This is one of the most hilarious things I've read today. New California law creates Ebony Alert to find missing Black youth and women CNN — A new California law will create an emergency alert system to help find missing Black youth and women between the ages of 12 and 25. California Gov. Gavin Newsom signed SB 673 into law Oct 8. The bill, which goes into effect January 1, will enable the California Highway Patrol to activate the new Ebony Alert upon request from local law enforcement when a Black youth or young Black woman is reported missing “under unexplained or suspicious circumstances,” is considered “at risk, developmentally disabled, or cognitively impaired” or has been abducted. “The Ebony Alert will ensure that vital resources and attention are given so we can bring home missing Black children and women in the same way we search for any missing child and missing person,” State Sen. Steven Bradford, a Democrat who sponsored the legislation said in a statement. If this becomes a trend, I feel sorry for the guy who is selected to come up with the name for an alert for Asian kids.
Prostitution is a vice that has never tempted me. Nevertheless, I suspect that there is more of a demand for white prostitutes than black prostitutes. If that is true, white under age girls are more likely to be kidnapped and groomed than black underage girls.
There's no need for this. If garbage people are going to ignore the problem of black women and children going missing when they are part of normal alerts, having a new special alert isn't going to change that. I'm not sure what the problem is, but I know for sure that it isn't because we didn't have the right alerts.
It looks like California has upped the game with "Feather Alert." Feather Alert The California Statewide Feather Alert Program was introduced through Assembly Bill 1314 and became law in 2022 by adding Section 8594.13 to the California Government Code. A Feather Alert is a resource available to law enforcement agencies investigating the suspicious or unexplainable disappearance of an indigenous woman or indigenous person. The Feather Alert will provide immediate information to the public to aid in the swift recovery of missing indigenous persons. What's it called for the other type of Indians?
It looks like Massachusetts is going to give it a try. Proposed ‘Ebony Alert' would highlight missing Black women and girls A new proposal on Beacon Hill hopes to create measures to protect Black women and girls in Massachusetts. Those legislative measures include establishing a permanent community-centered advisory committee on missing and murdered Black women and girls, and creating a notification system called "Ebony Alert" - similar to an Amber Alert, designed to notify the public when Black women and girls go missing under unexplained or suspicious circumstances. It’s something Audrey Morrissey, the co-executive director for My Life My Choice supports, stating that women of color are not given the same attention as their white counterparts when they are reported missing.
Whites give attention when white women are missing. It is the responsibility of blacks to give attention when black women are missing.
More pointless hand-wringing about things which happen in California. I don't lose sleep over laws passed in States 4000 miles away. If anything, the alert gives an immediate clue to what type of kid was gone missing. Other than that, it seems to be same as the existing Amber Alert.
