I'm not saying I agree with what happened to the Israeli Olympic team in Munich, I'd just like to add a few details and context to this discussion.

The Palestinians who kidnapped the Israeli Olympic team were trying to call out attention for hundreds of Palestinians in Israeli jails. After all, Israel was still committing crimes against the Palestinians as the Olympic games were going on. At some point during the kidnapping the German authorities agreed to give the kidnappers an airplane and helicopters so they could fly to an airport. As soon as they landed, the German police open-fired on the vehicles containing the Olympic members and the Palestinians, and this is where the remaining 9 Olympic members were killed. Its uncertain if it was the German police who killed them, although it was reported that the kidnappers blew up a helicopter with the hostages inside, but this only occurred after the negotiators tricked the kidnappers into an ambush at the airport.

The kidnapping itself was a horrific crime, but as I said, Israel still had been committing crimes against the Palestinians, and wouldn't even recognize them - or as Golda Meir, Israel's prime minister put it at the time, "there is no such thing as the Palestinian people." The actual goal of the kidnapping was to call for the release of 200 Palestinian political prisoners, as I've already mentioned.

Another quick thing I'd like to raise is Israel's aggressive actions following the kidnapping in Munich. Israel launched large-scale land and aerial attacks on both Syria and Lebanon on September 8, 1972. Israel bombarded population centers within Syrian territory, including the coastal region, El-Hama, El-Kafr, Sahm El-Golan and Mzerib in doing so, they killed and wounded several civilian citizens, including one woman killed and a number of women and children wounded. And in Lebanese territory 24 Israeli military aircraft carried out a raid against the communities of Rachayya el-Wadi, al-Rafid and Mukhayyam Nahr-el-Bared. The above-mentioned communities were indiscriminately bombarded with rockets and strafed by the aircraft. These attacks on Syria and Lebanon left several civilians killed and many more injured.

I guess where I'm trying to get at is that Israel too committed crimes against Palestinians. Don't think kidnapping the Israeli Olympic team was unprovoked.

Khalil, You can always find justifications for every violent act.
Too many ppl on both sides have been hurt by this conflict - everyone has a reason to be violent.
If we will use this line of thinking, i would go on a jordanian killing spree since my relative was killed in the 48 war.

How did I justify the act? I clearly said that I don't agree with it, and described it as "horrific crime". I just added some important facts. If you don't like what I said then it is always up for discussion. What are you thinking? That the kidnappers kidnapped the Olympic team for the "fun" of it?

The Israeli attempt to politicise the olympic games is disgusting.

No we don't remember Munich at the London Olympics. Neither do we remember Bosnia, Iraq, Afghanistan, Lebanon and all the other wars and atrocities between now and then.

To put it another way, the Olympics is for athletes competing in good fellowship, it's not about politics.

    To put it yet another way;

Even Iran is sending an Olympic team. If Israel can't approach the event without axe grinding and political grand standing, then stay at home.

The harbinger of death, the Grim Reaper of states, has no place at any international event, be that of sport or culture.

'Israeli' olympians? Do not make me laugh, 'Israeli's' are about as far from the Olmypian spirit, as one could possibly get. Plus, you just never know how many of their 'team' could have shot dead a child, and be a hellish murderer, that is possible, given the structure of how the militarise their population, and have done, since it was spawned.

It may not be commonly reported in Zio media, or penetrate the skulls of those addled by Ziocaine, but wherever 'Israeli' sports teams, be that basketball, football, and any arts or theatre companies, when these take place in most countries, they are met with a wall of people who just do not want them in their country.

I guess that is what happens when you act as psychopaths.

These scenes, in varying forms, methods, and manner, are commonplace.

    But of course.

It will be everyone else's fault.

    Never their fault.

    Lol.

Abu Abbas (Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas) was the one who subsidized the killing wanting to score one for the Arabs I presume... Now he is the leader of the so called Phallustinians in Judea and Samaria scoring his murderous act as an act of Patriotism... Well... It was TERRORISM. It was ARAB TERRORISM and nothing but TERRORISM... I hope all of you pro ARABS ARE HAPPY NOW!

    Guys...

    The world has moved on...

