    Well,
It happens that this truely great actor is about to change the country of residenship from France (where the tax for rich people is 75%) to Russia, where it is 13% flat rate for everyone. This decision is really followed with some flavour, e.g. Deprdieu called Russia a gountry of a great democracy and promised to learn russian language and even admired Russian culture and people..., which I think is true, because Gerard spent some time in Russia already. But I wanted to talk of something else.
With a world that grows global too fast - will it open a tendency that people from countries with a heavy tax for rich people start moving and paying less tasxes in different countries? Not necessarily Russia. It can be Belgium or Kazakhstan (with their 10% flat rate).

But it would also be interesting what russians think of a new citizens and more yet to come. I myself welcome Gerard, for I adore his movies.

Corporations have been moving themselves and their capital around the world for decades to find the most suitable location to increase profit and lower expenses. Transnational corporations are not wedded to any particular country and it looks like wealthy individuals are adopting the same approach. Depardieu can live where he wishes, he is wealthy enough. Though he may, if he is ever in a reflective mood, ask why so many Russian billionaires choose to live elsewhere.

But as I say, he can live where he wishes, he will have no particular affiliation to Russia.

The idea isn't new. Wealthy people have been moving themselves around the world for longer than transnational corporations have existed. The only reason this is suddenly newsworthy is the fact that he is a celebrated French actor and that the French government is insisting that its wealthy citizens pay more tax than they are used to.

That act demonstrates his judiciousness. I hope he’s happy to be a Russian resident for tax purposes. The new French tax system is sheer robbery. :)

I do not think 13 % flat rate for everyone is fair tax. Rich persons should pay more. Though 75 % look like a robbery. It's the fact.

As far as I know Depardieu is going to have several citizenships. Probably Belgian or Hungarian one. But still this is just a gossip.

Is that in Belgium now, Key Largo?:wink:

Why would he go to live in Russia? I understand the economy there is changed and there are riches around, but has it become a destination for people like Depardieu?

What area is he going to and what is it like there?

it's 25° f with light snow today, where he's moving

he's going to live there to avoid taxes

putin looks like he's afraid depardieu is going to take a bite out of him

he's going to live in the capital of the republic of mordovia

Saransk, with a population of 300,000, is about 600 kilometres south-east of Moscow in a snow-covered region known for Stalin-era Gulag labour camps.

i wonder how this move will affect château de tigné

He has come to Saransk because he is going to play the role Emelyan Pugachev in the new Russian film.
