Michael Phelps now known as the most Deadly Olympian to ever Live!!!!! 19 Olympic Medals is now the new record and Michael Phelps holds it. He also still has more Races to come and will most likely win some more. I believe that his record will never be broken. What do you think?

Amazing, but of course will be broken, hopefully by an athlete doing a manly sport.

All of Phelps' medals are for the same reason; swimming fast. All they have to do is add one more swimming race and someone will have an additional chance to win every four years. The same goes for running, skiing, sailing, rowing, speedskating or any other sport in which one single talent wins mutiple medals.
If someone wins a lot of medals for doing two unrelated things that will be more extraordinary.
Also, who in Olympics history has the highest percentage of gold medals (most gold medals won with no silvers, bronzes or non-medal performances)? That record might hold.

Only because if you're a swimmer you can compete in more events than any other field.

How many events can shooters compete in? Or Basketball players?

Neither of these two should be olympic sports. And for the love of god, why is the butterfly even a sport, it's akin to having a 100m running race but with each competitors laces tied together.

    I'm happy for him.

But, then again -- the only athletes capable of doing this are (1) swimmers and (2) gymnasts -- since they have a lot of races (and thus, a lot of opportunities to win a medal).

I mean, a runner can't run the 100m, 200m, 400m, 1500m, etc... -- most are good in a short, very fast, run; and some are good in the long haul...

As many as they qualify for.

Then there's the triathlon. Running swimming and bicycling.

Give every Decathlete ten medals when they win, how does that compare?

If they're playing basketball then they're not also swimming, riding a bike, shooting, etc. All they have time for is basketball. They can win 1 medal even if they're the best basketball player ever.

Not necessarily. The biathalon, triathalon and decathalon all involve different sports.

Everything yall say is true but I should have been clearer, do you think that any swimmer will ever beat his record? And Phil you do have a good point but I don’t think will ever add another swimming event. But what I believe to make everything more fairly is for every race or every game any other sport is won, they should receive a gold medal. And what’s up with the gymnastics way for qualifying for individuals?!?!? It should be the top 24 of the entire world, not just the top 2 from each country......
