Liberals raise the taxes on cigarettes supposedly to fund children's programs, then go all out to reduce the number of smokers and then complain about not enough revenue for their programs.
Yeah, that's about it. They will also raise taxes on such so much they will create a black market and then then they'll get even less revenue.
Legalising and taxing drugs will get you all the cash you americans need to get out of your debt hole..
Conservative logic: Oppose birth control. Oppose social programs to help mother who just had the kid she wouldn't otherwise had. Blame the mother for being irresponsible. The father was just doing his job, but the mother is the slut. Seems far more illogical than taxing cigarettes.
Hmm, yet reducing smokers ALSO reduces healthcare costs and the burden of government healthcare programs as well. Sounds logical to me. In fact, the lower the healthcare costs due to smokers giving up the expensive habits, and I'd bet the government would make up that lost revenue and THEN some. Once again, sounds logical to me.
You already fail, as this isn't the Conservative position. Another fail. Conservatives provide more to such private social programs than do Liberals. This is pithy, certainly. Are you unwilling to acknowledge irresponsibility in these matters? Certainly you possess sufficient intellect to realize that Conservatives recognize irresponsibility on both sides, correct? Hey - no one's questioning your ability to construct windmills in your mind, certainly.
This is where I thought you were going: Liberals increase taxes on Cigarettes to try and discourage smoking, but raising taxes on investing is going to do nothing to discourage investment and GDP growth.
It hasn't made much sense to me either. The liberal standard seems to be 'do what sounds good' without bothering to think of, address, or even acknowledge the consequences. Another poster brought up a black market for smokes, and it's true. I can't remember what terrorist group it was but one of them was selling knock-off smokes in New York not that long back. Apparently smuggling tobacco is a big thing for them because, like illegal drugs, it's cheap to make and has a huge profit margin. Hell just selling cigs between state lines can net someone a buck or more per pack. Sin tax is ridiculous. I can understand adding a tax to a product that is to pay for related items (gas meet tax for road repair) but taxing an item simply because the public doesn't like it is bull (*)(*)(*)(*).
