Very true, and that is how we have been losing wars since Vietnam. Somehow, we seem to convince ourselves "THIS time will be different." It never is. Somehow we get amnesia from one conflict to the next, and end up in yet another forever war. I fear we are about to wind up in yet another due to our leader's stupidity and choosing power over humanity.

It's not a Middle Eastern war that concerns me... It would be absolutely stupid, however, I feel that a Middle Eastern conflict is a mere domino that would be a tipping point for a conflict that would end the world as we know it.. Not speaking of world destruction, but a massive paradigm shift in world power.

You really cocked up that quote function. All fubar.

Anyways: We left Afghanistan over political considerations, we weren't defeated. We made the mistake in Afghan of occupying the place without an intent to make them a territory, and we did nothing to cure the culture of its predilection for corruption in military formations.
I'm not talking about that. I'm talking about using our intelligence gathering and naval and air superiority to **** all over anything that looks like a missile or a drone, every single time it pops up.
I'm also saying we should use our intelligence gathering to locate where these idiots live and bomb the **** out of it. Repeatedly. As many times as it takes.
No boots on the ground necessary really.

Houthi rebels ****ing with the boats are not all of Yemen. Nor did I say kill everyone, or kill innocent civilians.
You don't find innocent civilians ****ing with the boats by being at a terrorist training camp, or loading up a missile or a drone.

Pure sophistry. They started this war.

What you're doing is absolving them of their responsibility for starting this war and the consequences of starting it.

False equivalence, and the people who started this war don't give a damn about human life and material resources. They knew what they were dragging the Israeli and Palestinian people into and they don't care. In their minds and calculus, the more death and suffering the better.

uh huh... cause they would never be around civilians. How do you think guerillas operate? I was just going off of what you said in your comments.

Lol, this is what Israel WANTED to happen. Why do you think they green-lit Qatar to fund Hamas? This is the same conflict that has been going on for decades, before most people now fighting it were even alive. There was no "starting" of anything, at least not since 1948. This is just a new phase of an ongoing conflict.

If the 'civilians' are hanging around a terrorist training camp, or a missile emplacement, I don't think they're civilians.

Are people living near US military bases not civilians? Are they free game if anyone strikes us, not to be considered civilians? I imagine that the rebels are a pretty big economic driver for such a poor country, not to mention they all have families. So... another double standard?

It's not 'bullshit', we have to remember the ideology of the other side: They hate 'the West', absolutely despise us. They'd want nothing more than to reshape the map without the West in it, and Yemen is providing the perfect back drop. BTW, it also shows the failure of the Biden strike, as it did not put down the Houti rebels, instead they are now confirmed to be using tactical weapons against the US.

This war can only expand. Would Saudi Arabia remain true to the peace accords with Israel? Why should it? If they see an opportunity for the Muslim Empire, they'll take it.

And is Yemen worth the losses of gains in security for Israel and the Middle East? All we have to do to reopen trade routes is renounce our weird support for the non-democratic Yemeni government.

This war is brought to you by the stupid incompetent think tank of the Pentagon. Losing wars since 1965(Vietnam War onward)

The twin towers were full of people, killing them was the goal. Name me an attack by your heroes from the ME that was not intended to kill innocents?

Houthi attacks continue as US cargo ship hit in defiance of strikes on Yemen

That is because the strikes didn't take out the missile batteries due to incompetent leadership.

They started it, and we're involved in it...because? At least Vietnam, misguided as that was, was in cohesion with the French allies. What is THIS? What does the US actually stand to gain from this?

Nothing, there's nothing we can accomplish by backing Yemen and Saudi Arabia. And this isn't pro-Houti either, this is pro-stop getting us in this ****. No American should face a missile, let alone die in this middle eastern hell hole.

Why can't the US foreign policy make sense for US? Why do we always have to take on someone else's problem?

No, not the Pentagon. The incompetent think tank is in the White House as it was during the vietnam conflict. The Pentagon reports to the the White House.

I don't know why you'd think that I support attacks like 9/11 or October 7th. I do not, at all.
So, now you are linking 9-11 to the Houthis? That is exactly what got us into Iraq, for a bullshit war that did nothing but get a lot of my brothers in arms killed.
How is our support for the slaughter of civilians in Israel any different than Iran's support for attacks on US forces or civilians?
It is all wrong, on all sides, as I've said since the beginning of this nonsense. Two wrongs do not make a right.

