Who alienating who? The guy simply doesn't support gay marriage. I know it's pretty much a hate crime to disagree with people like you, but what he says actually has no impact on your life what so ever.

See in adult land, when somebody says something you disagree with, you don't throw a temper tantrum, and try to carry out some childish boycott that has no chance at at all.

Dan Cathy is not a CEO. And a score is 20 people.

Do you think ALL of C-f-A's customers are happy with current events surrounding the company?

And THAT is saying a LOT... for a guy that sells food to scores of 'gay' people. This may likely all die-out in a few months... but for now Mr. Cathy has said what he has said; what he has expressed is NOW ASSOCIATED with the corporation he owns. This isn't difficult to fathom.

I know that the above is a personal attack and exceedingly unreasonable.

You are very likely incorrect. I've explained it before (repeatedly); I won't repeat it again, not here... probably to my friends/family though.

See, in smash-mouth sociology... we don't assume that those with great wealth and thus significantly greater political influence... necessarily exercise benevolent actions.
More money for Mr. Cathy = more BOUGHT politicians to promote his memes, paradigms and agenda.

Adults don't take that kind of stuff for granted.

    I disagree.

Okay... you must get over it. I do a LOT of things you might disagree with, but I have a purpose and reasonable agenda to pursue. (Adults have those too.)

Less money for C-f-A, likely equates to less political power for someone who thinks as Mr Cathy apparently does. (Easy math.)

Those who see only what matters to themselves... tend to discourage those who have a vision which progresses beyond their own. That isn't unusual in this world.

Really? Why are many news outlets referring to him as such? Here's just one.

I used the plural form of the word; but if you'd rather I say "thousands"... that would probably be accurate also.

I've only ever been to chik-fil-a twice in my life. Never made a habit of eating that deep-fried excrement, but if I did I probably would now not return until they got a new CEO. I don't like the idea of politicians trying to muscle these businesses out of town, though they're free to write all the angry letters they want.

I wrote ChikFilA in regards to their policies in donating to Exodus, which was my biggest concern. It is one thing to say that you believe marriage is between one man and one woman (this excludes polygamists, too) as a personal opinion and another to donate to an organization that obviously cannot pray the gay away...at least, not for long...using store profits.

Be that as it may, I cannot support the boycott any longer because of the actions of politicians using their position and power to force the type of speech it wants "or else" and those calling for death threats on the company and those that eat there because a) the government cannot get away with using force to change free speech, and b) no one deserves death for not boycotting a product.

Gay marriage will come either through the courts or the people forcing government out of the regulation and approval of rights and freedoms, not through political arm-twisting of a chicken sandwich maker.

Sorry to say, that is also going to be part of what changes things. Some people vote at the polls, and we all vote (yea/nay) at the counters of businesses.

Apparently only the ones that are politically motivated hacks.

You're right, when I walk I to a business intending to complete a transaction, I make the owner's political views pass my litmus test.

Actually it rings of truth. It's no secret political hacks can't stand opposition to their views.
    Umm whatever
You're right guy, the chicken fast food secretly rules this country thru their wealth and their lobby in DC. Gotta to love the paranoid gibberish that cones out of you people.
So far you have demonstrated nothing adult like thru this conversation.
Only if it were as simple as that.

So calling for a boycott and throwing a temper tantrum is a reasonable, because you can't stand the fact that people hold different views than you? You're right, very adult like.
Ok, more paranoid ramblings. Do you own a tinfoil hat?
Seriously, get the (*)(*)(*)(*) over yourself. Your vision of progress is nothing but a farce.

I dont think that all his 'frothing at the mouth' on this thread is going to do anything..just another liberal, ranting & raving and thinking that by those 2 methods he is going to change the minds of ppl who would attend a Chick-fil-A, but because of HIM, they will not!

BTW, my family went to chick on Thurs (lunch) & Fri (breakfast), and would have gone today..but they're closed. So looks like 2moro, then....will be thinking of Johnny while I'm there "VOTING with my stomach"...will make that Chicken Sandwich taste that much better!!

There are many who are concerned. So be it.

If the CEO expressed a view you didn't like (say on fire arms or taxes), I doubt that would have "zero" effect on your patronage.

It's not 'wrong' for homosexual people and those who fight with them, to make an issue of this.

Even so, we realize that people have reasonable agendas that they are pursuing. That isn't ever going to just go away.

    Okay.

Nah. I just know that political power (especially at the present time) is tightly associated with financial power. Someday that may change, and so will the tactics of those promoting an agenda (whatever it may be).

As an adult, I'd say that it is appropriate for you to get over it.

Some things are simple, others take time and perseverance. We are human... we aren't perfect.

You want to dismiss this as a "tantrum", meanwhile I'm looking at how it can be wielded as political power and influence. Gay people want their rights to be equal to those you possess; that is what YOU and others FOR C-f-A might try to consider as you express your views.

I'm an African American, homosexual man in my 50's. I've seen people 'breathe' disagreement; I'm able to accept that people's views differ from my own. Stop assuming what you cannot truly know.

Irrelevant. (If I'm so terribly juvenile... you as a responsible adult can actually ignore me; either electronically or intellectually.) I understand that if we are so diametrically-opposed to one another, productive dialogue may not longer be possible. It happens.

