https://www.insider.com/arkansas-deputy-shoot-pomeranian-woman-lawsuit-columbia-county-2023-8 This guy is an absolute idiot, who not only isn't fit to be a cop, but isn't fit to carry in public. Even the most basic firearms training teaches one to be aware of what is behind their target before firing. This cop fired in the direction of his partner, the woman on her porch, and whoever else was inside the house... and sure enough he hit someone. This happened because he was being charged by a friggin Pomeranian. As someone who works in a pet hospital, I can say with absolute certainty that there is absolutely no way that this dog was a threat to the officer's life. The dog was not the danger in this situation, the idiot who fired his gun was.
Sounds like this PD in AR needs to do some mental evals on recruits... Shooting a Pomeranian seems to indicate some sociopathic tendencies...
LMAO, yeah I can't imagine that there are too many Pomeranians that are a threat. That said, as a kid, I had a paper route before leash laws, and the smaller dogs were definitely more territorial.
Notice how calm his partner was, he was completely unfazed by the dogs, and they were literally right there next to him.
Wow... Quite a story... Agreed... In other words, just like MOST Cops... Very true... Still...Pomeranians RULE!
Smaller dogs tend to act more aggressively than big dogs, as you can see in the video. The larger dog wasn't even acting aggressively, that was alert barking that the bigger dog was doing, and not aggressive barking. The Pomeranian was acting aggressively, but was likely only doing so because the officer was yelling at its owner. Whatever the case, the aggressive dog was not a threat to the officer's life. The officer who was in danger in that moment was the one at the front door, but not because of the dogs, but because his partner was firing his weapon in his direction.
Charged by a Pomeranian? One of these? And he felt the need to shoot it? WTF is this ***** doing with a gun and a badge?
Could the alert type barking have added to the smaller dogs behavior. ? In the end, it was a cheap move by the officer, a swift kick or even the threat of one should be enough. Hard to say his safety was in danger.
there were multiple dogs but the ankle biter came the closest. Dogs don't like pepper spray. Piss-poor judgement by the officer
JUst a hint for this cop: For a Pomeranian all you really need is a loud voice, or absolute worst case scenario a boot.
Pomeranians are seriously psychotic little dogs. Probably all of the end breeding required to achieve the breed. But of course this was a ridiculous over reaction. What a frickin moron... Then he's going to sit there and keep denying that he shot her.
The ankle biter was the only dog acting aggressively, but even if the other dogs had, the owner had control of those other dogs at the moment that the Pomeranian charged. Pepper spray probably wouldn't have even been necessary with a Pomeranian, but it certainly would have done the trick if it were the larger dogs acting up. Dog trainers use a spray called citronella spray to break up fights. I've used it once to break up a dog fight, and it worked pretty well. All it is is a spray with a powerful scent, it doesn't even need to be sprayed in the dog's eyes or anything, the scent alone deters the dogs. Pepper spray would likely have the same effect on dogs, but again, you really don't need it for a Pomeranian.
I've been bit by a Pomeranian. They like other Fifis are aggressive. I'll never understand why it's the little dogs that bite. Anyway, the bite didn't even break skin.
Chihuahuas are very territorial and pretty much fearless. But Pomeranians are absolute killers, I mean, look at how ferocious this dog looks. I'm terrified just looking at a picture of one. And the cop is an idiot. If he can't control a 5 pound dog then what good is he?
Both dogs were barking and one wasn’t a Pomeranian. But still cop was an idiot. If the dog that size attacks you, you boot it. You don’t shoot NEAR people. It’s NOT a Pitbull
Ahh yes, an anecdote being used by the irrational to make sweeping, and incorrect, statements about most cops as a group. shocking. It’s becoming the norm taking these anecdotes and running with larger more sweeping narratives. This individual however, is a fool.
Yeah, this guy definitely seemed to have an inordinate fear of dogs. It wasn't even charging, when he shot-- the owner was trying to get hold of it, and the partner was right next to her, like you'd said, in the OP. Amazing, that someone who has presumably had some gun training, finds that to be an acceptable circumstance in which to be firing his weapon. Apparently, he believes he never misses? I only fault the partner for not telling him, especially if the shooter was the more junior officer (which I am only guessing), to stop shooting at the porch, while they were standing on it. And yes, gun fanatics, this is evidence that we can't assume that if everyone's allowed to carry a gun, they are pretty much all going to be responsible in their use of those weapons. If only a small percentage, act like this deputy, a lot of people will be indefensibly killed and wounded. This is why some regulation is necessary. Why needing to pass a test may not be an assurance, but it's better than taking no precautions at all.
Police officers are put into bad situations and facing danger daily. The vast majority of them handle it well and with a professional attitude. This guy, however, showed why he doesn't need to have a badge and a gun, not just because he discharged his weapon needlessly, but his attitude was awful, arguing with the woman after he had apparently caused some kind of injury. Maybe it was concrete shrapnel or bullet fragments that hit her, but he should have been a lot more understanding of the situation and seemed to be only interested in covering his butt. Hopefully fired, and hopefully there is a system in place that prevents him from just going to the next county and getting another job in law enforcement. Last I knew, that was way too easy for them to do. Most cops are good at their job. The few bad ones need to be weeded out ASAP. Update: did a little more research and there is indeed a bullet lodged in her shin, so there's little doubt as to what happened. It is also bothersome that the other officers tried to play it off as dog scratches. An ambulance should have been immediately called and I'm glad the other officer told the stupid one to go wait by the car.
I've been bitten by a Collie, a Beagle, a Pit Bull, and a Chihuahua, and the worse bite, by far, was from the Chihuahua. My mom works at a hospital, and the worse dog bite they had come in was from a woman whose hand was mangled by Chihuahuas. But if you have a gun, and you are being "threatened" by a little dog, don't immediately reach for the gun. For ****'s sake, just punt the thing back inside the house if that's what it requires. And definitely don't start shooting ANYTHING without knowing there's a safe backstop. And learn to ****ing deescalate.
Holly **** . . . he literally says, "I shot who? . . . I didn't shoot her! . . . Shiiiiit . . . I didn't shoot her . . . I shot the dog" and his partner tells the shot woman to calm down and tells her not to be scared. Jeezy Creezy.
