Eagle Scouts return medals over organization’s anti-gay stance

I'm sorry...but you have to wonder why gays are so intent on being around all those boys. Frankly---its a little weird. Do we want girls and boys tenting together? Its the same thing if you encourage gay boys and gay leaders to attend these camping events.

Boy Scouts...unlike Weblos and the lower ranks...is all about camping in the middle of now where alot. Perfect place for boys that like boys in sexual way to want to be. Men that like boys as well. And don't tell me that gay men don't like teen boys---of course they do. Just like straight men would get hard thinking about sleeping with a teen girl. Its a hetersexual organization and has to be to do the activities they do.

 

To those who replied to this thread so far: The fact that these heterosexual adult Eagle Scouts realized the terrible message the BSA is sending to vulnerable young men, and sacrificed their medals to distance themselves from that message, shows great integrity. Bravo!!!

I never let my kids camp overnight unless I'm "helping" in some capacity onsight. But I had to make Boy Scouts the exception. They welcomed the Dad (who won't go)--but wanting me away.

 

So you think girls and boys should tent together.

 

Okay...right...right, but didn't this latest legal case begin with a lesbian who had a son in Scouts? How is that a gay man trying to be around little boys?

Technically, it is the lesbian who you know 100% won't want to diddle with your sons. The guy scout masters could be a Sandusky. Married on the outside, loving boys on the inside.

 

The scouts is a fantastic organization. What is imparted in the scouts is immeasurable. I never made eagle... it is one of those early commitments I wish I had stuck to. It is something to be proud of. It teaches leadership, strength of moral character. It is a Christian based organization, one of the few, that isn't particularly preachy or indoctrinating or denominational. They get to allow or disallow anyone they see fit attendance. They do not let girls in. They do not let gays in. They do not believe sexuality has any place in the scouts... it is pretty straightforward. There is a rainbow scouts organization or some such nonsense... let your gay children go hang out with those gay leaders in the woods if you want. That isn't what the scouts are about.

If Eagles want to give back their medals/badges... they earned them. I can't imagine doing so... but it is theirs to do with as they wish.

It goes to show that the BSA is not a brainwashing political institution. The BSA is about harmony with the natural world, and common decency. Helping little old ladies and the like. The world needs more boy scouts. It isn't about "hating" gay children... it is an environent devoid of sexuality, usually through the time when young men are going through puberty, to focus their minds and energies on being successful human beings.

Any eagle should be proud of the accomplishment.

As an Eagle Scout myself, I have to say that I rather agree with the BSA's decision. Not as regards the boys, but the leaders definitely need to not be gay.

Would anyone here think it's a good idea to have Girl Scouts chaperoned by men that were attracted to them? No, I highly doubt it.

And so what is so wrong about saying that it's not a good idea to have Boy Scouts chaperoned by men that are attracted to them?

Now, I will have to say here that my favorite Scoutmaster over the years was a woman. She rocked. But there is a constitutional difference between men and women, and yes, even between gay men and women. This is why there are things women can do that men can't. Sometimes you just can't trust men.

I would not have wanted my leader to be gay, and I would be very, very, very disturbed about sending my son (if I ever have one) off into the woods with a gay man 20 years older than them. I wouldn't care about another boy that was gay -> because they have no position of real authority at camp. A Scoutmaster, otoh, is an adult amongst boys. Not good if there's any possibility of sexual attraction. I would also have reservations about a gay woman being a Girl Scout leader, for the same reasons . . . though not quite as acutely.

Just sayin'.

If the BSA stands for virtue, obviously the answer is yes. If boys want medals for being perverts, let the adults who love perversion start Sissifed Scouts of America and give them all the medals their perverted little hearts desire.

 

How did you get that idea??? No, I don't. I was a Girl Scout Leader for 10 years. One camping trip we had a dad come with us to help drive, but he stayed in a motel in town.

CampFire. My kids went camping with that group (me with them) and the leaders were lesbian. Its not a bad organization...but its not Boy Scouts. And its leadership seemed to be more women oriented then men.

Well, I guess I kindof disagree with you here.

I think that pedophilia only refers to an attraction to pre-pubescent children. Once a youngling has developed secondary sexual characteristics for a few years, they look very similar to 18-year-old versions of themselves. The only way you know their age for sure is to check a birth certificate. I myself find some 16 and 17 year old girls very attractive . . . but I don't need to get with them because I know that's a cheap shot and a few years waiting ain't a big deal. (And no, you should not trust me to be a Girl Scout leader, even though I think I would be perfectly capable of restraining myself . . .)

I'm pretty sure that someone attracted to an 18-year-old boy/man would also find a lot of Scouts very appealing as well . . .

 

You know...I did not know that scouting went to 18. ^^makes more sense than the other arguments that I made fun of. But...since you're only banning openly gay men you may still get closeted ones...why not then allow lesbian scout leaders. They certainly won't be turned on by teen boys.
