Back in the 90's you heard about this all over the place. The global affliction that was going to destroy mankind but it seems to have just faded away.

Did they find a cure for it or something?

This is why no one cares. Only 40k or so new infections a year. 90% of that is from gay sex/drug use. And 73% of the infected are minorities.

So for the vast majority of us, AIDS poses no threat what so ever, and is generally self inflicted through risky behaviour. If you aren't gay or a druggie or pick up ghetto hookers you don't have to worry about AIDS.

In the 90s, we were scared AIDs would become more widespread and affect the general public. But that never happened. So now no one cares about AIDS.

It was a relevant episode to this topic and it wasn't meant to be news....I was joking. The boys from South Park found a cure to aids by injecting themselves with Magic Johnson's money :)

Sincerely, yes money does help, as well as breakthroughs in medical science, public awareness, and public policy of needle exchange. This doesn't take away from the fact that AIDS was an epidemic that was ravishing us (and still is a public health problem). In fact, it still is a problem in many poor countries were funds are low, public awareness is low, and a lack of proper public policy.

Yeah, I remember hearing "Africa will become an uninhabited wasteland in 10 years" 20 years ago.

Still hasn't happened yet. Won't be long African immune systems will eat HIV virus like candy.

Are you for (*)(*)(*)(*)ing real? Aids wrecked havoc in some of those countries and your attempt to minimize this fact is gross.

Are you serious? If so, then I expect you to support you claim?

I think the biggest factor about the lack of caring is that AIDS used to be a disease that kills you. It still kind of does but our treatments for it can let people successfully live with it for a much longer time. It used to be the average lifespan of someone diagnosed with HIV was 7 years. Now it's like 25 or something. And that average, some people live a lot longer with it.

I'm just saying that there was a level of apocalyptic alarmism and it didn't turn out that way. Remember when Mosquitoes were thought to carry it?

Sickle cell anemia is more prevalent in black folks becuase Malaria spores cannot function in anemic blood. It is a naturally developed resistance.

Syphillus used to be deadlier than AIDS, kill you within 4-5 years several hundred years ago. Now it takes 20.

    Human bodies adapt.
