Would you be happier if the gunnman had chosen Rat Poison, or Germs, or a Gasoline Fire, or a Knife? Or a combination of all of them?


A gun is noisy, obviously a weapon, attacks one person at a time, and stops killing when the holder is killed or incapcitated.

Sure there is. We are a free society. One of my hobbies is owning/collecting/shooting guns. I go to work every day, I pay my taxes, I follow the laws of this nation. I just want the government to leave me alone. The government has no right whatsoever to confiscate or force me to sell my private property. If you want the government to control your life move to China or Vietnam.

 

People said similar things about alcohol in the temperance era. There was plenty of domestic abuse stemming from alcoholism, and various women's groups pushed for Prohibition.

It didn't work out so well in the long run though.

Emotional responses to important issues tend to result in very bad policies. We have to take the time out to rationally address this issue.

 

Who's Stupid?


Before 911, the idea of using box cutters to turn air liners into flying incendiary bombs to collapse high rise buildings was laughed at...



Remember the law of unintended consequences.


What if by taking away the gun, we cause the wackos to get more inventive, subtle, and efficient?


What if this wacko, lacking access to guns, had decide to use poison.


So he places a firework stand smoke bomb by a cafeteria trash can, pulls a fire alarm, and while the kids and teachers and doing the fire drill, sneaks into the kitchen on drops a pint of insecticide into the day's school cafeteria beeferoni.


Now he kills 620 people, most of them dying slowly and painfully over days as their internal organs fail.


But he misses kill his Mom and several other teachers he has a grudge against. He doesn't kill himself that day, they never figure out the connection, so 8 months later, he does it AGAIN.


This time, they finally make the connection and put him away, so the tax payer can now spend $65K per year keeping him in prison for the rest of his life.


Be very careful what you wish/vote for, you might just get it


Anyone abusing this tragedy to push for more gun controls has a Political Agenda; distraction from the economy most likely, or a unifying cause, or disarm U.S. because what you have in mind will bring assassination of leaders if Guns are still in the hands of honest citizens...

Something beyond just stopping violence such as the school or theatre shootings, because anyone who thinks it through understands it will NOT stop anything, and will probably make things allot worse.
