Nothing I've done that involved a police officer has ever gone the way I hoped and I have been victimized greatly by them.

You mean when you speed they actually enforce the law? And when you say "Aw c'mon man, cut me a break, I was only going 10 over." they don't?

Ya, you're totally the victim there.

I don't live in The Great Satan. Down here we just get along. I ran out of diesel the other day and hitched a ride to the station and back with them. The four of us then killed a 12 pack in my garage. We go shooting now and then on my farm.Weed is tolerated. No problems at all. They won't smoke in front of one another.Honor thing, I guess.

They are thugs - "enforcers" for the state. I have no respect for them whatsoever. I view them similarly to Nazi soldiers who brutalize their victims... "just following orders... just doin' my job".

We live in an insane world, and these unthinking drones enforce the insanity - and that's the best that can be said of them. At worst, they are corrupt, abusive, thugs.

Can't imagine you live in a "free" country?? Seriously, can't imagine it...

Amerika is decending into a police state. Drug laws are at the forefront of that battle. Amerika has more people per capita in prison than any other country in the world - it's great sport here.

Kids are indoctrinated at a very young age with anti-drug propaganda, "Just Say No"... there are constant "public service announcements" warning the public of the consequences; roll thru a stop sign, and not only will you get a ticket, you're likely to get a flashlight shone up your a** in search of contraband; most businesses random drug test and hold your job against you as a conseqeunce - if you want to smoke a joint for medicinal, relaxation, or recreational purposes, you're playing Russian Roulette with your freedom and livelihood.

Amerikans no longer believe in freedom - in fact, they have been engaged in a decades long assault on freedom. We're nearing the end now though - debt to GDP is over 100%, and the Patriot Act has gutted the Bill of Rights. Here in Amerika you can now be arrested, detained, and held indefinitely without charge - all without a warrant.

Essentially, you can be kidnapped and disappeared by the government, and you and your family have no recourse. This is not widespread yet, but the laws are on the books. It's only a matter of time before a triggering event provides the justification for marshal law - then the jig will be up.

    It's sad.

    As bad as that?

Mind you, over here, they do have a reputation for massive cover up's.

    Hillsborough.

    Ask anyone British.

    It's a business.

What % of your prisons are now privately run, in some context? I was told it was a lot. Well, you see, when you privatise your prisons, it is in their interests to ensure a steady flow of inmates, and it is in their interests to ensure that those inmates are often repeat offenders.

If the idea was to have a criminal justice system that actually reduced repeat offences, and kept numbers low, you would be looking at something like that Bastoy Island experiment, in Norway.

Know, when I wanted them to arrest a man who assaulted me they didn't. When they found out the boys who assaulted me were white instead of black they did nothing. When they thought I was too shabby looking to drive the car I was driving they pulled me over and demanded identification. When I parked on the right side of the street instead of the left side of the street they gave me a ticket. When there was a "no parking" sign at the edge of the parking lot and I parked in the middle of the parking lot they gave me a ticket. When they found out that I had moved to another state they told me that it was illegal to drive in the former state without licenses in both and threatened to tow my car and gave me a large ticket. When my car stalled on the highway and I paused to look at the engine they forced me to go to the nearest repair shop making me miss work. When my car stalled on the highway on my way to pick up my wife at work and I had nearly walked to the exit they pi8cked me up and drove me to a location that had a phone but only let me call my mother so she could get me, making it impossible for me to call my wife for over an hour. When I asked for the police report as a homework assignment they lied about it being available to the public. When I was searching for a lost stepson and called 911 from a payphone they yelled at me. When i asked a question to assist in a novel I was writing they refused to help. When I inquired about where I might park legally in a neighborhood with many restrictions they refused to cooperate. When I was employed by the Fraternal Order of Police as a fundraiser they forced us to lie to the people we were calling and eventually fired me for apologizing to an old woman I called at 8 am. When I left a confusing message on a businessman's telephone in a distant town they called to harass me.
When I was subduing an assailant and was on top of him and they finally arrived they ripped my coat pulling me off him. When they arrested my stepson they stole his hoodie.
There are more including two so evil you would not believe them.

I've had plenty of tickets because my foot gets heavy. But they are always professional and fair. They respond when I call. Never have had a bad experience.

We did have a case of corruption---that went pretty deep and it became apparent that several people in prison who shouldn't have been there. But corrupt law officers were caught, including a judge and several long-term detectives.

It would be v nation dependent too, I imagine.

Some forces opt for a less aggressive, low key, sort of stance.

And then you get the forces that gained a notorious rep, if a given nation, or state.

I grew up in a family of cops; my dad just retired after 37-years, my grandfather was a district commander for the Idaho State Police (before it was called that); my uncle was a narcotics officer, my older sister is a cop, and many of my cousins are in law enforcement at some level. Now, don't get me wrong, I don't think all cops are good, but I don't denounce the entire institution for what bad apples do. There are a handful of cops who patrol my area who I don't see eye to eye on from past experiences with them.

tbh with you, I think they are p,ussies. but I live in sweden after all..

It's soo annoying that instead of beating the crap out of violent criminals they instead want to "talk" and "help" them.. something has to be done. I trust them tho

it's what they should be doing imho. well, atleast until he stops bitc, hing. swedish police aren't allowed to do anything, criminals can be how disrespectful they want, and the police have to try and talk to them, be friendly.. it's silly.

Be grateful you have a civilised police force, and probably prison system.

It works better, trust me, and that is what you want is it not - that which works best.

    Take prisons.

If they show a high instance of repeat offenders, I would suggest that this demonstrates a failed system.

    Thus, look for an alternative.

Compare the repeat offending rates of Bastoy Island, to those in more conventional prisons.

Bottom line - the former works better.

    Which 'scum'?

You would want state mandated murder, for someone that commits three possibly minor offences?

Criminals are scum. And no, not death for minor offenses but increasingly harder punishments and less freedom for each step.
