No matter now much we 'invest' in society, there will ALWAYS be home invaders, rapists, murderers.... it's just part of life. They're out there and always will be.

And you can't fault the wealthy for isolating themselves from the scum in the streets. If you had the means to protect your family from any danger, wouldn't you? Of course, you would.....

Let's allow just a touch of reality to enter your world, please.

So a friend comes to visit with her two small children. Dad answers the door with a glock 9 in his hand, just in case. Then, while they're visiting dad sits by the front door with his glock and mom by the back door with her Bushmaster. Or maybe not.

So, instead of opening the door with the gun in his hand dad keeps the glock in a coffee table in the living room where it is easily accessible to the visiting small children. Far more likely and far more dangerous.

So, instead of the glock in his hand it is concealed. He goes to open the door and has a gun jammed in his face. Reaches for his glock and...dead dad and now the bad guys have two guns.

There are infinite scenarios but the only ones that make you "safe" with a gun also indicate you should not be trusted to own a gun.

There are also a number of scenarios of which nothing happens and a firearm is used to prevent bodily harm to a victim.

There is no need to be aggressively stupid here and ignore the obvious.

So every time there is something like this - and we have no idea as to the background behind this - (were the homeowners, children or not, dealing drugs from the house?) there is a cry of "They would have been safer if they had had guns"

That is pure speculation and bull

The research has been done and guns are only used approximately 2 times out of a thousand in situations like this - for the other 998 times you better rely on the police

Soooooooo in this OP you want to consider criminal activity...

... but, when you post stats, you don't care about the inclusion of criminal deaths?

    LOL

    The irony is delicious.

    Pathetic.

it's not a brand, it's a type. try google. the higher the % of OC, the more effective it is..but you might check local laws. i had to toss a case of 15% after the MI AG capped it at 5%. :(

a lifetime of PTSD counseling for the family would have been cheaper than one trial.

anyone that feels the need to own a gun for protection isn't just going to open the door. i don't feel the need to own any (but it do) and i would never unlock a door to a stranger without at least looking out the porch window (or peep hole if i had one). 5 strange guys? i'd go get my gun before i even spoke thru the still locked door.

Yeah, and they're likely to be traumatized from the invasion in and of itself anyways. Plus, five funerals would likely be far cheaper than even a year in jail for each. Win/win :w00t:

Not nearly as "significant" as a load of 00 buckshot to the chest from a 12-gauge shotgun!

Note: many people are affected minimally--or not at all--by pepper spray. Repeated exposure will do that, and so will being high on some drugs (or even just really drunk).

I work with a guy who can use it as breath spray. Shampoo in the eyes is worse for him that pepper spray.

Wow, you're stupid! There are these new things available called "deadbolts", "peepholes", and "outdoor lights". I suggest looking into them!

To be useful in the scenario provided the firearms MUST be within easy reach. In hand or within arm's reach.

Guys bust in and dad makes a break for the locked gun cabinet or to the back of the house where the guns are "safely" stored and guy with the gun who's ready, fires.

Of course, a steel entry door that opens outward and a 90 pound dog are not nearly as much fun as "brandishing" a firearm but they're far more effective and much safer.

There's a whole list of home invasions where they stole guns.

If the gun is not, at most, at arm's length 24x7 it serves no purpose for "self defense" but it does pose a very real threat to the owner, his family, his friends, and just plain people nearby.

If the gun is not in your hand or

To get through my locked front door quickly would require something along the lines of a howitzer. Never mind going to get a gun...I could probably go and get coffee.
