Jeremy Lin: Is the Media Racist?

It's racist through and through. One of two things happened. Either the person who put these slurs up has clearance to do it unsupervised and used a horrid display of words or the person who clears the text for the writer is an utter moron.

Brand name protection collapsed in my estimation. Whoever is responsible needs to be demoted to the mailroom.

Please. The intentions of each are night and day. Cracker Jack has been around since the 1800's and is named after "excellent quality." The intentions of the editor were to use a common phrase (***** in the armor) and tie it in with Lin's race, using a derogatory term none the less. Night and Day. Even you should able to see that.

Race is such a deeply ingrained part of American society it is naive to suggest that it plays a small or no part in any given exchange.

Floyd Mayweather got poo for suggesting that the coverage was biased on Lin's side for his being Asian, that there were blacks putting up those numbers every night. Floyd is right, perhaps phrased poorly, but race is a factor.

Now this happens and folks wanna try and paint this as non racial. It's all race in America. It would be nice if we could transcend it, or at least accept one another, but I don't see that happening anytime soon.

 

And of course like a typical liberal no proof it was meant racially and not the common phrase everyone with speaking capability knows about.

First the argument but those guys are doing it, is the argument of a five year old.

I agree with the you, BDM. Using "*****" in the headline is offensive. It is a derogatory term.
But I don't think, when stuff like this happens, that "heads should roll" or lawsuits should commence, no matter the political persuasion of the offender or offendee. It should be used as a "teachable moment", for the offender as well as the public, IMO(& an apology, of course).

I think this is sensitivity on steroids. Talk about much ado about nothing. ***** in the Armor is hilarious. And if a single person in this thread wants to try to say they wouldn't make or laugh at a joke like that in the company of their own friends, I'm calling them a liar right now. The only kind of people who can't find the humor in something like that are miserable people who are so sensitive that they can't relax enough to laugh at anything. The world is only as serious as you make it.

As for Amasian, I'd like someone to explain how that is offensive. It was a play on the word amazing. Meaning good. Meaning awesome. Meaning something positive. Meaning a compliment. Had they combined it with a negative word, I might understand.

And I'm from Houston. I watched Yao for almost a decade. Do you know what his nickname was here in Houston? The Great Wall. As in the Great Wall of China. That's what the sportscasters called him on the air. No one ever got offended by it because there was nothing to get offended about. Everybody thought it was cool. Because he was this massive Chinese dude who was a total dominating force.
