Opposition Leader Yair Lapid calls for an “emergency government” to manage “the difficult and complex operation ahead of us” after more than 100 Israelis have been killed, close to 1,000 wounded and an unknown number of soldiers and civilians abducted by Hamas terrorists into Gaza.

“The State of Israel is at war. It won’t be easy and it won’t be short. It has strategic consequences which we haven’t seen for many years. There is a serious risk that it will become a multi-front war,” Lapid says in an announcement.

“A short while ago, I met with Prime Minister Netanyahu. I told him that in this emergency situation I’m willing to put aside our differences and form an emergency, narrow, professional government with him to manage the difficult and complex operation ahead of us.”

Netanyahu, he says, “knows that with the current extreme and dysfunctional security cabinet, he can’t manage a war. Israel needs to be led by a professional, experienced, and responsible government. I have no doubt that former Defense Minister [Benny] Gantz would also join a government like this.”

“Forming an emergency professional government will make clear to our enemies that the vast majority of Israeli citizens stand behind the IDF and security forces. It will make clear to the world, in the international community, that the people of Israel stand united against this threat,” says Lapid.

“The State of Israel suffered a hard blow today. We are all hurting, we are all angry. However, wars and countries aren’t managed with pain and anger but with calm and a strategic understanding of the situation. We need to put politics to one side for the sake of an emergency government that will manage this situation with determination and won’t deal with anything else until we achieve victory over our enemies.”

What has the US done to cause this?

And what would be the motivation?

Good, then they all should be leaving real soon...up-up and away.
Though some kind of rapture with otherworldly galactic sources involved wouldn't surprise me yet these Christians who have been blindly supporting Israel for years won't get off that easy, imo.
They have an ulterior motive being Jesus is said to be returning there and from what they preach, their "God" knows their hearts.

 

All this actually sounds other worldly, an utterly impossible position for Israel to be in yet they are.

 

It's an assumption.
The motivation is obvious - to create general chaos wherever possible, and to look like the most prosperous country on the background of general chaos. Thereby attracting world capital to the "safe" harbor of the United States. And thus try to buy the impending crisis.
How they could do that, I don't know. I suppose they could finance the radicals, help with weapons and tactics, share intelligence, teach them how to use drones...etc. Nothing new, same thing the US has always done.
The Taliban is the brainchild of the US, Bin Laden and ISIS are the brainchild of the US, the Ukrainian fascists are again the brainchild of the US.

 

The US and Russia aren't the only countries that intervene by force in sovereign countries.

The same country that sent EFP's, militia, and terrorists to Iraq in 2003-present, (the EFP weapons, in hindsight, were a major contributing factor to the US loss because they significantly increased casualties, and support rapidly waned), is the same country that is sending its drones to reign terror on Ukrainian civilians (which they are currently in the process of upgrading them to quieter, faster jet engines, no doubt using what they have learned from their initial product's slaughter of innocent women and children), and it's the same country that has armed Hamas, and others, to ensure peace never occurs between Israel and Palestinians, and after decades, has put the most extreme Palestinians in a position to wake up this morning and fire thousands of rockets into Israel, instead of fading into a fringe group like the Westboro Baptist church.

For reasons inexplicable to me at the moment, my leaders treat this government with kid gloves, even when they were killing our own sons and daughters. I'm not calling for war, but to ignore the fact that Iran is acting as a chaos agent to exacerbate several major situations in the world (admittedly not the only chaos agent, AKA Nuland), even to the point of pretending a nuclear deal can be made with them without acknowledging these roles, could lead to war!

But I suspect they will do the same here, and ignore Iran's major contribution to the current dynamic.

2.3 International cooperation on anti-terrorism intelligence

Israel has long suffered the threat of terrorism due to its own historical and geographical factors. In order to improve this predicament, it has decided to adopt the form of international cooperation to achieve the goal of jointly preventing and eliminating terrorism. Israel proactively carried out anti-terrorism cooperation activities with the United States. They signed a series of anti-terrorism agreements, such as the "Military Information Comprehensive Security Agreement" and "Signals Intelligence Cooperation Guide" [9]. The United States has abundant intelligence resources and advanced technology, and Israel has long-term anti-terrorism experience. The two countries have established an antiterrorism intelligence sharing system, exchanged intelligence with each other, and held regular joint military intelligence meetings to form a win-win situation. In addition, Israel also cooperates with India on anti-terrorism. In 2000, the two countries established a joint anti-terrorism working group to analyze and share intelligence and make early warnings[10]. The two countries cooperate under the threat of terrorism, which has dramatically improved their national security and defense capabilities.

It was a minor scandal when the Snowden links showed that the UK had a program to do the same thing. I assume every major power does this.

I'm unclear on how cooperative the US and Israel are at the moment. We've been leaning towards Iran lately. But I still think if the US had any indications of a massive attack like this, they would have passed it on. So I'm thinking the US didn't have anything.

 

How could they ever get all that by Israel's intelligence?
It's way beyond befuddling though how Hamas pulled this off.
