Non-reporting is a major form of media bias. These outlets conveniently choose to avoid any mention of January 6th, one of the most important dates in the history of this country. It's sad to see so many Americans living in a bubble of ignorance.

1-6 is ancient history to most Americans. Much like the Minneapolis riots, most have forgotten both outside of avid political junkies and the highly partisans. Most put their own personal situation today ahead of what happened on 1-6 when it comes to deciding who to vote for. Although memories may return if the 1-6 trial happens prior to the election.

The problem as I see it is the democratic party’s choice of Biden is as unliked and unwanted as the GOP choice of Trump by most Americans. Most Americans think they’re worse off today than they were 4 years ago. That inflation, rising prices and illegal immigration as issues has supplanted 1-6 in their minds. It’s the cost of food, housing, healthcare, taking care of family that has become much more important than what happened on 1-6. Which in my opinion, is understandable.

As for the media, most Americans consider them bias. You have this:

56% of Americans agree with the statement that "Journalists and reporters are purposely trying to mislead people by saying things they know are false or gross exaggerations."

58% think that "most news organizations are more concerned with supporting an ideology or political position than with informing the public."

Only 32% of all Americans have a great deal or fair amount of trust in the media to report the news fairly, accurately and fully. The rest fall into not very much 29% and none at all, 39%.

FoxNews has become a propaganda wing of the Republican Party, MSNBC and CNN propaganda wings of the Democratic Party.

I watch ABC, DWNEWS, CNN, FOX, PBS, the HILL, and MSNBC. None are as bad as FOX and Newsmax. The others often air coverage of items that aren't so popular with Biden.

The Trump goons' unprecedented, violent attack on the United States Congress was an attempt to overthrow a certified democratic election.
Prosecutors have suggested that a total of 2,000 - 2,500 people could ultimately face indictment for their roles in the attack.

It's important to note that, regardless of partisan spin, justice is still being served:

Leo Brent Bozell IV was among the first rioters to enter the Capitol

No doubt. But that doesn’t take away that 1-6 has outlived its usefulness as a campaign issue for 2024. That it might as well taken place in the 1800’s than 3 ½ years ago as to its influence on this year’s election. This was my point. Most Americans have very short memories. I would say for any event to have sticking or staying power to influence an election it must happen close to the election or it’s replaced by something else and thus becomes ancient history to most. A forgotten issue or event. Taking a stab, within 3 months or so.

As for the media, I think most recognize that they aren’t getting the full, accurate, fair news today from most news outlets. Few trusts their news source to do that. That most news outlets are owned by corporations whose primary and perhaps only goal is to make money, not to give the news in a fair, accurate and full manner. Again, most go to news outlets report their news with the proper political bias, slant that their viewers want. Hence you have liberals flocking to MSNBC and conservatives to FoxNews as an example. Both are derided by the political partisans of the other side or political philosophy as nothing more than propaganda wings of the Democratic and Republican Parties. But that is where the money is, providing the news, service in the manner with proper political lean, slant, bias that keeps your viewership happy and coming back.

For me, January 6, 2021 remains eminently relevant. Prosecutions and convictions continue, and the lie that rejects the will of the People persists. Our justice system as well as our democracy is under assault because of that lie that triggered January 6. Despite the legitimacy of the election, as all recounts, audits, investigations and court challenges have affirmed that legitimacy, a liar still lies, and a cult still swallows the lie.

That rejection of truth constitutes a current existential danger for the United States that renders partisan policy differences of minor significance.

1-6 certainly does for all the anti-Trumpers or the partisan democrats. Which make up what percentage of the total American electorate? From studying polls, I’d say the pro Trump and anti-Trumpers are about even. Roughly 35% each. Which means simply 65% of all Americans have forgotten 1-6 or placed it in the ancient history category. A non-issue for this upcoming election whether one likes it or not.

For myself, 1-6 is a non-issue. It falls into the riot category like Minneapolis and Portland which this particular riot happened in Washington D.C. I have my own reasons for disliking Trump. I never voted for him and never would. For me, 1-6 doesn’t come into play. Nevertheless, one could describe me as being anti-Trump. Other issues, events, happenings etc. have long replaced 1-6. I’m one of those who places 1-6 into the ancient history category, perhaps not even making the history books.

I look at this upcoming election as between three groups. 1 Those pro Trump, anti-Biden, 2 Those anti-Trump, pro-Biden, 3 those against or anti both Trump and Biden. Pew Research sums this up or places them into these 3 categories: Those who view Trump favorably, not Biden 37%, those who view Biden favorably, not Trump 34%, those who view neither favorably, view both unfavorably 26%. It's this last 26% that will decide this election, not pro or anti Trumpers.

In terms of a threat to democracy itself, a direct violent attack intended to nullify a certified election, January 6 defies attempts to contrive anything comparable by members of either party.

No other politician of either party incited anything remotely approximating January 6. No politician of either party incited riots in Minneapolis, Portland, or anywhere else. Only one lying politician attempted to overthrow a certified democratic election because he lost, and still cannot handle the truth.

