The story below involves a young man who has lost his mind over right wing nonsense, but this type of thing can play out for anyone left or right. We've got folks on both sides so invested in the terminally online bullshit stories that they are committing violence over it and feeling justified. Granted, I'm sure there's a mental health issue involved here as well, but all of the narratives, hyperbole, exaggeration, and outright propaganda and paranoia can lead even a sane impressionable person to do things they never thought they would. We should expect to see this kind of thing more and more from both sides, or any side really. As people slowly lose their grip on reality because they feed themselves a steady diet of online nonsense, bullshit narratives, and hero fantasies, this kind of act will become as commonplace as school shootings.
There are many people out there who don't know how to digest social media. This forum is the only one I pay attention to, but even then I have to take all I read here with a grain of salt. (old saying for you younguns!) If someone is getting emotionally upset by anything on social media, STOP PAYING ATTENTION TO IT! I have had several conversations with a few of my adult children about this, but it seems hard for them to just stop looking at it. My theory is that the population, as a whole, wasn't quite ready for the internet. It's an extended form of psychosis if someone can't keep it in it's place.
Something tells me this killing was more about his father and less about federal employees in general. I'd guess that the fact his father was a strong Democrat supporter and a federal employee was actually only a more minor factor in the killing. But after he committed the murder, he just used that as a pretext to make his political message. This goes without saying, but usually people who commit an act of terrorism don't just target their own family members to make their political statement. There was obviously another dynamic going on, and he harbored plenty of hate against his father. The political reasoning was just used as an additional excuse in his psyche to build up the courage and finally do it. And we don't have to guess that likely large amounts of alcohol, drugs, and/or severe mental illness was likely involved.
According to the article, Mohn also accused the government of "allowing him to borrow money to attend college without advising him he may not find satisfactory work as an overeducated white man almost 10 years later." So that looks like another motivating factor here. old thread about that Student Loan Program ruining people's lives
Now seriously Moolk, you have to admit that Trump has a very large part in the public discourse we are currently experiencing. The man verifiably lied daily when he was POTUS. He was probably the most divisive POTUS in american history. The Media counted the VERIFIED lies as POTUS at 30,573. And sadly, most of the Trump supporters ate them up, and to this day still try with all of their being to make them true. We can blame Trump, or we can blame those who just didnt care that they were lies, and they cared more about confirmation bias. Im an old man, and I can tell you that in my lifetime, I have never seen a more fact-less electorate EVER.
His part is far less than that of Democrats. It was democrats whom have spent more than 2 decades referring to your average conservative as racists and nazi's. You have no evidence Trump lied daily when POTUS, the study you are referring to has already been debunked though it isn't surprising that a mathematically impossible claim is believed by most dems. They were not counted nor verified, they were estimated and most of what was used to estimate was subjective opinion that cannot even be called a lie. They assumed he didnt actually hold that opinion and called it a lie and then estimated that he was lying off camera behind closed doors. So once again, as usual, you are objectively incorrect. Its unfortunate people can be so easily fooled to believe such mathematical impossibilies as he never had enough air time to say that many lies, and ofcourse if it wasnt on air...then it isn't verifiable at all. Yet most dems ate that propaganda up. We can blame dems, and those who just dont care about the lies about Trump...as they care more about confirmation bias. I can tell you are older, and your anecdote aside nothing about your opinions about Trump make any sense.
Well you would be wrong: https://www.washingtonpost.com/grap...laims-database/?itid=lk_interstitial_manual_9 Thats a link tot he actual database, and the notes/verification of the lies..
He's right wing? Nice! Why is it nice? Because we don't have to wait for the information! Its already all released within days! At least we know that news of right wingers going off the deep end won't be concealed from us by DIRTY JOE'S DIRTY DOJ
