The constitution is a piece of paper with words on it written by long dead white racists. Racists obviously should not be taken seriously and the constitution should not be followed by extremists like it is some kind of holy text.

    No.

The state must act as a role model is matters such as torture.

What message are we sending if we say that torture is an acceptable way to gain information.

The belief that the founders of America were racists is based upon myth and not fact as the majority opposed the institution of slavery that America had inherited from British rule.

The equal protection clause of the 14th Amendment officially banned racism by government in America over 100 years ago. It didn't end racism under the laws but made such laws unconstitutional.

Like any contract, and the US Constitution is a social contract, it is current as of it's last revision date which was less than 30 years ago. Those provisions that have not been amended are as current today as they were when they were written. If they were not then logically we'd amend to Constitution to correct it.

    Absolutely.

That is why I believe there is a direct link between the US state machine using guns, violence, murder + a might is right outlook, in their 'foreign policy', and the psyche of MANY of their people, who are playing out almost a microcosm of what their own state are like.

as i said idk the specifics. i know nothing about torture. so leave it up to the government to decide. personally i believe killing 4 people with a gun is worse than 4 people with a car. but either way they deserve the same punishments

    I have a better idea.

    Educate yourself on it.

And don't let ANY Gov decide or do your thinking.

IMO, every flaming Lib should be tortured by someone reading them the Constitution and Declaration of Independence, 8 times a day then forced to read the Magna Carta twice a day. No do, no eat............

"You know nothing about torture" and yet you are advocating it?

How can one advocate for something one knows nothing about?

If you want to know the definition of torture - then look to the Geneva Convention and then I suggest you look up things like the Spanish inquisition, Hadud, Sodomy (and I suggest you might want parental guidance for that one) Look up Buchenwald and the human experimentation that went on there

Torture is the deliberate maiming of another person and infliction of intense pain - so once again, I ask - what exactly do you mean by torture?

I too wondered the same, however, having read his response to the idea of maybe educating himself on it first, I think it is pretty much pointless.

To my mind, if anyone even needs to ask why this is wrong, there is something wrong, with them.

Contrary to popular myth that most humans are inherently evil, the truth is we aren't.

However, through orchestrated manipulation, it is possible to get a % of people to engage in that which we would consider an abomination, at the common denominator appears to be if they can devolve responsibility for said actions, onto an 'authority figure', that could be anything, from a Gov to a god.

Learning is fun...oh...and when you know what it is they are doing..it no longer works.

If you don't like the constitution, you can start with giving up your first amendment protection of speech and this conversation would be over.

If you can, grab a copy of a book called A Study of The Popular Mind ..

Le Bon was one of the great popularizers of theories of the unconscious at a critical time during the formation of new theories of social action.

Wilfred Trotter, a famous surgeon of University College Hospital, London, wrote similarly in his famous book Instincts of the Herd in Peace and War, just before the beginning of World War I; he has been referred to as 'Le Bon's popularizer in English.' Trotter also introduced Wilfred Bion, who worked for him at the hospital, to Sigmund Freud's work Massenpsychologie und Ich-Analyse (1921; English translation Group Psychology and the Analysis of the Ego, 1922), which was based quite explicitly on a critique of Le Bon's work. Ultimately both Bion and Ernest Jones became interested in what would later be called group psychology. Both of these men became associated with Freud when he fled Austria soon after the Anschluss. Both men were closely associated with the Tavistock Institute as important researchers in the field of group dynamics.

It is arguable that the fascist theories of leadership that emerged during the 1920s owed much to Le Bon's theories of crowd psychology. At the same time, Adolf Hitler's Mein Kampf drew largely on the propaganda techniques proposed in Le Bon's 1895 book

In addition, Benito Mussolini made a careful study of Le Bon's crowd psychology book, apparently keeping the book by his bedside. Edward Bernays, a nephew of Sigmund Freud, was influenced by Le Bon and Trotter. In his famous book Propaganda, he declared that a major feature of democracy was the manipulation of the mass mind by media and advertising. Theodore Roosevelt, as well as many other American progressives in the early 20th century, were also deeply affected by Le Bon's writings.

Suffer how? An "eye for an eye"? Are we to castrate men accused of rape? (Accused not convicted for surely accusation is enough?)

Should they be tied to a post for a public whipping with say the "Cat o nine tails"?

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cat_o'_nine_tails

It tears the skin from the back of the person - is this what you are demanding?

Once again the United States was founded upon the ideal that the individual has inalienable Rights. We do, as an inalienable Right, have the Right of self-defense against aggression but we don't have a Right to be aggressive against others. We do not have a Right of Revenge and punishment is an act of revenge. If we, as individuals, don't have a Right of Revenge then we cannot delegate that power to our government.

As I mentioned earlier the American People are fundamentally uneducated when it comes to the ideals upon which America was founded. If they were educated then they would understand inalienable Rights but it is obvious they don't. This is almost unforgiveable for a nation that is founded upon the ideal that the very purpose of government is to protect the inalienable Rights of ALL Individuals. Fortunately we have the 8th Amendment that prohibits cruel and unusual punishment and even if an American lacks the knowledge as to why this Amendment exists they should at least be supportive of it and oppose torture of any kind. Sadly many Americans remain both ignorant of the reasons behind the 8th Amendment and oppose the Bill of Rights as well.
