Ya, we have those already, they're called state driver licenses.

Be specific. What problems would it solve? I am on board with you. I think everyone should have some sort of gov issued identity card even before they are 16 and get a license

Some poor cannot get an ID under the Real ID laws now, and you want to make it likely harder. Add to that some people like me ,who currently have a Real ID and SSN, opt out of the system I carry and will show neither of them in most cases I will use them only where its required by Federal or state law which must be known to me or be shown to me in writing before I comply. And I avoid those cases where I must show it or allow it to be scanned where possible.

And what would the requirements be? Right now you need to show: a social security number, identification documents including proof of a residence and get these scanned into a state (Federal) database which I find offensive.

And currently if your a citizen you can be fully undocumented and its not a crime, if you make being without that a crime it then appears to me to be a Nazi state. I'm not opposed to ID the older rules where I brought my evidence, handed it to a government clerk at the DMV and after they examined them they would hand them back and issue the ID among the evidence a raised seal birth certificate, SSN and two proofs of a mailing address and you could use other evidence. So seems to me that latter option was reasonable.

Seriously show me any law requiring a citizen carry or use any form of identification, not immigrants, but a native citizen.

I do when its legally required. Any other use is optional and therefore a choice and I choose not to do so. Its my right to show it or not show it or to carry it or not carry it I'm a citizen after all,

For example my SSN the list of uses required is pretty modest and by law its not supposed to be used for identification for general use.

As for my state ID the uses are about that long but some are just silly like to buy a mature video game at Target they insist on running my SSN I told them to sell me the game and insisted on talking to the manager, when they refused I left and bought my game on Amazon.com and used a VISA gift card. Now its fun to also mess with people to I'll admit I'm stubborn when the rules make no sense. When I buy a narcotic drug via prescription I get it but a video game no way. Why should I just comply to requests?

We need a National I.D. Card for everyone....from the moment of birth.

I would eliminate having to have multiple i.d.'s and it would make it easier to arrest illegals in this country.

And if your a citizen that can't get one or keep it renewed? Homeless already have major issues maintaining ID if they can get it at all in Florida and if you decide to require everyone carry one or be arrested it does smack of a police state.

And what if people refuse to use it on religious grounds the Amish and others might in the US make this a 1st Amendment issue or blatantly just refuse to comply? I could be in the US, claim I don't remember where I was born and take a generic name and just make the authorities try to prove I'm not a citizen after all I'm a white native speaker and could say I recall I was born in California somewhere in 1967 as far as I was told but can't be sure and don't remember my SSN off hand - I'm John A Brown not sure what the A stands for I have some memory issues sorry about that. Unless I have a criminal record on file or other issues odds are low they could verify this or not without lots of work. Unless I'm in for a serious felony the cost to do so would be prohibitive.

A foreigner say a fluent speaker from Mexico could do the same thing and play the race card if they were overly eager after all how many Jose Cortez are there native born in the US any given year?

Or there is the old I'm me, I refuse on personal conscience to go along with you and refuse to carry ID and refuse to give you my SSN but my name is this and was born on this date. Now leave me alone. Under the law I identified myself and that suffices and as a citizen I'm not required to carry my papers.

We are transitioning into a police state....I expect to see some form of a National Identiy card movement before the end of Obama's term...Mexicans will fall into a different category but they will also be forced to have some form of National Identification....National Security will demand this.

They tried before and the people shot it down for Real ID which IS a national ID card in practice if not name. And people can't get those now if they have unusual backgrounds or are very poor. Mainly if you have no residence you can verify. Some can't get birth certificates or they don't have one. Others can't afford to maintain an ID legally. In Florida every time you change residences you have to get a new ID you have ten days to change the ID with a new cost each time and this means go through the process again. And what if your documents are lost or stolen?

And what if a lot of people just refuse?

I do. They're not really that expensive, and they're a necessity if you plan to travel to most places outside of the country.

They also are a federal ID, so there's less worry of state governments passing laws to make it easier for illegals to get them (like with driver's licenses).
