Sen Lankford (R-OK) Mouths "that's true" about BiPartisan Senate Border Bill

Senator Lankford very distinctly mouths the words "That's True" during President Biden's State of the Union address. The camera moves in on Lankford twice, and on the second instance you'll see his agreement with Biden, as Joe talked about the toughness of the bill on illegal immigrants.

Recall that Trump, for all practical purposes, killed this bill. Weeks prior, he had told Lankford that if you bring forth this bill in an election year, he would "destroy" him. Lankford later reiterated the "destroy" comment on the Senate floor, and stated that Trump (not using his name) followed through on that.

 

Really plays out just like Nixon sabotaging the peace talks during Vietnam so as not to have any resolutions to the conflict before the election.

 

Biden can talk jive and the lawnchair from Oklahoma can play bobblehead all they want, but if the bill secured the border instead of handing taxpayers the tab for the Demokrats' open border recklessness it would have passed.

So, stop your whining and put your money where your mouths are Dems. You wanted this, you can pay for it - cut a check to the treasurer of the sanctuary state/county/city of your choice today.

 

All of a sudden one of the most staunch Conservatives in the Senate is "a lawnchair"?. The MAGA wing is comprehensively distancing itself from all other Republicans rapidly.

Didn't his own state GOP censure him for it? Seems like Jim rode off the "progressive" rails on this one, which I found quite surprising.

The "MAGA wing" did their constituents and taxpayers all across the country a favor there, but don't let that stop you or anyone else from cutting a check to the treasurer of the sanctuary state/county/city of your choice.

 

Lankford, at the behest of the House, after Johnson was loaned the gavel, reached across the aisle and came up with a immigration/migration deal that would pass both the House and Senate AND, when Trump found out about it, he told all the MAGA in Congress to kill it because he did not want it to look like Biden got a win but more importantly, it would take away the migrant crisis cudgel that they could fund raise off of as well as rile up the sycophantic base over. So, once again, the Trump Party put politics over country.....something is seriously wrong with that mindset. It's shooting yourself in the foot or higher just for "one con man" desperate to stay out of jail.

 

Here's the transcript of the Biden statements to which Lankford said "That's true". Sounds like some fairly comprehensive Border Security measures to me.

That bipartisan deal would hire 1,500 more border security agents and officers.

100 more immigration judges to help tackle a backload of 2 million cases.

4,300 more asylum officers and new policies so they can resolve cases in 6 months instead of 6 years.

100 more high-tech drug detection machines to significantly increase the ability to screen and stop vehicles from smuggling fentanyl into America.

This bill would save lives and bring order to the border.

 

They all know that this is 100% true. Yet, they'll still deny it up to their death bed.

 

Yes, it could be that Trump shot himself in the foot with this one. Had he not interfered, and this bill passed, he could have still used his "advantage on the border issues" narrative. The first failures, and there would have undoubtedly been more issues, and he could have blamed "Biden's ineffective bill". He has now opened up this issue, through his interference, where it could actually work in the Dem's favor.

 

It's all about the election for Trump. He's desperate.

None of which stops the flood of migrants across the border, which is something Biden can do with a stroke of a pen...or 64 strokes of a pen, if Mike Johnson's math is correct.

Perhaps, the most interesting thing involving last night's speech were the rumors that Biden might do just that in order to shore up his sagging approval numbers - especially on the issue of the border - and help get the funding to Ukraine and Israel approved. Obviously, none of that happened, so everything remains status quo ante. That was another thing that surprised me, and I bet it came as an unpleasant surprise to many Democratic mayors, as well.

I'm sure you haven't, and the House passed a bill (H.R. 2) that met its conditions nine months ago, not to mention the fact that Biden could unilaterally meet many of those conditions by rescinding the EOs that enabled the record flood of migrants into this country since he took office.

But let's cut to the chase. What Democrats really want is the money to pay for their open borders recklessness, so put your money where your mouth is, open your checkbook and support the policy you voted for. Your orange bête noire can't stop you.

 

I always love immigration arguments. The border has been a problem for 30 years. Trump had an answer - he publically called Haiti a "shithole". I'll bet a lot Latin Americans cancelled their migrations after they heard that, and decided to wait for the next guy.

All this said, the topic of this thread is Senator Lankford and his reaction to Biden's State of the Union comments.

 

Just for the sake of accuracy, I would put it as Nixon trying to sabotage the peace talks. If you read the accounts of the Sth Vietnamese leadership (I have read several) they make it clear that nothing he said made a difference. They were going to kill the talks anyway because they thought they were going to get a crap deal & hoped they would do better if Nixon won (they already knew him before he ran for President).

That doesn't make what Nixon did less bad, but it does make it less successful. The talks were doomed if he had done nothing.

 

Trump and Nixon are often compared. Nixon was more of a seasoned politician than Trump. Both got caught with their hands in the cookie jar. Trump has more of the gangster background and demeanor.

The Stepford Wife who gave the reply speech trashed Lankford’s bipartisan border bill, describing it as a disaster…yet she was one of the people instrumental in drafting it…!!

Until she received her marching orders from her hollow husk of a hero to drop it, of course…

The border is literally the only thing the republicans have right now that gets them votes. They know this, and if they solve the crises they loose in the next elections.

The last bill they voted on gave them literally everything they asked for, so why didn't they vote for it ?

 

So why would vote to keep this “recklessness” when they, and anyone with half a brain knows, that this issue is killing the dems right now. WHY would they do that to themselves ?
