That's just the thing though... women aren't held to the same physical standards as men. Perhaps you should educate yourself a bit more on the military before making any additional rants.

The bottom line is, we all knew that this was just a matter of time. Legally, there is really no way you could win this one in the court even if you tried. It would all come down to "equallity" and we all know how that eventually always ends up.

I would be very hesitant to join the military if I were a young man. The ass-kissing and accomodations they will be making to women will no doubt endanger and cost the lives of many men- all in the name of political correctness.

    One word. Media.

Vietnam was the first time the public "saw" what war really was and could see it every night on their televisions. After that "war" became much more than just a word. It became the hell to the public that troops knew all along but the public never saw.

If people would have "seen" what we were doing in WWII they would have been horrified. I couldn't imagine the outcry if a news reporter set up shop watching Dresden.

We also were much more unified back then. Most people were simply saying "stop them at all costs". Now a days its "stop them but don't hurt anybody".

Gen Westmoreland didn't run a very campaign either. His choice of attrition and not working with the indigenous people cost the US big time in that war, all the while Gen Westmoreland was claiming the enemy was almost defeated. Then came Tet and the support plummetted.

You are over simplifying the greater issue

I dunno, maybe they will do that in the future because of this but they are treated no differently as of right now. The women get chewed out and smoked just like the men do every day. Outside of the physical fitness standards the Army doesn't care what gender you are. NCO's rip everybody new (*)(*)(*)(*)(*)(*)(*)s, women and men alike.

FYI, Gen MacAuther resigned his commission in the early 50's. In fact, it was his intelligence failure in North Korea, that got China involved and set the great stalemate that exists today.

There's no doubt in my mind there will be shortcuts made in order to accomodate.

This is already happened. Every woman captured has been raped. The odd thing is, the American people seem fine with it.

If they sign up then they know the risks, so it's their choice - we don't need the state protecting them from themselves by deciding what risks they can or can't take.

Women already have a different sent of physical standards to meet. The military would never try real equality, where men and women had to meet the same physical standards. It would flush most women right out of the military. But regardless of the standards, the mission of combat arms is just too grueling for most women.

This article, by a female Marine Corps officer, got the discussion rolling a few months ago. Get Over It! We Are Not All Created Equal

They should have to meet the exact same standards as men do if they want to serve in combat - if they have a different (lower) set of physical requirements specifically for women, then that's just another form of affirmative action.

The physical standards in the military do little to judge how well you can perform in combat.
Our PT test is how many pushups can you do in 2 minutes, how many situps can you do in 2 minutes, and how fast can you run 2 miles. And even with this test the women have lesser standards than men.

Most of the smaller skinny guys crush the PT test because of this. Yet they can barely walk 5 minutes with a rucksack let alone pick me up and carry me to safety on the battlefield. But we let them in.

The Army is working on a brand new test that actually matters. One that most women wouldn't be able to pass if the standards were equal. And if they can't pass that one then I agree they shouldn't make it.

Yeah, but just like any big corporation, the military is run along typical liberal lines. The military will do anything to make these schemes work, and the officers who oppose it will find their careers at a dead end.

Remember how GEN Casey reacted to the Ft Hood terrorist act?

General Casey: diversity shouldn’t be casualty of Fort Hood

“Our diversity, not only in our Army, but in our country, is a strength. And as horrific as this tragedy was, if our diversity becomes a casualty, I think that’s worse,” Casey said.

So if you have a general who thinks that "diversity" is more important than the lives of those soldiers killed at Ft Hood, then you can figure they won't care how many lives they have to put at risk to meet their Affirmative Action goals.

You sure like the idea of women being raped and you sure dwell on it.....you have no idea how that affects the view of your opinions....

It's amazing how the sexually disturbed show their hatred for our troops.....Women have fought and died for this country since it was a country, they have lost legs and arms and suffer from post trauma stress, lose their jobs, and make great sacrifices EXACTLY THE SAME AS MEN.

But the slimey cowardly misogynists hate them...that is so un-American.

Combat experience helps soldiers get promoted and denying women the RIGHT to fight for their country is just another way to hold them back from promotions.

I say let them fight, if they can't pull their weight, then they die just a easy as if she were a man and if the military adjust their standards for women, then they do them a disservice since woman will mostly be the first to fail in combat. I remember the story of Jessica Linch, she was being rescued by SF and what did she do while in the hospital and heard the commotion in the hallways, she hid under the bed covers, I foresee a lot of that possibly happening with these new rules but let them fight I say and prove themselves to the men. It's the women that have to prove their worth in combat, so fight.

If they can meet the standard, then let them. Their fellow soldiers need to know not to treat them differently, though... no extra look to see if she's alright (that wouldn't happen otherwise), no special treatment. Just carry on business as usual, and get the job done. If she can't keep up... keep out.

If they can carry their own weight why shouldn't they be able to serve in that capacity?

What else was she SUPPOSED to do with a crushed pelvis and a dozen other severe injuries except to avoid terrorists seeing she was an American?

I suppose you think you would have stood up and fought off all of Al Qaeda, although in reality all anyone would have seen of you is your quaking butt sticking out from UNDER the bed.
