As a Catholic who is also a conservative Republican, I have watched in disgust for many years as the bishops of my Church get in bed with liberal Democrats, ignoring their pro-abortion policies in the name of "social justice."

So it is with great joy that I see the Catholic bishops have finally woken up to the reality that liberalism and the Democrat party are the enemies of the Catholic Church.

This is the kind of united action I have never seen before. If the bishops had been so active in opposing abortion, Roe v. Wade might have been reversed years ago.

But the Catholic leadership is only protecting itself. They are saying nothing about the millions of lay Catholics who will ALSO have to pay for birth control and abortifacients through their health care insurance.

I think we need to expand this battle so that ALL people who have a conscience objection to this mandate should be exempt, not just religious organizations. That would incude ME. I do not want to pay so that women can pop a pill that aborts their baby.

Obama knows that the Supreme Court is perfectly 9-0 clear on this issue. Its a no win for him and for a Constitutional scholar it speaks volumes about his oath of office.

I can tell by the many threads created on this same subject that the right-wing trolls are trying to convince themselves and everyone else that they didn't get played.

Big birth control backing in Fox News poll

The Fox News Channel has featured a stream of right-thinking pundits blasting the Obama administration for infringing on “religious liberty,” but Fox’s own national poll finds top-heavy public support for offering birth control coverage in health plans.

By a 61-34 percent margin, those surveyed this week approve of the Obama administration requiring all employee health plans to provide birth control coverage as part of health care for women.

Sixty-seven percent of women surveyed, and 65 percent of Catholic women, supported the contraception/birth control requirement. Fifty-three percent of men surveyed endorsed birth control coverage.

Even the democrats have to admit he stepped into it on this issue. The Catholic Church is a powerful enemy to make and they have the wind in their sails at the moment.

Yes quite a few, i'm in college lol. My point was that whether you agree with Obama or not, he certainly did not handle this well at all. Far too much negative press for him on only one issue.

The Catholic Church is the ultimate super-pac if you (*)(*)(*)(*) them off.

I had to stop reading the article after this paragraph.

Since when is giving someone something they want assaulting someone's core beliefs? This isn't serious is it? Is this from the Onion?

Obama gets negative press no matter what he does.

This was well-timed and obviously pre-calculated. This was setting up a social issue against the right and it worked. It's not over by a long shot. This will continue and it will weigh on the minds of women everywhere right up until it is time to vote.

So what? I guess the 1st Amendment applies unless a poll says otherwise? As I said before, the Supreme Court has been perfectly 9-0 clear on this matter. On the other hand, youve just nailed the classic liberal argument. The Consitution doesent matter when it gets in the way of "progress."

So it is irrelevant to you that Obama is pissing all over the Constitution?

You are really far behind on this issue. He's not. Personally, I think that no compromise should be made for this public health concern issue but a compromise has been offered to religious organizations more worried about a relatively modern decision by the Church to hate birth control.

Again, if you want to bow down to the leader of a foreign country, feel free to move to the Vatican.

Then you can "kiss" the Pople's "ring" all you want.

There are churches who are willing to marry same-sex couples.

So do you support a law that makes same-sex marriage legal nationwide?

There are religious organizations who feel that marrying a 12 year old girl is perfectly acceptable.

Are laws forbidding this violating the Constitutional rights of these individuals?

Rather ironic that conservatives are against immigration, and complain about high birth rates amongst welfare moms, but do not want to support contraceptive promoting policies.

The President didn't "blunder" (even if he did annoy a few extremists on the Right).
