I know DeSantis has pretty much made a 180 degree turn on his culture wars. When he would insert 'woke' in every sentence, he is not avoiding the word like the plague. Its good he learned from his mistakes, but has the damage already been done? Many college age students seem to think so. Political Climate And Educational Policies May Lower Enrollment At Florida Colleges https://www.forbes.com/sites/luciel...rollment-at-florida-colleges/?sh=c1299ab42f6b Florida Governor Ron Desantis’ recent policies and legislation on higher education and other areas are likely to drive students away from Florida’s colleges and universities. According to a new poll by Intelligent one in eight high school seniors in Florida say they will not attend a public college in the State. The key finding include the following: Overall, 91% of prospective college students and 79% of current college students disagree with DeSantis’ policies 1 in 8 graduating high school students in Florida won’t attend a public college due to DeSantis’ education policies 78% of students surveyed who plan to attend a state school are worried the policies will have a negative impact on their education 1 in 20 current state college students plan to transfer because of DeSantis’ education policies 56% of surveyed current state college students are concerned the policies will negatively impact their on-going education.
Only 1 in 8? I thought there would be more politically woke students than that. Things are looking up for a change.
When 80-90% disagree with the policies, then maybe those policies are not very popular, but as I said it seems DeSantis might have learned his lesson. 1 in 8 means there will be 13% reduction in enrollments of Florida students. They have decided to not enroll in FL at all. That's not good no matter how you spin it.
Oh please. Not even close. lol The only percentages that crazy are voters on Biden policies. Funny how you failed to mention out of state students coming to Florida. As per usual, out of context claims by the lefts media nobody listens too anymore. More people are moving to Florida than any other state in the US. I guess you forgot that part as well. For someone you claim 90% disagree with, seems funny how his state has the most incoming citizens in the country. Somehow those two claims just don't jive.
It is not unusual for people on the left to suggest anything bad can happen with a republican governor. I wouldn't spend any time worrying about Florida colleges.
Its a study, not a suggestion, and nothing indicates its from someone "on the left". Colleges and universities make money, and when they start losing business, they tend to speak up, - and are expected to speak up. Why would you worry about anything other than your own wallet? Those people who are impacted by this worry about it.
If it blames the republican governor for college enrollments then it is from the left by definition. It is an opinion. Not much of a study.
Its a study conducted by Intelligent.com, and the students expressed their reasons. So, yes, its a study, and the results are what they are. You don't like the results, so you assume its some kind of "leftist" conspiracy to make your political leaders look bad. Not everyone agrees with the government creating laws to police morality and ban speech. They think its no business of the government. I get it that you prefer government more involved, but not everyone is on board with it. There IS a reason why DeSantis is tanking in the 2024 polls. People don't agree with his policies. He overplayed his culture war cars, and its telling that he suddenly stopped talking about it (he realized it was a mistake).
LOL. His policies backfired, and he is paying the price. It is what its is, and is not partisan to point it out, or to admit it, but it IS partisan to be offended when people point it out. Independents agree it backfired while only his party loyalists still defend them, even after DeSantis himself stopped.
So conservatives don’t want to go to liberal schools and liberals don’t want to go to…schools that are prevented from indoctrinating them into being more liberal. I think the only thing im supposed to have a problem with is there still aren’t any conservative colleges. Only liberal and those forced to be less liberal.
I did not know college education was supposed to be based on what’s “popular” with kids. The institutions I attended focused on expanding minds by exposure to new/unpopular ideas, not by catering to the preconceived notions and biases of students. Brave new world…
LOL. So you been told. So, wanting freedom of speech is a liberal thing, and opposing it is conservative.....listen to yourself. Liberal colleges...conservative colleges.......heh Propaganda war against higher education is alive and well. Younger people simply don't need a morality police, and that has always been the same. If you need such authority, then attend BYU. Its all you want, - no smoking or drinking of alcohol, coffee, or tea is permitted.
Colleges like Hillsdale could save our country, but I fear it's too late. America is circling the drain.
Yes. Get out while you still can. Not even the moral police can save you from destruction of your mind.
Looks like they will simply have less students, and those of us who understand business know that having less paying customers is not a good thing.
Paying customer = Right customer. If you filter out 91% of prospective customers, because you don't think they are "right" (because they disagree with the governor), then you dont know much about business. I get it that authoritarianism and moral policing is hip these days in the populist circles, but not everyone is on board, especially younger people who don't want the government policing morality.
