WASHINGTON, April 9 (Reuters) - President Joe Biden said in an interview broadcast on Tuesday that he and his administration are trying to determine whether he has the authority to act on his own to shut down the U.S.'s southern border with Mexico to migrants, should it be deemed necessary. Biden told Univision in the interview that because bipartisan legislation that would have granted him the authority to shut the border was stalled by Republicans in Congress, he was being encouraged to try to do it alone. --- I can't stop laughing. Must be getting close to the election.
Biden has the authority to undo everything he did to open the border, libs will never come face to face with that and blame the GOP.
That IS nonsense. Or course he CAN'T! In fact, I don't think he can do that even with legislation. MAYBE during certain types of emergency like... a pandemic. But it would be a violation of international law to maintain it after the emergency has ended. I think he means LIMIT the number of immigrants. The way it was in the bi-partisan Senate bill. Even THAT might be a bit "shady" but... it's worth consulting....
Yeah, Trump whined to the Trump House crazies because he wanted a Campaign Cudgel, the Trump House killed it and Moscow Mitch buried it. Party over country, the Trump/MAGA Mantra.
This is a false argument and is debatable. The real argument is if this is a serious problem for House Republicans what are they willing to do about it. The answer to date is nothing. They only thing they have been willing to do is stop any changes to the current situation. Ask yourself why that is.
I'm afraid it is nearly impossible to take border concerns from the Right at this point. 'Closing the border' is now just a talking point. But using it now is ridiculous. At least to anyone paying attention.
Long before there was a senate illegal alien bill there was HR2 which a lot of democrats voted for. It was sent to Schumer who let it die. Why?
It was not bipartisan nor as strong as the bill Lankford put together in the Senate. IOWs it would never have passed at Senate level. BTW, genius, the bipartisan bill was at the request of the House before the Christmas break. Trump killed it to have an election issue and all MAGA fell in line, Party over Country, MAGA MOTTO. Oh and Joe Biden sent an immigration bill to Congress in his first week of office since we are looking backwards......hello.
My suspicion is that some kind of emergency is required for the president to act unilaterally. He's not quite as willing to blatantly lie to assert a fake emergency like Trump, so he's seeing if he has the authority given the actual, non-crisis, situation.
He's a joke, alright. Traitor Joe knew his powers when he issued the dozens of EOs that enabled Undocumented Demokrats to flood into our country. It takes a special type of dishonesty and/or credulity to believe his lie.
They may be doing nothing, but Biden is putting out a huge "Welcome" sign. It the invasion continues then at some point a catastrophe will happen in the USA.
I'm assuming you're referring to some of this (covers his early actions on immigration): President Biden’s Executive Actions on Immigration (cmsny.org) The only thing that seems significant at all was raising the refugee cap from 15,000 to 125,000. Though to me, 15k just seems laughably low. Like, keep America white low. Or are you talking about some later action?
Because Demokrats want to flood the country with migrants. It's all about the only thing Biden, Schumer & Co. care about - power.
This is another falsehood. He has not put out a welcome sign. He backed a proposal. The Republicans killed the proposal withoput debate or even a vote. The Republicans have offered no counter proposal, have announced no plan to deal with the problem. You can't have it both ways-reject all proposals then blame someone for not solving the problem if you are unwilling to try to do so. The Republicans have announced to those wishing to cross the border that the border will be open until 2025.
Many legal scholars disagree with your analysis. However, let us assume your argument has merit. If all it requires is for the House to say go ahead and that would solve the problem why won't they humor him and just do it.
Your definition of bipartisan must be different than what the rest of the country defines it as. Nearly 40 democrats voted for HR2, how many GOPers voted for the senate monstrosity?
It never made it to a vote genius, the leader of MAGA, put his personal election interest over country from the time he realized that the Senate would pass it, remember it was requested by the House in Nov. MAGA = Trump over COUNTRY
The house bipartisanly approved of HR2 last May and sent it to Schumer who did nothing with it. How many times does this need to be said?
I'm talking about the 64 EOs Biden issued, most notably the "Remain in Mexico" policy he unilaterally ended. The White House is fully aware of its powers, and if Biden wanted to rescind those EOs he would have done so by now and could do so this afternoon.
Joe will do something after three years of misdeeds. Stupid people will think he cares about the border. The rest of us will not be fooled.
Who are these legal scholars who would have us believe that a president can't rescind his own EOs? Biden took unilateral action to flood the country with migrants and he can take unilateral action to stop the flood. This doesn't require any action on the part of the House at all.
