Everything that we see in our universe, our galaxy, our solar system, and our world, the birth of the human race, how everything comes together and works the way it's supposed to(at least for the most part and for most of us in the human body), our organs, tissue, tendons, bones, muscles, ligaments, skin, veins, blood, dna, all happen by chance?

"What is the Probability that Everything That is Called Nature Happened by Chance? "

the chance that our universe happened by chance is about 99%

...if there are in infinite number of universes, then we would be as we are for at least one of them

...if there is only one Universe, and it Bangs and then contracts and then Bangs again, then we would be as we are for at least one of them

the only way it could not be by chance is if we were designed by someone in a laboratory or magic was used, but then you have to ask how they were created

sense it's now said we could create a universe in a laboratory, would that person be their God? their Creator? because he\she set in motion their Universe...

maybe "we" have always existed and it's our collective consciousness that creates the illusion we call reality (If a God could of always existed, so could a collective consciousness)

I think it's probability is very big, but I'm not a mathematician. But I have two scientists who talk about this:

So since it's not my profession, I kinda have to rely on professionals in their profession knowing what they're talking about.

Only part of natural processes are chance. The other part (called natural selection in evolution) is about as far from chance as you can get.

It appears to me some people suspend their reasoning when it comes the probability of everything you stated. This is the exact thing many atheists and agnostics say about theists do, that we suspend our logic and reasoning when it comes to matters of faith. They are so blinkered by their own prejudice they do not even realise they do exactly that which they accuse us of.

The premise of the OP is the Arguement of Incredibility.

What are the odds that God arose by chance?

    Be explicit.

About the same odds that this is the only marble in the universe with so called "intelligent" life on it.

The prabability of something happening that has already happened is 100%.

    prabably.

life evolved not by accident but as a process of growth.

take a cloud of dust, in a vacuum. It is the light that entangles them and its ever present, vacuum or not.

life is all over the universe simply by the process of change, naturally present

See the instinct of any cell, life, process and note the accumulation of a snow flake (golden ratio).

It is self proven, in natures example, currently in process.

What is the probability? It's unknown. Anyone who says they KNOW otherwise is exaggerating. What I THINK however, is that the probability is 100%.

Yep, except that "chance" includes natural selection. Thus there is a system by which all of these things evolve.

I'd like to point out that probabilities always require an underlying mathematical model.

For example, when a weatherman says that there's a 30% chance of rain tomorrow, he means that his models predict rain with a 30% chance. Of course, it will either rain or it won't. The probability merely represents the uncertainty of the meteorological models and the inaccuracy in the data available as an input, but not a natural phenomenon. Probabilities can also arise naturally without a lack of knowledge, like in quantum mechanics. Nevertheless, there is no way around the corresponding mathematical model, if you'd like to calculate the probability of a certain event.

All of this may look obvious, but it's important to understand that probabilities are meaningless without an underlying model. So, what mathematical model describing the whole universe, including life, could anyone use to calculate the probability of getting where we are today? It's ridiculous to think we have the knowledge required to construct a model that accurately reflects all those complex processes involved in the origin of the universe and life. There is only one answer to most questions.

    I don't know.

It's a valid, good, and honest answer that leaves room for new discoveries. There's no need to jump to conclusions.

That's much easier to believe than the story that it was all made by a supreme being with all the emotional maturity of a five year old child.

This is how we know that 98% of all statistics are made up :D

This has always fascinated me, particularly with regard to so-called proofs of God's existence (or non-existence).

We will perhaps never know if there is any other form of intelligent life in the universe. On the other hand we could see evidence tomorrow. But if there were evidence of intelligent life outside of our little bit of the universe, what would be the ramifications for religion? If there are others, doesn't that make humans not the chosen people? If there is a God and God created the universe then He also created those other forms of life. Why should homo sapiens on Earth be privileged? We'd be also-rans.

But if there was no other intelligent life (we can't know that but this is for the sake of argument) then would that make us special? If this was the only planet that had life on it anywhere in the universe, would that make us really special? Would we be God's little plot of life? Why? For me, yes I'm biased, it would be more evidence that we are the result of a cosmic accident, not evidence of the hand of a creator.

How can dead atoms live and why do they lose their life force?

Why do galaxies have a giant ball of stars at their center when all of the other ones are spinning around it?

What kind of mud forms river and lake beds that keep the water from flowing into the ground?

For those that understand the math behind statistical probability they know that something that has already happened has a 100% probability that it will happen as that is established by historical fact. The probability of it happening again can very but the fact that it has already happened makes it a 100% probabililty that it can happen.

Of note the fact that something has happened increases the statistical probability that it will happen again. That's why it's almost certain that life exists elsewhere in the universe because life exists on Earth. We can show that it has happened so the likelihood of the same circumstances existing elsewhere is what the statistical probability addresses.

In just addressing the number of "intelligent civilizations in the Milky Way" (our galaxy) we have the Drake Equation:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drake_equation

This only addresses intelligent civilizations that we could detect in our galaxy and not life on other planets in general but even with this huge limitation the odds of intelligent life eslewhere in the universe is almost a certainty.

    So 2 facts:

    a) ...... great post
    b) ...... that logic has existed for how long and to this day, note how many have never learned such pure logic (truth).

If we assume the current best explanation of the universe, then the universe, our galaxy, our solar system and our planet appearing are pretty much 100% probability. We can see this from the fact that there are plenty of galaxies, solar systems, planets and so on in the universe. The probability of the universe existing may be argued to be unknown, but unless the universe doesn't exist, it's at least not going to be 0. The "birth" of the human race is harder to evaluate. It's going to be the product of the probability of life forming and that life evolving into humans. The probability of life forming is unknown, but given the large amount of time we have, we have no reason to believe it to be small. We also do not have statistically relevant data on life forming on other places, so we can't know at the moment.

Then there is the matter of the probability of life evolving into humans. This begs the question of what the definition of human is for our purposes. While "human" is quite well defined, the probability we're really looking for is the probability of life evolving into a species that is capable of asking the question. The relevant probabilities wouldn't change if the definition of humanity included six legs and a tail, so the chance of that kind of being evolving should also be considered. After all, we have no reason to believe that our bodies are special. This probability also is unknown, but whenever there is a slight drift of DNA, the probability of intelligent beings evolving will approach 1 will large time.

The features of our organs and the like are a subset to the last discussed probability. I have to go now, I might have been able to discuss that last point further.

Yes, but note the qualifier, "by chance". We all know it happened, that part is 100% established, but the question is what is the probability that it was by chance.

If you ask me, the probability is 100%, but not by pure chance. but simply because it's the only way that it would have worked to see what we see. :)

The reason behind that of course, is gravity.

And, if we're talking about the Earth itself and what's on it, just about everything exists the way it does because of gravity. Gravity formed our planet, it heats our planet, it causes us to revolve around an energy, heat, and nutrient source, it is involved in the formation of the land we live on, and plays a role in the evolution of the life we know. I'm sure I've missed some effects here as well.

Darn, somebody beat me to the Drake equation. :blankstare:

I guess the probability of our existence happening by chance (whatever that means), is infinitely better than it happening by magic. Since no occurrence of magic has ever happened, ever.