We don't take a minute of silence at the national holiday or whaterver because our previous King died abruptly in his sleep whilst on holiday...

Let us get real, shall we?

First of all, you do realize that Abu Abbas and Mahmoud Abbas are completely different people? You meant Abu Mazen (Mahmoud Abbas).

Furthermore, the only evidence that Abbas financed the operation was an allegation made by Abu Daoud. It was also said that Abbas didn't know what the money was actually being spent for. Now the allegation that Abbas financed the operation (again without actually knowing where the money was going) is only true if you are to believe what Abu Daoud wrote, because Abbas, and nobody else, have ever confirmed it - in other words, we can't be certain that it is true.

Next if you consider that terrorism, then so is the countless massacres committed by Israel. Including the massacres following what happened at the Munich Olympics. As I demonstrated on the previous page, Israel launched large-scale land and aerial attacks on both Syria and Lebanon on September 8, 1972.

Now why did this act of terrorism in Munich come about? The answer is simple: illegal Israeli crimes (or as you like to call it terrorism) committed against the Palestinians. The operation only occurred to shed light on the hundreds of Palestinian political prisoners suffering in Israeli prisons, and also to open peoples eyes to the Israeli occupation. Again, this violence wasn't unprovoked.

The only fact relevant to this thread is the fact that Arab terrorists murdered Israeli Olympians in 1972, just like they've deliberately targeted and murdered a countless number of Israeli civilians, women and children. All your attempts to excuse, explain, justify and obfuscate deliberate attacks against civilians are too obvious even if preceded by the obligatory 'we condemn terror but....'

A few things of note here.

First, according to the article, the Munich victims have been honored at every Olympic Games since then (except in 1980).

Second, this isn't the same as honoring random other victims of war and such. The reason for its relevance is that it happened to Olympian athletes during the Olympics itself.

Denying the request to honor these victims isn't as big of a deal as some are suggesting, but it does raise some questions. For starters, is this decision in appeasement of certain groups that implicitly approve of the terrorism involved?

    Khalil, what re the facts?
There is an ongoing conflict between Israel/Palestine.
That is no excuse for terror attacks.

Now, you say that you are against the attacks, but you add the "BUT" word.
Which makes your post contradict itself - there is no but.

I am against the killing of civillians.
If some family members of the ppl murdered on the bus in bulgaria will kidnapp palestinians and murder them - i will be against it.
    No "IF/But" from me.

It is absolutely right to honour the victims at each and every Olympic games after that attack. The obligation was on the games organisers to keep the athletes safe and to honour them and their needless loss, is the least that they can be expected to do.

There is a group of ppl that seeks Israel in every event so they can waive those flags, its safe to say that there are many that don't like to be "pushed" into politics as much as those ppl would like them to , all in all, this is good for peace so i am not against it.

Nice touch from the local conspiracy officer ;)

When they prepare in advance, sure, I suppose they have financial support too, association etc',

Actually, I NEVER read ONE person from the Pro-Palestinian or Anti Israel group that ever took responsibility in the least about Arab or Palestinian part in this mess, its ALWAYS Israel fault about everything, and that's not only funny but damages the creditably of your arguments because every person knows both sides in most or least are at fault,

Jack, I spoke several times against Israeli gov, did you ever see the Arab fault in this?

Your point is basically that "Terror works", bombing and kidnapping is an efficient tool to bring the attention of others to the objective of the criminals,

It may be true, no one will admit that because it means terror wins and is a "legit" tool for everyone to get what they want, but if you follow that line - that terror is the way - you must also embrace the counter attacks by those that fight it, return fire to rockets, airstrikes on headquarters, arrests, roadblocks - all that is result of terror - both seems to work........

The violent path was not new, it was not like "the peaceful village could not bear the oppressive boot no longer - so they revolted", we had violence between us since ever, the Arabs never stopped - what they did was leaving the Palestinians alone to deal with Israel....while Israel took the arrogant approach with them, racist even.

Anyway, no one can say that a peaceful resistance would not be more effective in the Palestinian Independence, the fact is the violent path was already paved and supported from all around them, Terror may have the desired effect but on the worst side that could have happened.
