I merely used N Carolina as an example because they have a history of bigoted discrimination. California also reflected this bigoted discrimination in both the passage of Prop 22 as well as Prop 8 and both of those, when addressed by the courts, were determined to be a violation of the equal protection clause (Prop 22 based upon the equal protection clause of the California State Constitution and Prop 8 as a violation of the 14th Amendment).

What is very puzzling is that anyone would vote for a measure that they know violates the civil rights of the individual. Someone really needs to explain that to me. It's bad enough when we inadvertently violate someone's civil rights but when we do so intentionally it makes absolutely no sense to me. It's not like the inclusion of same-gender marriage violates any civil rights of those that endorse opposite-gender marriage.

I believe the whole issue can best be summed up by one of the greatest proponent for the ban against same-sex marriage in Massachusetts after they once began allowing same-sex couples to marry:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Same-sex_marriage_in_Massachusetts

Absolutely nothing changed for opposite-sex couples in Massachusetts when they allowed same-sex couples to marry. It in no way adversely affected any opposite-sex couple or even the attitudes of individuals related to marriage. What it did do was eliminate the civil rights violations of same-sex couples at the state level and lead to the Boston Federal Court's decision that DOMA violated the US Constitution based upon both the 10th Amendment and the 14th Amendment.

Why are there still people advocating civil rights violations in America that serve no purpose whatsoever?

Ya just gotta love conservapedia. I went to the link and then went to the sources only to find that the sources were not statistical data to support the claims but instead political opinion books and papers.

Did that many people die under Communist regimes? Who really knows but we would have to remove those that died from economic policies as those have nothing to do with whether a person is religious or not. Does socialism work? So far it hasn't but theorists still argue that it could. Can a person be both a religious person and a socialist? Absolutely. Economic policies, not a stance on religion, lead to the vast majority of deaths in communinst countries.

Always remember that in a very real sense Jesus, based upon the texts written about him decades after his death, was a socialist but then who knows how accurate those texts really are anyway.

Of note the US has been involved in the deaths of over 6 million innocent people since WW II so we don't have a very good record in this regard either.

If anyone takes the time to go to the "Talk Page" on the conservapedia link they'll find that the entire piece was slammed for being invalid.

And how many did he kill?
Stalins laws protected the Russian Orthodox Church from the total persecution in the Soviet Union and his daughter professes his belief in Christianity.
    Buddhist.
    Catholic.
    Therevada Buddhist.
Given two of them were Christians and one didn't kill in the name of atheism but in the name of Communism, yeah, you do.
Only in Table Talks and two of the three people who can vouch for their authenticity deny it.

Is this true everywhere? Is this a law?

Being religious does not exempt you from following a law that everyone else is required to follow. That would be special rights. Are you asking for special rights for Christians?

These examples, especially the stewardesses and the woman in Texas are extreme, I'll admit. You can thank the political religious right for that. They are going to have to realize that people who don't swallow the Christian religion lock, stock, and barrel tend to get a little annoyed when that religion is trying to stick it's nose in places it doesn't belong. Not saying it's right, or that I agree with extreme backlash like those examples you listed, but I can understand why it happens.

I have trouble believing the depths to which you believe in this faux persecution. There are Christian church's everywhere. There are only a handful of politician's over the years that have been elected who aren't Christians. There has never been a non-Christian president. The reason Christianity is targeted the way it is has to do with the fact that it's the most visible and the most represented religion, by far, in this country. Again, I don't agree with every anti-Christian action that occurs, but I do take heart in the fact that people are finally rising up against it. There has to be a counter-balance to everything, and it's about time there is one for Christianity in this country.

You both are assuming that those toxic herbs were always that way. Man's sin has caused a lot of things to change from what they originally were.

I did not say anything about evolution. My point is what the Bible shows and that is when Adam sinned his action caused his environment to become hostile. Adam severed his dominion from being under the kingdom of God to Satan's. Jesus’ purpose for coming was to restore man’s dominion back to being under God’s government. And when God’s government is fully here on the Earth, nature will cease be hostile.

Why is it OK to mock one religion but not another?

We can agree that the belief in mythical entities is the belief in mythical entities but I find no reason to mock someone's belief in them.

I don't object to anyone's religious beliefs but I do object when they use those beliefs to violate the inalienable Rights of other individuals by legislating their beliefs and, in effect, forcing everyone to bow down to them.

Though all religions are suitable, it's simpler to mock the one with which you and your audience is most familiar. What's the point in making an elaborate joke concerning the Red Mufti of Weisel if nobody knows what you're talking about?

That simply doesn't mesh with not only the geological and climatological picture of Earth, but of the entire universe. The entire universe is, in effect, trying to kill you. Apophis is an asteroid predicted to come dangerously close to Earth's orbit(within a few hundred thousand miles(about the distance to the moon)) sometime in the late 2020s(I could be wrong about the date). On our scale, that's huge, that would lead to huge global climate and geological effects, but in the eyes of the universe, it's not even something you would bother taking note of.

Our planet is 75% water, which will kill us. Even a subtle shift in our orbit would bring sweeping changes to global climates. In fact, if Earth and Venus where to switch places, given enough time they would also switch planetary conditions, with Earth becoming the planet with global omnipresent cloud cover and out of control global warming, while Venus would eventually cool. If this universe was designed with precision, it was designed with the intent of being completely hostile to any life living in it.

