    ITs very strange...

can't say ANYTHING about Blacks... can't even IMPLY (w/ some ppl anyhow) that BHO is a rotten president (becasue he's not a true American) w/o some someone screaming RACISM... never mind he is destroying our country and we shouldnt give 2 hoots in... what color he is...

    please

can't attack Jews... (never could figure out why the Jews are so maligned... but then maybe its because they are the forefunners of the Catholics... that explains it)

can't say anything bad about those law breaking immigrants... (they are poor and etc)

but it is just SO SO

    SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

    cool to attack those Catholics..

this one book i read said something to the effect that Bob Hope's wife remained faithful and didnt pursue a divorce even after his cheating became known because of her catholic faith... something about how ALL catholic women are like that!!!!!!!!!!!!

    huh????

If you said all Blacks "are like that"

they would have you tarred and feathered and run out of town

Unless you live in Northern Ireland - and even there things are getting better - I dare say that you must be suffering from a rather worrisome persecution-complex. Or else you mistake attacking official viewpoints of the Catholic Church (because one happens to disagree with these viewpoints, which is perfectly legitimate for both Catholics and non-Catholics) with "attacking Catholics".

I don't attack Catholics, they love to attack me, however.

Don't agree with all said by OP or others but will say this: I have noticed that during Obamas presidency verbal attacks on Christians of all faiths have been more prevalent and so has Christianity as a whole. While there is constitutional separation of Government of Religion I have never seen so many attacks on those of the Christian faith. They may think they are causing people to question their faith but the result is quite the opposite. While not a radical religious person, I dislike the current attacks on all Christians. Especially the comments made by MSNBC radicals such that actually said that anyone that believed in the teachings of the Book Of Revelations was an idiot. Many Christians view the Book of Revelations and the entire concept in varying ways. Personally I believe the writings may have been more factual at the time they were written but I also believe they are an attempt to teach us what will happen if we start believing that religion is unimportant to our lives and culture and start following a group or individual that teaches the opposite of information documented by the those that wrote the chapters of the Bible. Do I know for a fact that what Methodists, Catholics, Lutherans, Jewish or any other religion is right or wrong in what they believe? No, and I question those that think they know the right answer. But I do believe that killing on the basis of ones faith/religion is wrong and not the intent of any god and that if we all follow the "10 commandments" the world would be better for it. You don't have to be religious to be a good person.

I would say that what ever religion you believe in, you should follow the ten commandments regardless of whether you consider them to be ordained by God. They are just good values to live by and to assure a peaceful world to live in.

Unfortunately, I believe that the morals and values of the U.S. have begun to crumble. What beliefs have we replaced replaced those Religious beliefs with? None. With the erosion of the beliefs and social norms the Country was founded on; I fear we are heading toward failure; just as the Roman Empire(which existed far longer than we have), the Egyptians, China empire and all others whose social cultures eroded and eventually caused their demise.

You worry me. What does whether someone is black or Jewish have to do with radical liberals attacking Catholics/Christians? I hope you don't think you are representing the beliefs of Republicans, Conservatives, Moderates, Centrists or any Political Group. Clearly you have issues.

    Are they, though?

Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image.
Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain.
Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.
Honour thy father and thy mother.
    Thou shalt not kill.
    Thou shalt not commit adultery.
    Thou shalt not steal.
Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.
Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour's.

In Italics are the ones that I would consider good values (and honouring thy Mother and Father is certainly arguable, depending on interpretation). Half of the commandments are worthless, and the rest barely scratch the surface of ethical behaviour. Any ethical person could come up with a better list of 10.

Wow, you may be an example of why our morals are crumbling. I would say it can't be bad to start with these ten. And, I have never. ever heard anyone question or argue against any of the 10 commandments. You have a right to do so but I hope that nobody listens to you.

You are speaking as if you are talking about facts. do you understand what I am saying? You are making assumtions about a lot of things without even giving real examples at the very least. Plus, a treatise on the "inferior black people" is far different than religious hatred in general.... I have to admit I'm not a huge fan of these types of pseudo rational threads....

I am not a citizen of your nation, and thus cannot be contributing to it's moral decline.

