Maybe she CHOSE to not HAVE HER ENTIRE LIFE DEFINED BY HER SEXUALITY, a GREAT LESSON FOR ALL GAYS, who ARE TOTALLY DEFINED by THEIR GENITAL PREFERNCE.

 

It's all one convoluted mess of social engineering and social justice to realize some deluded collectivist outcome....and from the very first layer...to the hundreds of layers later...the rights and importance of the individual have been trampled on and virtually left out of the argument.

The 14th amendment guarantees equal protection of PERSONS....not "couples", not "groups"...INDIVIDUALS...and until this absurdly unconstitutional practice of affording special benefits is attritioned out of existence, we can only expect more and more class warfare narratives and whining
and more and more layers to "correct" for more and more instances of "discrimination" and "victimhood"

 

How is applying a laws designed to keep a family of a wife and kids together by giving them a spouse's retirement equal to giving Ms. Ride's girlfriend her retirement? Did this girl friend stay at home with the cat? Why didn't this woman earn her own retirement when the liberal horde expects married women with kids to work outside the home? They attack Mrs. Romney for not earning her own way but want NASA to support Sally's girl friend??? Adults should be expected to provide for themselves and being a sex toy isn't acceptable.

 

Was there a merger of income, assets and liabilities based upon a personal/financial partnership? For example joint checking and/or savings accounts, joint ownership of personal and/or real property, shared bill paying and financial obligations, etc.

If so then justifiably those federal benefits should be granted.

If not then there isn't a justifiable claim.

Most Social Security spousal benefits are unrelated to young couples with dependent children but instead are related to older couples near or at retirement age.

Was she gay? Its not clear if she was lesbian or bisexual. She was married to a man for 5 years, at her death she had a female partner, and some comment from Sally Ride's sister, thats about all that is known.

I wonder about her being gay. Its hard to believe that such as secret could be kept given Sally Ride's work and standing, and that a media source would not have publicized the fact that a well known figure as Sally Ride was gay.

The fact that Sally Ride herself did not ever mention the subject indicates she didnt want to be known or defined by her sexuality but by her accomplishments in education and science. If she was gay, fine. I don't care. She lived her life on her own terms, and let everyone else live on their own terms.

Its too bad that the gay rights and special rights fanatics want to usurp Sally Ride for their own agenda.

 

Hypothetical: I'm single, worth 6 million dollars, and want my daughter to have it all, including my Social Security benefits, unmolested by inheritance taxes after I die....so we, as consenting adults, petition the state for a marriage licence so we will be recognized and afforded the same ability to transfer my wealth to her without government taking a large slice...but are denied because of current "morality" laws.

What argument can the Surpreme Court present that separates me and my hypothetical daughter's scenario from a hypothetical "constitutionally approved" gay marriage scenario.... "EWWW, that's gross..that's just wrong" ?

the same sex relationship is consentual....my "marriage" to my daughter would mutually agreed upon and consentual...

Ickiness aside, I imagine a judge would not look favorably on you because you would be knowingly participating in a blatant form of tax evasion--particularly since you "married" your daughter purely for inheritance reasons. I can understand your frustration, but these taxes exist knowing that your children will be the likely ones to receive an inheritance.

 

Apparently she was "gay", and apparently she was as professional as you allude to. By all measures, the woman was a consumate professional and role model in how she conducted herself in all things.

They did not ask him about homosexuality. They were trying to trip him on the laws of divorce thinking he would go against Moses commandments regarding divorce. You should familiarize yourself with the scriptures if you plan on quoting them because I will not sit idol when some one pulls them out of context to support their views. well that didn't take long. What a load. They were business partners. Ride MAY be gay or bisexual or whatever. But the two were childhood friends, were business partners and therefore HAD KEYMAN insurance or business insurance if you will plus Tam had her own income from their partnership and Therefore does not need and is not entitled to any kind of pension from Sally's former position. Same would be the case for an astronaut dead guy with a live in girlfriend.

I swear you guys will milk any situation to get your way. Shameful too. The woman just died and here you are already making points off her bones.
