Americans are going to be paranoid when they think their toasters are aware of their secrets.

And what is your opinion on this? They already use similar methods to gather information on people. The CIA is unconstitutional or at least exists to allow the subversion of it for those in power. Seriously they're an intelligence agency and your trying to hold them to a moral standard. Intelligence agencies exist to go beyond even lawful standards.

Searching Americans' computers from over the Internet. Logging Americans' phone calls. Eavesdropping with planted network microphones at transit depots. Cameras in every €£¥#%^* tree.

The United States disparages other countries for invasive state socialism, and yet the United States IS the world's largest most surveilled socialist state on the planet. H Y P O C R I S Y.

YES. The US was awe shocked at the SU's industrial agriculture. The US was awe shocked at the SU's use of technology for the state apparatus. The US today is not awe shocked. It is shockingly aweful. The US state has surpassed even the meager SU accomplishments. The US now is THE unsustainable socialist behemoth. All this because of a dirty political book written by a German political philosopher (M a r x), and the US's propensity to copy the failings of others.

It was on either CNN or Fox the other day about DVRs watching people during commercials, noting their reactions. It's like the X-Box Connect or Playstation Move. You never know who's watching from the other end.

You could always build a completely network free and data technology sterile "Jar" to live in....

They already do this. Telling you what will happen is just conditioning so you're not that upset later. Remember you two party types loves this stuff because "I have nothing to hide".

I've always understood and been in trained in electronics. Of course, they can watch/listen to anyone they must. I've seen documentaries on certain law enforcement endeavors... and it became apparent to me (many years ago) that those so 'interested' could indeed see/hear what we were (or were not) saying and viewing.

To me, how the government (or interested party) uses the info they collect, is my primary concern. I know the government watches, for various reasons (even if I may not agree with the methods)... but I am most concerned about commercial interests gathering information for their purposes.

The electronics we use can track and record many aspects of our lives, especially the communications devices we use. For example, to most people I'm participating with on this website... I'm anonymous, but with the proper legal reasons the government can take what I'm saying and attribute it to me. For many years, I've accepted that government or law enforcement may see what I'm saying/viewing (especially on the internet and watching on TV). Before DADT was repealed, the main worry I had was how someone might use my admission that I was a homosexual, which I have revealed in many internet fora, for years.

Even so, rather than live in fear and absolute paranoia... I simply accept that I may be watched, looked-at or listened-to, at any time someone sees fit. How the information is used and by whom (especially those with commercial interests)... is my greatest concern. One thing I know for certain, is that the person they see on sites such as this one, is the same one they'll see in a direct investigation should I be subjected to the same. No, not a perfect person... but certainly the one I have already been known by others to be.

But Lord knows... I don't need anymore ads about mortgage refinancing, food and automobiles. :)

Commercial? You're not scared of a Newt Gingrich someday having all the (*)(*)(*)(*) you've said on file?

Why would you just accept it? Why do you think this is acceptable? Because it is? Did you accept DADT? Wrong things should never be accepted.

I'm concerned with any sinister element that may be out there; yet, they are being 'looked-at' as well. I may indeed be vulnerable, but I'm not 'alone'.

I accept it, because I REALIZE cannot change it. Unless we all go back to 'caves'... (and those will likely be 'bugged' too), we will be monitored.

I'll ask you the same thing I asked myself 20+ years ago:

What are you going to DO about it?

There are far fewer of them, especially compared to our HUGE population. It's like casting your entire leg because you have a splinter in your pinkie toe.

The state of Virginia voted to disallow it in that state. It is not set in stone that you must be monitored.

Pro bono case work, hopefully retire from a "for profit" soon and be accepted at either Rutherford or the ACLU.

Absolute privacy... I know that it doesn't exist in this modern world. We have 'some' privacy, but I don't see how that will be perfectly guaranteed.

By more states doing what Virginia did, and by individuals making appropriate choices. Those who don't want privacy can sign up for Facebook like always.

The US government is merely a reflection of its people. We have the government we do because the American democratic majority voted for it.

    Exactly!!

We've had Republicans AND Democrats in power in this land. We have what we have. And any changes desired or required will come incrementally over time.

LIAR! The US people are fat diseased and disgustingly obese. It is just a coincidence that the US Government is that way also, financially and politically.

The American majority didn't vote for Bush. The American majority didn't choose the candidates! The American majority did not have a direct vote, but an indirect selection of electorates! HOW IS THAT DIFFERENT THAN A POLITBUREAU. Either to keep the idiot they didn't select or to replace him with another idiot they didn't select! ONLY TO HAVE THE FINAL DECISION MADE BY COMMITTEE. That is not choice! That is the illusion of choice! Tell the truth! You have the government you do because a few selfish pigs want everything for themselves, and they want the US people to fund their lifestyle. It was that way at the founding, it was a great place for a short while, and it is a horrible place today! Admit it!
