will be is a minor footnote in the 2024 election come November. But I do wish him well though.
This guy is a professional race hustler. I've seen him speak like over 10 times. You guys have an awesome candidate that ya'll chose to shun. His name is RFK and people from BOTH sides like him.
While everyone has the right to run, West's choosing this election, to state his case, does not indicate that he has very good judgement. It is a sure thing, that he will not win-- still, I understand that a national campaign can just be about getting a wider platform, to advocate for your issues. In 2024, however, if West were to pull a notable part of the black vote, there are several states, in which he could change the result from Democrat (who 90% of blacks typically support) to Republican. The most obvious state this could affect, is the very close, Purple State of Georgia, which is 33% black. But Illinois, also, is over 16% black, and Michigan is 15.76% black. Also, because of the thin margins of victory, states like (11.3% black) Pennsylvania, (10.8% black) Nevada, maybe even 5.76% black Arizona, could shift columns. And it's not just the Purple States: Virginia, which only turned Blue in 2008, and only beat Republicans by 5 points in 2016 (49.7% to 44.4%), and 10 points in 2020 (54.1% to 44%), is 21.6% black. This is a very foolish move, of West's. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_U.S._states_and_territories_by_African-American_population
better than ralph nader? not likely. third parties are very marginalized in our system. if i had an "issue" i could display it much better at a democratic debate than in a midnight interview on c span 2.
West will likely more successfully achieve for team Trump, what they had been hoping that a Kanyé West candidacy, which they'd undoubtedly encouraged, might accomplish: the siphoning off of enough black votes from Biden, to hand Trump another victory. Funny coincidence, about the last names, being the same.
No one rational should want West's issues addressed. They're better left to a competent psychologist in any case.
I kinda agree, I would like to see a 3rd party come in just to upset the balance and put Dems and Repubs on notice, whether it's Green or Libertarian or Independent or Socialist or whatever, but none of them make you go "wow, that guy is amazing!"
