Gingrich needs to turn this around. Perry is supporting him but as of this poll, Santorum still has the heat.

Why does Gingrich need to turn it around? If you are a GOP-type a Gingrich nomination guarantees an Obama win.

    mmm..Further investigation reveals...

    http://www.statesman.com/news/texas-politics/santorum-leads-gop-pack-in-texas-poll-2189655.html

    1.. Published: 6:41 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2012..
and the poll reflects the week BEFORE..not after.

2.The presidential race in Texas remains highly volatile, and the numbers could change significantly between now and the state's primaries. They were originally scheduled for March 6 — early voting would have started this week — but have been delayed by redistricting litigation. Texas still doesn't have all of its congressional and legislative maps in place, and May 29 appears to be the earliest possible primary date.

    3. "Rick Santorum has cut through the clutter and emerged as not simply the non-Romney candidate, but as the most credible conservative candidate in the race," said Daron Shaw, co-director of the poll and a professor of government at UT. "He hasn't totally clinched that, but Santorum has gone from a guy who couldn't get two minutes in a debate to being a guy who looks like the front-runner — not just in Texas, but maybe nationally."

( note..Santorum has lost 4 states and one CPAC vote since then )

    4. In the October UT/Tribune poll, Herman Cain led with 27 percent, followed by Rick Perry at 26 percent, Paul at 12 percent and everyone else in single digits. Santorum had just 1 percent in the October survey.

    5. What are they seeking? Someone with the ability to beat President Barack Obama was chosen by 45 percent, followed by someone with high standards and character (25 percent), someone who shares issue views (20 percent) and someone who has the right experience (8 percent).

END..This poll just reflects the week before and shows CAIN winning in OCTOBER ?

this is JUST as sad attempt to show Santorum has some sort of MYTHICAL support nationally and beyond EVANGELICALS..which he does not have.

By the time TEXAS VOTES I BET A ZILLION CREDITS

CAIN will not be the winner.

Santorum has really played a shrewd card by coming out and attacking birth control and JFK....In the general, if he takes strong positions against tampons, sexy underwear and Teddy Roosevelt, he might go all the way.

    GO RICKY!!!

That is a myth Romney and his minions have put out there from beginning. Newt has lot of old enemies but also supporters.

    btw, your avatar is scary.

It has nothing to do Romney or anyone else. Gingrich is highly unpopular (as evidenced by his overall poor showing thus far) and is clearly always a few minutes from stabbing himself politically. He is also about half as smart as he thinks he is. Obama would mop the floor with him.

Well I would LOVE to see that put to the test.

I think it would be just the reverse. (I'll wager you $10K Newt would win)

Well, you won't! Because the GOP types don't even like him. Independents really don't like him. I would not even take your money. It would be morally wrong. It would be like betting on a game that you did not know was already over.

    http://www.newsmax.com/Newsfront/romney-leads-poll-rasmussen/2012/03/01/id/431114

Former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney, coming off his primary wins in Arizona and Michigan, has jumped to a 16-point lead over Rick Santorum in the battle for the Republican presidential nomination, according to the latest Rasmussen poll.

The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey of likely Republican primary voters shows Romney with 40 percent to 24 percent for the former U.S. senator from Pennsylvania. This is Romney's biggest lead to date and the highest level of support any GOP candidate has earned in regular surveying of the race. Two weeks ago, it was Santorum 39 percent, Romney 27 percent.

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich earns 16 percent support, closely followed by Texas Congressman Ron Paul at 12 percent. Two percent prefer some other candidate, and 6 percent are undecided. The new findings mark virtually no change in national support for Gingrich and Paul.

The national survey of 1,000 was conducted on February 29, 2012 and has a margin of error of plus or minus 3 percent.

END.. I think we can show that the new polls are more reflective of the elections so far..

We want to keep him around for a while. He slams Obama better than anyone, but probably is not electable.

Well, if there is anything we can be sure of, its that the polls will change.

That big 16 point lead Rasmussen is showing could change in a heartbeat.
    So means nuthin really.

I'm still holding out for a Newt win. He peaked early and tide is about due to come back in for him. I say he's the best debater out there now. He'd flatten BO.

According to your graphic all three besides Santorum are statistically tied for second as they are all within the +/-5% error of the poll so I don't see what the hubbub is all about. It also only is done over 371 people.