Are you willing to offer something of reasonable substance... or so you think that your insults are going to change my mind? :)

I try to be reasonable; I'm not perfect.

And there again, we have to disagree. Okay.

We all change this society incrementally. This exercise, expressing what I think/feel... is just a dry-run for other things. I suppose someone influential might be reading these posts, but I don't bank on that.

Interestingly enough, I have seen many of the things expressed in this forum reflected in many Conservative talking-points in other media; that along with the almost predictable responses.

I have nothing against the food there, I used to eat it a lot (even way too much)... I was sorry to let it go. Nice flavors and good service as well.

LOL!! No, you won't. If you're anything like me when I used to step in there, I was focused primarily on the pleasure the food was about to bring to my life. :)

Yep. I know what you mean.

I hope you and yours enjoy it. But you won't see 'me' (or others who believe as I do) there.

Cons validating that Chick-fil-a shud be boycotted merely by some remark by their CEO? I dont think so...the right to not eat there, yes, as everybody, gay or not, has that right.

Where the intolerant Liberals want to hurt & punish all other opinions but theirs, the Cons dont act in like way...how would it be if the Cons would go on a hate gays & gay marriage campaign, bashing them and calling them derogatory names, and any and all businesses that promoted their lifestyle? Would that be equivalent to your calling fundamentalists bigots & homophobes? Are you a 'heterophobe?' A male & female had to have hetero sex for YOU to be here! Ergo, you must hate your parents?

BTW, one thing that I trust about Chick-fil-a as being a 1st class hi-integrity business, is that when I order my chicken sandwich, I have confidence that 'my meat' wont be contaminated by feces.

As with most boycotts, protests, and attempts by a segment of the population to show their disapproval, there will not be enough to make a difference.

I think that this shud kick-off an effort to send questionnaires to all CEO/COO/CFO's of all businesses in the U.S. to use gay marriage as a litmus test so ppl could avoid their businesses or products. How about that?? Let's do it right, huh?!

Okay. I generally see your point.

I really don't mind people blasting other opinions... as long as they realize that no one usually gets their way exactly. There is almost always some kind of compromise involved, when policies or laws are enacted.

I've seen ALL (despite their 'labels') act like human beings. None always has their 'good' side showing.

I've seen that; haven't you? That has happened. And it's one reason that sometimes gays show that they are fed-up with the hatred aimed at them. Let's face it, gays a re usually the target... not the ones dishing it out. And even in the case of C-f-A, most gay people are only promoting the idea that people should not eat there. It's not the kind of sustained hatred which many homosexual people have endured for most of their lives. There is some comparison to be made, but not so much.

Of course, haven't you seen homosexual people attacked socially, politically and even physically? What's shocking to some today, is that homosexual people (Americans) are learning to protect themselves and fight back on virtually all levels. I'd say that was inevitable. Even so, I would say that civility is the best policy for ALL sides.

I have to admit, I see great amounts of bigotry and homophobia in those who are religious. I was a Fundamentalist Christians, and I used to be that way for a time. I know how many Christians are indoctrinated to think/believe. Still, whether or not someone mitigates their 'behavior' (in any sense) depends a great deal upon the individual. Some people are just terrible and unyielding in their dogmatism; and no matter how we try to slice it... that is difficult for anyone to deal with.

How do you define that? But going along with the meaning you seem to imply, the answer is no. There are specific parts of a woman's anatomy that either don't turn me on or that I find yucky... but I have zero problems accepting heterosexual people at all. They are my relatives, close friends, and others I care about and love. Their sexual-orientation, relationships and "marriages" don't bother me one iota. I'm encouraged by the real love I see, period.

Of course. Or do you discount/overlook the reality that most of us are raised to BE heterosexual; we know about reproduction well before we know we're gay (in most cases).

Of course not. I imagine some gay people may hate their parents, IF they were horribly rejected for BEING homosexual (which more than a few parents could not handle, back when I was a kid).

I noticed that virtually every time I stepped in there... with few exceptions.

LOL!! Why that thought in particular? Is there something in their process which guarantees 'zero' "feces"?? :)

I would generally agree. Even so, there is also the bolstering of political movement, which stems from the publicity garnered from the expression of outrage.

Still, there is no guarantee that C-f-A won't (in due time) suffer financially from this issue.

The only thing that Chik-Fil-A seems to do exceptionally (relative to other fast food places) is customer service. The staff there are all super friendly and attentive.

Boycotts are part of free market capitalism, which I'm sure you'll agree is not a quality of the left.

    So you're a bit off.

Look, I don't support the boycott (anymore...I draw the line at extremism). I'm just saying, this isn't just "one guy" in the company. It's the CEO of the company, the bigwig, the head honcho. That's a bit bigger of a deal than just some random fry cook or cashier, is the only point I'm trying to make.

So are the boycotters, since boycotts are free speech as well.

Well, that's not entirely accurate. He did donate quite a large chunk of money (which is his right. Gotta point that out or people will jump down my ass) to anti-gay marriage organizations, which DOES affect the life of any advocate of gay marriage because it puts them that much farther away from legalization.