It wouldn't be *bad* per se, but the relevant commandments are so bloody obvious they hardly need stating.

The Eightfold Path, for instance, would at least have some degree of insight.

    Ever worked on the Sabbath?

Whats so immoral about having other gods?
Whats so immoral about graven images?
Whats so immoral about taking a name in vain?
Whats so immoral about working on the sabbath?
    Whats so immoral about coveting?

Half the bloody list is useless. Keep the other 5 if you want, but the result barely resembles the commandments.

Where's "Thou shalt not own slaves"?
    Where's "Thou shalt not rape"?
Where's "Thou shalt not abuse animals"?
Where's "Thou shalt not exploit others"?
Where's "Thou shalt not cause harm unto others"?

There we go. Add this to the other 5 and we have something resembling an ethical guideline for life. It took me all of 3 minutes.

It pre-dates my Political Forum days. I don't regret choosing it - how people react to it is incredibly telling.

Feel free to address the content of my post, rather than my name.

Perhaps they're bloody obvious because you've already heard them a million times, having been brought up in a millennia-old Christian culture and having you most fundamental moral views molded by it. Try starting from scratch with no knowledge, experience, or outside influence and see what you come up with.

Well, these are all predicated on the position that the God of Bible truly exists. If you deny that, you obviously won't get it. But if He does exist and the evidence shows it, then these are simply commands to acknowledge and worship Him.

Well, it's basically envy and motivates people towards various bad attitudes and actions, towards resentment of neighbors and even theft. It's one of the reasons democracies tend to fail, as people vote themselves other peoples' stuff.

To some extent, most of these are implied in the commandments listed ("thou shalt not steal" implies a respect for property, which in implies a respect for individual autonomy, which implies non-aggressionmore generally), many of are explicated in other portions of the Old Testament, and all of them are corollaries in Christ's great commandment: Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself.

Perhaps, but I doubt it. China and India were able to spring forth civilization with law and philosophy without any Abrahamic cultural influence.

Perhaps I misspoke. One could certainly argue that coveting is immoral. My issue with that commandment is not with the morality, but with the fact it is a commmandment.

It, alone among the commandments, is forbidding thought. The rest mandate or forbid action. It's certainly well meaning, I suppose, but its essentially creating thoughtcrime.

As an aside, desire for stuff is also why capitalism works.

My point is essentially that, if you were to write a list of 10 rules by which everyone in the world should live their life, there's no reason it should be the 10 commandments as they are. They contain useless rules, and miss important ones.

The great commandment you mention is certainly better, but it wasn't really in the scope of what I was talking about.

If you had to create just one rule, the great commandment would perhaps be worthy.

No one I have ever seen attacks catholics in general, but the Catholic church for it's crimes, such as protecting child molesters.

I haven't seen a catholic persecuted for being outspoken on their faith .. I have seen them being disagreed with and then mocked as they can't even comprehend that people will have differing views to them .. as I have seen others having the same done to them.

I think Christians need to look inward for the answers to the question "why are Christian values on the decline?". I come from a large middle to upper middle class family... even have a couple millionaires to boot. Out of the Christians in my family, some use drugs, some like to view porn behind the back of their wife, some like to comment on what a great rack some random woman has while they are out with the guys and away from the wife, some like to get blind stinking drunk and act like a fool. Then those same people give me grief about my long hair... me, the guy who does not do drugs, is happily married and does not need porn, who values his wife and never comments on other woman's assets... me who drinks like 6 beers a month... and they judge me for my long hair... LMAO!!! Hypocrites... and most Christians I have ever met are like this.

The problem as I see it is that Christians are very accepting of other Christians, but judge us heathens by standards that they cannot even adhere to in their own lives. Why should us non Christians take you all seriously? Perhaps if more Christians started acting Christian, the negative views towards Christianity in general would significantly lessen.

As for the decline of western civilization as we know it... I do not see it that way. For sure the wind of change is a blowing, but change is not synonymous with demise.

You can choose to be Catholic. You can't choose to be, or not to be, black.

People also don't get upset when you don't like Titanic. There's no laws set up to not allow that. Why? Because that is a choice.

Why didn't you use the Catholic version? or the Jewish version? Why did you choose the Protestant version?
