Eric Charlton, of West Haven, was charged Friday with a second-degree felony count of manslaughter and misdemeanor counts of reckless endangerment and carrying a dangerous weapon under the influence of alcohol. His 17-year-old brother, Cameron, was shot in the head on May 28 while camping with family and friends at Yuba Lake State Park, about 110 miles south of Salt Lake City. According to court documents, the brothers and a friend were drinking around a campfire at about 3 a.m. when Eric Charlton began demonstrating firearm techniques. His .45-caliber handgun fired. Investigators say Eric Charlton was distraught and the shooting was not intentional. Prosecutors say they felt charges were justified.

They were drinking? Alcohol and guns do not mix. Stupid is as stupid does. It was not the fault of gun rights or gun ownwership or gun laws, it was just plain stupidity.

Oh that's riiiight these two liberals didn't believe in carrying firearms to protect oneself from wild animals either and both wound up killed and eaten alive by a grizzly bear. Oh and if you listen to the audio recording of the attack, (which does exist and is out there, but not for the feint of heart) in the end, Mr. Treadwell who had many of the same sentiments begged for and pleaded for and fought for his life. Wishing to God, for something other to protect himself and his girlfriend with, than a mere frying pan to hit the bear with. After listening too and reading about what happened to those two. All one can say is this. It is sure odd how such liberal leftist notions and "convictions" about firearms to protect oneself and one's family with, go right out the window, the second the leftist's ass is face to face with the mountain lion or grizzly bear and really on the line isn't it? Only a moron goes into bear or mountain lion country and carry's no protection for themselves. Of course on the flipside of the coin only a moron drinks and then plays with and even handles firearms too. From what I see in the OP however these "charges" which are it appears much more politically driven than justice driven seem a bit excessive. A year or so jail time, and the memory that the man shot and killed his own sibling are punishment enough I think.
