I think that there are darn few people in the U.S. population who think Putin is right or just. The question is, what is the best way to go forward?

Very few people on my side trust Joe Biden or think that he was brains enough to run anything, including a hotdog stand. We have no confidence that Biden will look out for our interests. Afghanistan proved that. He is ethically compromised, and he is unable to present any cogent arguments because he is mentally impaired. Therefore there is skepticism about our Ukrainian involvement.

 

Show me the public opinion polls which prove this.

If you are referring to the Time Magazine “Person of the Year,” that is given out to the most notable individual, not the most virtuous. Hitler was a mover and a shaker and not for good causes. But he was notable and news worthy.

 

The media accounts I have read on Carlson's gift to Putin by giving him the opportunity to explain his rational for invading Ukraine is that it was a missed opportunity for Vlad.

 

Well, he made some popular things happen to gain the popular support, - like enact a massive infrastructure project the "Autobahn" which put millions of people to work AND he ordered a production of a cheap car which even the middle class can afford and enjoy the new roads, - the Volkswagen aka The People's Car.

 

Putin's goal is to eliminate support for Ukraine to make it easier to conquer, not to win a popularity contest. So anything that makes Ukraine look bad, or makes it seem like it's an internal Russian matter that other countries should not think about, is a win for him. Trumpers are his natural allies for a few reasons. First, the Trump form of republican is relatively isolationist, and Putin wants America to stand back while he restores Russian glory conquering former parts of it. Second, he's socially conservative. Third, Trump admires dictators who can do things he wishes he could do and so they get along well and bond over things like hatred of journalists.

 

Nothing wrong with anyone interviewing Putin. Kind of pointless though.

Putin won't say anything except what he wants made public. It doesn't have to be truthful even. Just made public.

Sounds reasonable. I assume he is trying to humanize himself. I am not a fan of Putin or Tucker, but I see nothing wrong with an interview. I would feel the same way if a leftie did it.

I have no idea what you're saying, or what you think I was saying. But I was saying what Putin's goals were in being interviewed by Tucker. Why would Putin go into depth on Russian history? He's trying to make the case that this is an internal Russian matter and the west shouldn't be interfering. He's making this case to Tucker's viewers, Trump supporters who are more receptive to the idea of America not interfering in Ukraine.

Perhaps you're saying he failed in his aims? Probably. I'm not sure what gave you the idea I thought anybody was impressed.