Had Adam not sinned the world would not be the way we see it today, filled with hostility both of man against man, and animals against animals and man, and the universe would not be a threat. In fact, God intended and intends for man to dominate the universe and make it what it was create to be.

The science doesn't align with that though, and that's not something you can ignore, at least if you want to be honest.

What I'm talking about is the way it would have been had Adam not sinned, or the way it will be when the kingdom of God has been fully set up on the Earth, which will take place when Jesus returns.

Sin is destroying everything. And man is responsible for the evil on earth. If you want to talk about the picture of earth…it was perfectly formed….to the letter. The mathamatical degrees to which is all is in place is nothing but God constructed…the earths rotation, entropy, the laws of thermodynamics…meteorological laws…all point to one thing….God. And the Bible addresses them all. Read the book of Job.

John Kennedy said this….."And yet the same revolutionary beliefs for which our forebears fought are still at issue around the glove-the belief that the rights of man come not from the generosity of the state, but from the hand of God.

So he is right…because today the Judeo Christian values upon which America was founded are under attack. As we can see here on this forum secular extremists and anti religious people are on a public mission to not just remove but get rid of religious faith from our history….. the consciousness of the country. Not good enough to silence in public….but to eradicate…from the fabric that this country was founded on. They are attempting to rewrite and change history…to make something that is fact and the truth, a lie. And Shiva you and your ilk want to replace the power of God with that of a secular government….one that YOU CONTROL. A government set up that makes it easy for you to control the masses (mainly our children)…one that is easier to brainwash…to be narcissistic, self centered…robots who hold alligence not to any God but to the STATE.

What you don't get and don't care to get is that our Founders in the very First Amendment to the Constitution aimed to guard our FREEDOM OF RELIGION….NOT GUARANTEE US FREEDOM FROM RELIGION. You want a country without God. You don't want to hear about God…His name…you don't want to hear people praying, or giving thanks…You don't want symbols…anything reminding you that people believe that there is a God. You can not tolerate this and you won't. So you have set out on the road to eliminate God from the fabric of the country….and to try to change peoples attitudes and heart.

You can't abide the idea that someone has a God belief. Because for you…when man looks to God for salvation….he has a morality you find ghastly. So today we have two camps…two sides fighting for power. Religious freedom on one and atheism and totalitarianism on the other.

One of those sides God is not on…and it is not the later.

Even our president believes that this war does not exist. That ought to tell you that he obviously is not one who reads his Bible, that is if he even owns one. I remember when he went to Georgetown to address the university. The university was ordered to cover up all symbols that represented its core beliefs…..Christianity.

There is a concerted effort underway to replace peoples allegiance to God with allegiance to government….and it starts today at the top. Rest assured that there are people like me who will not just roll over and play dead but will be in your face..and will never stop fighting for God…or for the principles for which we became a nation…a nation under God.

The denial of same-gender marriage which is being propagated by the Religious Right violates the civil Rights of ALL Americans. It is gender discrimination under the law and violates the US Constitution (as has been confirmed by numerous Court decisions).

The national motto of "In God We Trust" violates my religious Rights under the 1st Amendment because I don't trust mythical entities and certainly don't believe that the United States should trust in them. It is an offensive national motto.

The changing of the Pledge of Allegiance to include "under God" is offensive and a violation of the very ideals upon which America was founded. We are not a nation under god but instead a nation under the US Constitution.

The laws against abortion violate the inalienable Rights of Women and, as such, violate the Rights of ALL Americans. A woman is a person but a zygote, embryo and/or fetus is not and only the woman has inalienable Rights as all inalienable Rights are inherent in 'persons' and do not exist for non-persons.

The posting of the Ten Commandments on a public building violates my Freedom of Expression because I can't post the "8 I'd Really Rather You Didn'ts" on the same wall and the commandments and/or teachings of hundreds of other religions cannot be posted. The postings of the Ten Commandments are discriminatory because others are denied the same ability to express their religious beliefs on public buildings.

    Shall I go on?

Once again, I have no problem with people believing in mythical enities so long as they don't attempt to impose their belief upon me under the laws of the United States.

So where does the side that hates the idea of God start?

    HOMESCHOOLING

The NEA believes that home schooling programs can't provide the student with a comprehensive educational experience. The Association believers that if parental preference home schooling study occurs, students enrolled must meet state requirements. Instruction should be by persons who are licensed by the appropriate state education licensure agency, and a curriculum approved by the state department of education should be used. The Association further believes that such a home schooling programs should be limited to the children of the immediate family, with all expensed being borne by the parents. A Resolution adopted by NEA

Homeschooling is an attack against the public schools. Not all are Christian but a great majority are and the LEFT see this as a threat. Multiculturism and the moral relativism its build upon is not taught in most home schooling homes and that upsets those in control….the NEA. So they seek to tie the hands with stringent regulations of those who keep their children at home to teach.

Homeschooling is just one example of the freedoms we have in America. These parents are showing that it does not take a village to raise a child. And today the academic success of homeschooling has become public knowledge. If you look at the National Spelling Bee……and other national academic contests…the home schooled child is there. These children are being admitted to the best colleges and universities in the country. What is visible is that homeschoolers as well as Christian schools represent a danger to liberal multiculturalists who want all kids to be indoctrinated into their worldview….and kids who are taught at home aren't as likely to believe the mindset that thinks the governments purpose if to give them the cash-flow for every desire and need that they have. They learn what the LEFT tried to hide…that the purpose of government is to protect property, liberty and especially all life. So homeschoolers will continue to be a target for those who hate the religious.