The lie that triggered January 6 still festers, and the goons who attacked Congress on January 6 are standing back and standing by, ready to attack police and Congress again if the American electorate does not vote according to their demands.

Should more be cognizant of such a threat to democracy? Undoubtedly.

What should be and what is can be entirely different things. There’s no denying that most Americans have placed 1-6 into the either forgotten or ancient history column. Even after 1-6 happened, the country was split on it as either an attempt to overthrow democracy or as a plain old-fashioned riot. Few paid any attention to the House’s 1-6 hearings and if posts on this site was any example, those paying attention were mostly democrats. Of course, there are very few independents or swing voters here outside of myself.

I think you can tell how much importance Americans are placing on 1-6 by just looking at the polls which have Trump leading Biden. https://www.realclearpolling.com/po...24/trump-vs-biden-vs-kennedy-vs-west-vs-stein

Different issues and events since 1-6 have replaced it. As a campaign issues go, 1-6 is dead. Which reminds me of a CBS poll, to the question of Democracy and the rule of law will be safe – 34% only if Biden wins, 33% only if Trump wins, 13% if either one wins, 20% won’t be safe either way or it doesn’t matter who wins, democracy and the rule of law is kaput.

    https://www.cbsnews.com/news/poll-trump-leads-biden-economy/

No doubt 1-6 is still very important to democrats and Biden supporters. But not so with the rest of America. You and most democrats are going to vote for Biden anyway regardless of 1-6. Most republicans will vote for Trump regardless of 1-6. Independents are fairly split on who to vote for or if they will vote at all or vote third party since they don’t like and don’t want neither Trump nor Biden as their next president. Again, regardless of 1-6. Independents currently in a 34-28 Trump over Biden with the rest in either the vote third party, will not vote or not sure. 1-6 is meaningless to them. The most important issues in deciding who to vote for, 35% Economy, inflation, rising prices, 10% immigration, 10% healthcare, the rest are all in single digits.

I respect truth over perception, and believe that the vast majority of Americans, regardless of partisan affiliation, would agree.

One is confirmed by a preponderance of objective evidence, the other contrived by subjective media spin.

I hope that, in the coming months, more Americans are reminded of the inherent anti-Americanism of a violent attack on Congress in an unprecedented attempt to thwart the expressed will of the People.

I expect that reproductive freedom will be a determining factor for most American women in November's election.

I have no idea who will win, but I know who will rage again in his contempt for democracy if he loses.

As to abortion, I believe that over the last 50 years or so, those who are pro-choice became democrats and those who are pro-life became republicans. That abortion is already baked into the equation. Looking back on the midterms, on the day after the SCOTUS overturned Roe in June 2022, the GOP had a 2.6-point lead in the generic congressional poll, 44.4 to 41.8. The Republicans won the congressional vote 50.6 to 47.8 a 2.8-point spread. With all the hoopla surrounding abortion, there wasn’t any significant change. Even those who were undecided back in June split evenly among the parties. I do think the abortion issue is a very hot issue among democrats, but since those who think this way in my opinion have already become democrats, vote that way, abortion isn’t an election decider.

The truth be told, elections are always about perceptions. Public perceptions of the candidates, the political parties, the hot issues at the time, are this country’s problems being handled correctly or not, are they even being tried to be solved, etc. Very few voters will do any research to try to cypher through all the bull being hurled at them during an election campaign. Republicans and Democrats don’t have to do any research, they’re going to vote for their party’s candidates regardless of who they are. That’s called party loyalty. Independents, most don’t pay much if any attention to politics until an election nears. Half of them won’t even both to vote. But perceptions drive politics and elections along with whether these swing voter like or dislike the candidates.

I accept the popular reaction to the assault upon a half-century of reproductive freedom as expressed in referenda in both red and blue states, and anticipate its being a major issue for women in November.

During the November 2022 midterms, voters added protection for the right to get an abortion to constitutions in California, Vermont and Michigan. Kentucky voters were asked a reverse version of this question – whether the state constitution should bar abortions. They said no.

Kentucky’s vote is similar to an
August 2022 referendum on abortion that was held in Kansas. Fifty-nine percent of people in Kansas – a state with a history of anti-abortion policies and activism – voted to keep state constitutional protection of abortion rights.

    A
September 2022 poll demonstrated that 65% of those Americans surveyed believe Roe’s demise is a “major loss of rights.” That outcome aligns with polling that shows that, in a variety of conservative states, a majority of voters want some or most abortions to remain legal.

When Bible-thumping evangelicals were rapturous over a media entertainer who brayed that his celebrity licensed him to grab women by their private parts, I realized that expectations based upon reasonable presumptions were no longer applicable, but I still have faith in the capacity of some percentage of the electorate to distinguish between a sexual abuser/business fraud facing 91 criminal indictments based upon substantive evidence and sworn testimony vs. a mediocre and uninspiring President who has been the target of failed attempts, based upon Russian propaganda. that promoted the contradictory image of a senile criminal mastermind.
