The Reason the Government Tells Us Troops are Fighting For Our Freedoms

They are fighting for our freedoms. Whether the current battle they are fighting "protects" us is up for debate but their actual existence simply protects us. People do not engage war with us simply because we have the protection. We live a simple life, the Spurs lost tonight... I am very sad!!!

But on a serious note, the United States Military is the backbone of this country and provides us all these freedoms to complain about how bad America is.

They don't need to be in 192 countries.

 

Sadly, a voluntary military is a complete disaster and has hurt the US.
People who self-select the military are not the best people to give guns to and put in the heat of battle.

Having a permanent military also promotes violence the same way that having an arms industry promotes military action.
If they can't produce weapons and bombs, the economy weakens, so we keep shovelling money at the military industrial complex so they can make more weapons and then we keep finding new places to use them so that business improves. It's a sick and vicious cycle and nothing like the the founders imagined for the US.

It is also harmful to the society as a whole to have some who fight and die and some who sit back and posture.
The healthiest societies will have a national service where everyone contributes to the nation's defense, maintenance and well-being, and in return receives the essential tools to become and remain a better citizen- education and healthcare- and social security when they are not able to care for themselves any longer.

The whole concept of pushing patriotism is as degenerating and debilitating a con job as pushing religious obedience on a population.
Both serve the state and authority at the expense of the individual, and both are lies perpetuated to keep the individual obedient and mindlessly pliant.
It's no wonder that we have such a degenerate society today when we create a world where we can excuse any sort of barbarism under the guise of patriotism or religious righteousness.

You have the freedom to be on your computer, ignorant about war, griping about how much you hate the Military. You are free to do that because we have a volunteers, it's because of these people volunteering that we don't have a draft, or mandatory 2 year service.

For it not for volunteers, you would have your freedom of choice taken away.

But of course non of this matters to you. You are an extremist in your beliefs and no civil conversation is going to sway the way you think. So I don't even know why we bother with you.

You think you know war, but you don't. You know SOME things about war, but the heart of the matter, you don't know jack. You are free to not know these things, and stay ignorant to the realities of war and how it's really done, because of your freedom of choice. Because of that freedom, you think we all rape and pillage, murder innocents, and what have you. Because of your freedom of choice, you have chosen to not go to a war zone and see first hand how professional we really are.

Someone else already mentioned that I wouldn't last past bootcamp/basic combat training so what exactly are you talking about? I'd most likely have my freedom taken away for a couple of months until my "rebellious attitude" gets me kicked out then I can (*)(*)(*)(*) off to do whatever I was going on about before. But to be sure, killing freedom fighters in 3rd world countries who are defending their brothers and sisters from the Satanic imperialist war mongers is not keeping me safe.
