Ramaswamy is a ****ing brain dead idiot trying to be the “brown” Trump. DeSantis is absolute chicken **** because he couldn’t answer a single ****ing question. Christie is a male Karen. Nikki has bigger balls and brains than all the other idiots up there combined. Tim, Mike and Asa are brainless turds with zero charisma. The last dude only had one leg to stand on. I forget his name cause he was boring AF.
In Canada atm and missed the live broadcast. Been reading up on the highlights and am not impressed, nor did I expect to be. All a formality as I am pretty sure Trump is going to win the nomination anyway. I will probably vote for Chris Christie in the primaries as I can only stand with those that stand against Trump.
I couldn't stomach sitting through watching it on Fox, so I settled for the analysis on the other competitor channels. Ramaswamy is looking for Pence's old job, that was obvious. DeSantis was the official bobblehead. The only one that seemed the most "presidential" was Haley.
I watched the debate I kind of like ramaswamy. Pence Christie Haley and the other old dude I think Scott are all new cons and that party has died Trump killed it. A few festering remains of its corpse remains in Washington and probably will for quite some time. But the drama was all really caused by the oldies whining about the young whippersnappers. I would put just about any one of these guys in the office before Biden.
All debates are lame they're stupid they do nothing. People are typically decided who they're going to support before they even see debates and whoever they support they think that person one so there's not even any useful function to them anymore now that we've gotten the internet and telecommunications Maybe back in the early fifties and before they were useful but not now.
I don't have cable so I couldn't watch. I would have tuned in for the entertainment value, although that was going to be much less without Trump on stage. I hear that DeSantis flopped. Not unexpected, since being anti-woke and trying to outdo Trump is all he has. Plus, he has ZERO charisma.
Just watched a few highlights. Interesting how Haley called out the $7.8 trillion spending binge under Trump/Pence, when Pence was too weak to answer the question. While I don't think anyone can solve the public debt problem, at least she has the courage to say out loud that it is not only Dems to blame. Ron, on the other hand, just rattled off tired GOP/Trump talking points. Very weak. Vivek has some fire in him. Now, I don't like his policy positions, but at least he is energetic and can think on his feet, instead of giving boring, canned responses.
I thought Nikki had a good night, as did Christie and Pence (Pence was on and off). Vivek is a very good and confident speaker with energy & an easy smile, but his inexperience and naivete was exposed by Nikki and Pence when they talked about foreign policy. DeSantis was not able to speak on his feet, and instead offered rehearsed responses which did nothing to address the topic. The rest of the candidates are wasting their time. I wish Kasich, Romney and Cheney were in the mix. Overall winner: Nikki Haley
I didn’t watch it. It was meaningless to me. I watched my Braves beat the NY Mets. More important to me. When and until another candidate can get within 20-25 points of Trump or Trump falls below the 50% threshold, Trump is currently polling 55% of Republicans in their primaries. Why watch or care about it? The Democrats aren’t having any debates having already anointed Biden. What’s so important about debates anyway? I want more from a candidate other than being a good debater. As for stances on issues, I can go here. https://www.ontheissues.org/default.htm
This is true, but sometimes the debates can still be useful in forcing the candidates to take a stance. It was interesting that all (maybe aside from Asa) raised their hand when asked whether they would support Trump as the nominee, even if he was convicted of a crime. DeSantis looked again very weak raising his hand only after looking around to see what others did. Not the sign of a leader with convictions. This debate was not so much about picking a challenger for Trump, it was more about weeding out the ones without the guts. I think DeSantis will further sink in the polls after this performance.
When did a "debate" for a party's nomination ever have less significance? Inevitably, Trump won. He remains the odds-on favorite to be first runner-up in the 2024 presidential election, especially given that he he can't hide from juries of his peers as he will from contending candidates between now and the election. 2020, 2022 - The Magic Persists *Honorable Mention to Nikki Haley for not sporting a Trump suit.
I watched the entire debate. In one word it was, "rowdy". The crowd was too loud, the moderators lost control at times, and some of the candidates showed little manners. I don't think any one person won or lost. But I would hope we not elect a president based on who is the best debater. I was more interested in the records of the candidates than how they handled questions. But I did like the ones who at times gave short answers to questions. I thought the UFO subject was Loony Tunes. No one changed my mind. I was shaking my head at the candidates who at times sounded like all the other DC politicians. The one guy who I knew nothing about yet impressed me was Doug Burgum. I like the way Burgum handled himself and his record in North Dakota. I liked to hear some of the candidates who said we need to close our southern border and start becoming energy independent by digging coal and drilling for oil. I didn't like to hear a couple say we need to send more money to Ukraine. I'm still for DeSantis because of his record and successful programs in Florida. He has demonstrated he has the guts to finish draining the swamp. If we fail to do this our country will continue down a path of destruction.
Most people don't get their news from religious leaders, which is the context of the question. Here it's being twisted to say we don't trust our religious leaders when that isn't the case. Religious leaders don't usually get involved in politics and getting their clergy the news. But this is a great example as to why liberal news wasn't displayed because that's at an all time low when it comes to trust.
And then, there was, of course, inflation as the big GOP talking point that they use to hammer Biden. Haley promised to bring inflation down, but how? Which policies will achieve this, other than high interest rates, which is handled by the Fed, not the president? Also, inflation is already down to below 4%, how come nobody mentioned this? They all pretend to cut spending. Yet, they all know that spending cuts will impact economic growth. Will they be so stupid to force a recession through spending cuts when they are in office? Unlikely. Therefore, all the talk about inflation and bringing down spending is red meat to the base, nothing more. Someone needs to be truthful with the American people. Haley was a start, but not enough.
Dude, we are in the smoldering remains. One of the saddest videos I ever saw was a WWII veteran weeping at what America has become. He could not believe that he and his buddies fought and died for America to end up in the state it is in today. We aren't a country, we are an economic zone. No shared culture. No shared values. No shared myths. No great state has ever or can ever last without that. The present is a quasi-failed state and the future is a failed state. Hopefully a phoenix rises from the ashes but we certainly won't be alive to see it.
The SCARY part is that 42% of repubs (probably the Xtofascist mainly) actually DO get their news from their religious leaders. Note that the question was not about clergy but instead directed at those who ABUSE religion to further the Xtofascist AGENDA. So we agree that most clergy understand the concept of the Separation of Church and State however those who put themselves forward as "religious leaders" are MOTIVATED towards DESTROYING first amendment rights.
The interesting point not mentioned is that in the red state I live in, democrats are just as likely to be devout Christians as republicans. In fact, a church could lose its tax exempt status if it delves into politics.
