I don't know. Especially because there is no such thing as race. I'm just illustrating a biased question that is typical of these tests. Point is that they were trying to discriminate who was admitted based on an IQ test. Which means that people who were denied admission into this university may have been more intelligent than others who were admitted. There is absolutely NO way of knowing.
Im not convinced its racial. Certainly there are problems with standardized testing. But it is worth noting that our education system in general and especially standardized testing was originally developed by the Prussians and is credited with being one of the primary means by which Fascism and Nazism was proliferated in Germany. So maybe there's something racial there. But generally I think this meme lays out the problem with standardized testing pretty well...
You are not of course the first person to mention that some people, whether through anxiety or some other reason, are not good test takers. So...if they are not good test takers, how are they going to pass tests in college, or perform tasks at their jobs? Being able to take tests is part of academia. If you are not good at that, you probably don't belong in academia.
It really depends on the test. I was failing US History until the teacher started allowing essay tests as an alternative to the multiple guess. I immediately went from an F to a B. Turns out I'm really good with concepts and general points, and really bad at remembering names and dates. I can tell you what happened with a high degree of accuracy, and if I only lose a few points for not getting the names right or being a year off of when it happened or not knowing what a piece of legislation was technically titled, I do fine. I was also the only person in my class who opted to take the essay tests instead of the multiple guess... but that simple option (and the teacher who was willing to do the extra work of actually grading a paper instead of using a machine!) probably made the difference between me being accepted to college or not.
Interesting, considering the most profitable skills iv learned came from non academia types that do their job exceptionally better than academia types. Your excuse causes me to exclaim...So what You didnt answer my question, whats wrong with personality type tests when an individual chooses to discover their talent and seek profit?
So, I know no one that uses a sauser when they have cup or glass of anything. So does that make me black and stupid. I guess Bill Maher is right!
An interesting anecdote, but I'm not sure how that applies to the issue of standardized testing. In other countries, their standardized testing are essays, depending on the subject, but that probably won't help in math.
I've never heard of giving a "personality" test to get into college. So I've no idea what you are talking about. Who substitutes academic standardized testing for "personality tests?"
I was failing until the testing was destandardized. The multiple guess was apparently sufficient for testing the knowledge and understanding of others in the class, but it wasn't an accurate way of testing my knowledge. It was an accurate way of determining whether I learned and retained the same information in the same way as everyone else. But I don't think that's what we should be testing for...
Standardized testing doesn't mean it has to be multiple guess. As I said, other countries lean more heavily on essays; it's the US that means more on multiple choice. But either way, it's still standardized testing. The OP seems to oppose the concept of testing as a means of admission altogether.
I've been telling you that the crime problem that we have now is a culture problem and you have stuck to you racism guns of blaming guns for the problem. Now you want to say there is a culture problem to which I say, yea, no duh.
Take the test yourself. It is not racist. No teacups in it. No saucers in it. Just shapes. Tell us your score when you complete it. (Screenshot or it never happened). https://www.mensa.org/public/mensa-iq-challenge
So, then there is no such thing as racism, ergo "systemic racism" is a non sequitur. Problem solved ; good work. To the absolute nth degree, correct. But few things are; the world operates on percentages and probabilities, and non-linear complexity.
Well if we can take multiple guess off the table, how about we just let people pay for the education they want after high school. Let capitalism sort it out. Was never a fan of all the obstacles in the way learning what i wanted to know. Who cares who else does it? Why is that relevant to anyone who isnt a sheep.
I could give you a public policy reason, but you don't strike me as the type who's interested in that. But I'm sure there are plenty of colleges that will not even require that you can fog a mirror as long as your check clears, so knock yourself out.
A racist TEST? I don't know what you're talking about. You don't know the difference between "biased" and "racist"?
Who says there is no such thing as racism? Of course there is. There is also such thing as "dyslexia". You might want to look up the symptoms.
