In a lengthy interview with his hometown paper, Clint Eastwood defended his(*)speech at the Republican National Convention, saying his unconventional performance was a spontaneous decision. The former mayor of Carmel, Calif., gave an interview to(*)The Pine Cone; the story was published Friday."President [Barack] Obama is the greatest hoax ever perpetrated on the American people," Eastwood told the paper. "[Mitt] Romney and [Paul] Ryan would do a much better job running the country, and that's what everybody needs to know. I may have irritated a lot of the lefties, but I was aiming for people in the middle."Eastwood sounded far from defensive over criticism of his self-described "very unorthodox" speaking style, freely admitting, "I really don't know how to" give a traditional public address. He added: "That's what happens when you don't have a written-out speech."In his opinion, Eastwood said his critics in the media "are obviously on the left" and would be critical of him no matter what he said. As for Eastwood's fans? Well, not all of them loved the speech, but it(*)doesn't seem to have changed their affection(*)for the Academy Award winner. The actor's appearance sparked a meme across the Internet known as "Eastwooding," and a California artist even placed a(*)life-size cardboard cutout of Eastwood, alongside an empty chair, overlooking a freeway in Glendale, Calif."They've got this crazy actor who's 82 years old up there in a suit," Eastwood said. "I was a mayor, and they're probably thinking I know how to give a speech, but even when I was mayor I never gave speeches. I gave talks."

Saw the article and loved it. My only dilemma is that TARP may have been the greatest hoax, not Barack Obama. But hey, Obama voted for it, so they both go hand in hand.

Good for Clint Eastwood. He's crazy- crazy like a fox. No doubt this will get pointy-headed liberal cretins up in arms and bat (*)(*)(*)(*) crazy once again- or would that be still?

Ya I understood the empty chair reference completely, but you know the democrats are completely incapable of making any kind of critical thought about it, so they just called him crazy because they can't comprehend the meaning behind it.

    Clint is confused, old, tired.

The American Taliban, or most cons posting on this board, are a bit younger than he is.

They tend to lean towards hating absolutely everyone who doesnt look and smell exactly like them...

Indeed. Paul Ryan also voted for it so I guess ... ya know... they go hand in hand.

Is this true you middle-of-the-roaders ?

You condone a geezer who *wants you to make his day* followed by a slash across the throat murder gesture ?

Maybe Clint was actually talking about himself ... I can't see how he would want to go on with life in his condition.

Clint's big "fail" is going down in history as one of the few moments of honesty in politics for the past hundred years.

Eastwood is right on. Finally a Hollywood icon who is a Conservative has spoke out an given his opinion. I actually have boycotted any Movie or TV show in which the outspoken liberal actors are spotlighted. Especially Kathy Griffin and the rest of the liberal hypocrit actors that earn millions and then agree that families earning $250,000 up should pay more of their income when they are already paying their share of taxes. And, when nearly 51% of taxpayers owe NO federal income taxes. Regardless if they pay other taxes, my family pays ALL taxes, we don't get a refund or handout or get any federal assistance for our childrens college or deductions that those earning below $250,000 get. No wonder democrats that owe no federal income tax and still get a tax refund want to keep a democrat in the White House. They wouldn't want to "bite the hand that feeds them".

Eastwood should know that a gag that has to be explained didn't work.

Everyone got it. It was the liberals who pretended not to, as the truth of it was too painful.

As Bill Maher said "Eastwood killed it." ;)

"President Obama is the greatest hoax ever perpetrated on the American people."

That is probably the most astute and succint summation that I've heard in the past 4 years. Bravo Clint. Must be heartbreaking for the left to know they have to hate Clint Eastwood now :)

Obama should have never been President. His rise to power was born out of desperation, mindless platitudes, a corrupt and complicit media.

Gotta love that Clint. He can really tell it like it is. He's 82 and doesn't really care what people think of him; he's telling the truth. I get his point. Obama was a hoax. A man got into the presidency because he was a good talker; gave a good speech. He made fun of Romney/Ryan in his speech last night for not having any foreign experience....but neither did he when he took office. He was a community organizer, no experience with anything that mattered, and who said he wanted to fundamentally change the U.S. and without explaining what he meant by that. More and more will come about him after he's out of office. The media and liberal press has been silent because they support him and want to believe he succeeded at something. But they won't be able to hide the truth forever.

Even Bill Clinton said of the Obama campaign back in 2008.....“Give me a break. This whole thing is the biggest fairytale I’ve ever seen." NOT too different than what Eastwood just said.

    Clint did a fantastic job.

If his job was to make people not remember Romney's speech.

Was his speech good? I don't know. It was rambling and incoherent nonsense. If that is what folks want to hear then I suppose it was. If he wanted to go all artsy fartsy and have some sort of performance art piece I suppose he did a great job then.
