Of course examples will be ignored, it's human nature to deny that which doesn't fit into one's view of the world. Socialism is a more robust form of economy than capitalism, but socialism has its drawbacks as well. As I said before, pragmatism if preferable to ideology.
Amen! It's darned SAD... that we pretend Americans have 'great' healthcare. We absolutely need the Affordable Healthcare Act to remain in place; even to IMPROVE UPON what it does.
The business approach to health care in the United States works for those who can afford to buy health care, whether it be as individuals or collectively through insurance. It's not intended to provide health care to all, only those who can afford to buy it. So from that point of view it doesn't need fixing, it works very well. What should be examined is the provision of health care to those who cannot afford to buy it.
This goes to that American value of individuality and how it has been turned into a shibboleth. I would like to see the breakdown of life expectancy correlated with levels of income.
In some situations they deserve to have revenge enforced for them. Including unimaginable torture in some cases. Unless you don't believe in personal responsibility e.g. if you rape a kid/murder someone then you deserve what you get.
I can offer my personal theory that actually addresses both the slightly shorter life expectancy as well as the higher murder rate that has some clinical backing. Americans suffer perhaps the highest levels of stress of any industrialized nation and it is the stress that leads to both shorter life spans as well as more violent behavior that can lead to murder. http://www.apa.org/news/press/releases/stress/2011/health-risk.aspx
Of course I believe in personal responsibility. I believe criminals should be both punished and given the chance for rehabilitation. And to make it very messy I also agree with the concept of free will but also think that determinism is in the mix as well. After many years of dealing with criminals face to face I think they're mentally ill and in the future, when we hopefully know more about what really causes crime, they can be treated. Until then I have no problems with them being in prison. I'm not keen on torture, not much point in it.

Explain to me how socialism has made Europe and England such a great place that it is today. Oh wait....
Universal health care, universal unemployment pay, universal sick pay, great public transport, great public broadcasting. Do I need to continue?
Universal debt, national bailouts, future collapse of the Euro, economic national monopolies (Deustchland). Sure, what you have listed is great, but what we are seeing RIGHT NOW is a region that cannot financially support these socialist (yes, I agree, they're beneficial) policies, and this puts the entire Euro-zone at risk. A good remedy would be a Europe, perhaps not in a Union, that operated as a economic and national individual state, especially if they wanted to implement socialist policies. However, this would be some of the countries at risk; the same countries threatening to tear the EU apart. In the US, most companies cover health care (so that's not an issue), we have thorough programs of welfare (unemployment pay), companies provide LOTS of sick days, and nothing beats American radio (can't say the same about American television and that's why I don't watch it). Not sure about public transportation, I know it would be beneficial, but I'll stick to my sports car; chicks dig it .
Norway is the fifth largest producer of oil in the world. They have the highest standards of living and are number one in the world for democracy. They have universal healthcare, everyone can go to college and get a good education that is easily affordable, they have comprehensive social welfare...
You already quoted me on this. I made a rebuttal, check it out. I have healthcare coverage through my job (check 1), I went to college for free (scholarships, check 2), I don't need welfare, because I am a man, an individual, and would never subdue myself to any form of subsidized ANYTHING from the government, which is what Americans USED to do (check 3). If Americans don't want to work for these things that I obtained, they can move to Europe. We have no room for them here. Everything socialism offers in Europe is accessible in the U.S., most times for free. Our incentive is self responsibility, not dependent reliance. I encourage you to live and work in America, where you can become a man of means, not a sheep of the European herd. I'd avoid Europe at all cost, the Land of the Weak and Home of the Gay.
Obamacare is the only national health care system that federally empowers a private monopoly. Under a private system we provided better care with better doctors and equipment than any other country in the world. Why do you want to pay to feed serial killers?
