I know this is unknown to the general public, but living so close to a reservation it hits home. Women on the res cringe when they see white males. The only reason a white male would ever step foot on the res is to rape somebody. The sad thing is is the fact that the Native Government can't do anything, and the local police department usually won't act either. The only people that can prosecute these animals is the Feds, who usually decline. So there you have it. Just like in the days of Columbus, save White men are raping woman and in some cases murdering them, and simply walking away as if nothing happened. Despicable.

Funny how I work on the Tohono O'odaham res on a regular basis, along with having worked on the San Carlos, and Navajo Nation, and never once have had any Indian women cringe because they where under the impression I was going to rape them. Got facts? Some of the rape is by estranged spouses who are not themselves tribal members, who the Native court system cannot touch.

One of the provisions of the Violence Against Women Act, which some knuckle-dragging, drooling, inbred, narrow-minded sexist pig republicons beat to death in congress, would have given the tribal courts jurisdiction to arrest and prosecute ANYBODY who commits a rape on tribal lands.

I will tell you exactly what will stop such incidents, Native women ( I hate that term) as well as Native Men (cringe) take matters into their own hands and for their own community response teams who screen those who are entering the Reservation, and if one slips through, kill the bastard on the spot.

Local non-Native courts do not have jurisdiction over the reservations and the federal government is sometimes far too slow to do anything. The tribal courts are right there, and need to have jurisdiction over non-Native violators if anything is to get done about this problem.