I know, I know, you'll say "but...but...the Israelis are not targeting civilians...". Yeah, BS. If there are civilians present at the target, you don't drop the ****ing bomb. That was well understood when I was working with air support. If you suspect that there are civilians present, you are not going to use artillery or airstrikes. Our support for what Israel is doing is disgusting and un-American. We should have a little more pride in ourselves than support dirtbags.
If Israel strengthened their borders to prevent future attacks, and hunted Hamas in a fashion that did not level all of Gaza, they would have my full support. I frankly do not blame the Houthis for supporting Palestine. I see it as no different at all than our supporting Kuwait in Desert Storm.

I see all people as the same. Every one capable of good or evil, whether they are Americans, Israelis, or "terrorists" as we like to label our opponents. I judge each faction on their actions, not my affiliation to them. If America is pulling some dishonorable BS, I'll call them out. Same for Iran, or the Houthis. Iran's leadership is full of scumbags as well, and they are instigating a lot of this BS, as are we with our support of Israel. I see very little difference between any of them.

And what war is that? The only 2 primary wars at this point are Ukraine/Russia and Israel/Citizens of Gaza (and Hamas somedays too) - Notice the US is not listed as an active participant in either...

    Don't be ridiculous, Josh.

For a number of reasons, but not to finance the October 7 massacre and current war.

Yes, and this current war or "phase" is already being referred to as the Israel-Hamas War, just as the previous wars or "phases" were referred to as wars, e.g., the 1948 Arab-Israeli War, 1967 Six-Day War, 1972 Yom Kippur War and the previous Gaza War that took place 15 years ago. However, regardless of the fact that the inhabitants of that region have been fighting over that patch of dirt for centuries, the fact remains that Iran and its proxies are responsible for starting the current war, and it is a war, and the consequences of starting it. As I stated earlier, they knew what they were doing, they knew what they were dragging the Palestinian and Israeli people into, they knew full well that thousands of innocent people would get killed on both sides, and they don't care. Their wanton disregard for human life is part and parcel of their strategy.

Yet, many of Yemen cities across the country resemble that of Gaza over the last 10 years, with US weapons decimating and killing innocent civilians. Estimates state that nearly 400,000 civilians have been killed in Yemen during the US proxy war.

Near a base? No. ON it? If the base gets struck, base housing is likely to get struck.
This is why we don't bring camp followers into warzones.

O gee the terrorists attacking random shipping are a pretty big economic driver!!! Wow!!! Guess we shouldn't bomb them then. Guess that means people giving them material aid and support aren't part of the issue. O wait..... that's not how that works.

Dude I can't help it if a nations actual legitimate government gets rebelled against and has to bomb the people attacking it. You DO realize the Houthi are not the legitimate government of Yemen and the 'proxy war' you're describing is something the Saudi's did on their own? You DO understand that the Saudi are not the US nor a 'puppet government' such that they could be considered a proxy?

Lo do ye **** around, lo do ye find out.

All to do with a destabilized region... all brought to you by the West. The recent start was the Arab spring, and has kept the region destabilized every since!

Regarding Saudi's own actions... I say bullshit! the US has been arming Saudi Arabia and directing them for years, and just recently signed a new MASSIVE arms deal with them. Yemen is nothing more than a proxy war, and to think otherwise is just painting a false narrative of reality.

Again.. I could care less what they do to each other.. but the more we dabble and cause chaos in the region, the more they will want to kill our civilians. They chant "Death to America", not because of our direct actions.. but from our abundant indirect actions.

Because the current administration and its previous incarnation appeased and emboldened the "Death to America!" crowd in Tehran. The Biden Admin has no more deterrent effect on the bad actors in the world than Chamberlain & Co. had during the late 1930s. Weakness begets aggression.

I get that your questions are rhetorical, but my answer is the refusal on many people's parts, both here and abroad, to accept that the bipolar power dynamics of the Cold War era should have ended years ago. Our allies have grown soft, complacent and socialist during the Pax Americana, and they don't want to give all that up to assume their proper place in a multipolar world where the United States won't be expending its own blood and treasure for them. And then there are the people here in America on both sides of the aisle, who can't let go of the role the U.S. played in the aftermath of WWII because they enjoy the power and prestige that comes with being a global superpower.

Believe me, I hear ya, man. I wish our country would return to what it was prior to the Roosevelt and Wilson Administrations. My family members have fought in other people's wars and guarded their countries for over a century, and one of them is buried at Arlington National Cemetery and another at Zachary Taylor National Cemetery. The world has changed, and it's about time America and its allies changed with it.
