Many people live by stereotypes of past wars. One immediately thinks of the 2008-2009 Gaza massacre, Operation Cast Lead, when the IDF attempted to destroy Hamas' military infrastructure through not only bombing, but also a ground operation in Gaza. There was then also a blockade of the region.
The operation lasted more than three weeks, Israel certainly won, but can we talk about achieving the goal? Hamas has not gone anywhere, and most of those who died on the Palestinian side were civilians.
