Over and over, the superpowers invaded Afghanistan only to find out they didn't want to be there in the first place and couldn't get out of there fast enough. I don't think it's a case of the U.S. losing the war, there just ain't anything there worth fighting over.

Removing the Taliban from power and denying Al qaeda safe haven in Afghanistan was worth fighting over.

Respect? Who are you kidding, this is America. We don't respect anyone or anything that gets in our way. Seems to be a standard human idea, the only people that care about the laws are the ones who can't ignore them, as soon as they can, they do. It's why you never hear about Cuba violating the sovereignty of Somalia.

The Taliban controlled a small part of Afghanistan but happened to get the most tv coverage for those armchair soldiers and will no doubt return. Al Qaeda is a "catch all" western term (bogey man) and does not refer to any particular group of people. Afghanistan will return to tribal areas as it has always been throughout its history with the most powerful lords controlling/bullying/threatening the local population. Also, it is about time that the west realised that their version of democracy is not wanted in most parts of the world.

The US also destroyed much of Irans Navy and directly bombed oil refineries and weapon manufacturing plants in the south of Iran.

Really which manufacturing plant? The U.S. bombed the Iranian Navy as a direct response to the illegal mining of international waterways through the Persian Gulf and only bombed one oil refinery in retaliation for the illegal sinking of a Kuwaiti ship under a U.S. flag.

My above post was written from memory but an unthorough google search gave wiki as one source, quote "Information collected from Operation Eager Glacier, a top-secret intelligence-gathering program, was also used to bomb manufacturing plants inside Iran by the CIA". The US and USSR got heavily involved in helping Iraq when Iran looked like winning

They were the only recognized government of Afghanistan.

In this context it refers to a very specific group of Arab fighters in Afghanistan who were members of al Qaeda in 2001

Maybe so. Would be unfortunate for the afghan people. They overwhelmingly prefer the current government over the Taliban. Regardless afghan tribal warlords don't wage war against the people of the US

The US lost the war in afghanistan on obama's watch. Learn it, live it, love it. Uncle Sam will come limping home with his tail tucked between his legs like a beaten dog.

I am not speaking of what is commonly believed but instead what is in fact. The Taliban is of the deobandi sect, originating in india

What has Pakistan done to deserve respect?

They've done a lot to deserve contempt.

Nah, just ignorant. The Taliban follows the Deobandi sect of Islam. Its a fact. Your copy and paste mentioned that the Saudis have been accused of funding Lashkar-e-Taiba. A group started by Azzam, Bin Ladens spiritual guide. A Palestinian, trained in Islamic Scholarship in Egyptian Universities and by the Muslim Brotherhood. NOT Wahhabi.
