Why do people always talk about stupidest things?

Why do people always talk about stupidest things? One example is my post I made about gays – it stays on top, because people keep posting to it, while my posts such as below, related to politics, no one cares about, I dug them back on page 6

Well for one thing, your posts don't belong in this section, you're discussing current events and people. This frustrates me even more than the multitude of vapid discussions... no one actually talks theory or philosophy, just rhetoric and "this guys sucks" or "that guy is the messiah".

Either way, how does what I said have anything to do with what you said?

 

Threads about economics often have some good posts in them. Even they are inevitably overcome by people calling each other racists, marxists, and fascists. I've started rating the threads with five stars when they reflect more legitimate discussions. Outright propaganda and pretexts for name-calling get one. I don't bother rating the others.

 

But to answer your question, I think it's because most people only understand stupid things.
