At least three people have been wounded in a shooting in the Santa Monica College area, California. The school is on lockdown and students are advised to stay away from the campus.

A “fully armed” suspect has opened fire at cars and a bus in the area, local police said. Witnesses reported hearing at least one shotgun blast and several handgun shots.

UCLA Medical Center officials confirm that two people have been hospitalized and are in critical condition, while one is in a serious but not life-threatening condition, CNN reports.

One suspect has reportedly been detained in the school's library and taken into custody. The police are now checking reports of a possible second shooter.

"We are aware of at least one suspect, there may possibly be others," said California Highway Patrol Sgt. Denise Joslin.

The incident happened miles from where President Barack Obama is appearing at a fundraiser. The Secret Service said that the shooting is not impacting the president's visit and is considered a local police matter at this point, NBC reported.

    Again?

    Interesting thing.

There have been something like (we shall not include this one yet) 12 mass shootings in recorded criminal history, in the US. All have come since the end of 'World War' 2. And something like ten of them happened in the past 15yrs alone.

Before we know anything about the case it is already a pro gun story, Really? Well, what if we learn this was another legal weapon? Then what? Great job the NRA and the pro-gun lobby is doing protecting the people from the tyranny of government -- let the criminals shoot the women and children first.

It's a familiar enough story - some jerk goes postal in an area where he's not likely to encounter any armed resistance.

Oh, I'm sorry if I misjudged you. I just expect the pro gun lobby now whenever someone leads in with how few mass shootings there have been, as if gun violence isn't picking people off one by one by the thousands every year.

Well, you know, part of the reason for these shootings may be that many universities have been turned into "gun free zones". At many public universities now, any student found having brought a gun with them, even if unloaded, even if they have a concealed carry permit, is immediately expelled, no questions asked, no chance for appeal.

So mass shooters can go to a public area now and shoot the place up, knowing that they will be completely unopposed, at least until police have had enough time to arrive (which is often 25-45 minutes).

Oh yes, there are millions of mass shooters just sitting around waiting for a 'no gun zone' to appear so they can go and get some target practice in ...........................

Actually, there have been over 65 mass shootings in the US since 1982. Prior to WW2, most people had revolvers or sawed off double barrel shotguns. Although the Chicago Typewriter was famous for such things as the Sait Valentine's Day Massacre, most people used hunting rifles in groups to kill masses of people, like in the Herrin Massacre near me when the mining company attempted to bring in scab foreign laborers during a strike and the miners killed them.

After WW2 a plethora of semi automatic handguns and assault rifles became common in the US and thus enabled single angry and unstable people to have the same firepower as a WW2 English rifle squad.

Nobody even dreamed of owning an RPK with a hundred round wind up drum and a bipod, along with a night vision scope in the 1970s and such things are as common as dirt since the 1980s.

Are Mass Shootings Becoming More Common in the United States?

Are mass shootings becoming more common in United States? Brad Plumer of The Washington Post thinks so:

Of the 12 deadliest shootings in U.S. history, six have taken place since 2007. (The Newto[w]n school shooting will likely rank second on that list.) Mass killings appear to be on the upswing -- even as other types of homicides and violent crimes are becoming less frequent.

David Brooks highlighted this discrepancy back in July. For much of the 20th century there were, on average, a handful of mass killings per decade. But that number spiked in 1980, and kept rising thereafter. In the United States, there have now been at least 62 mass shootings in the past three decades, with 24 in the last seven years alone. This has happened even as the nation's overall violent crime and homicide rates have been dropping.

I don't think that the automatic weapon thing has anything to do with it. When everyone had guns we didn't have this problem. It is a recent phenomenon. So what exactly is the cause?
The more tyrannical our government becomes, the more they want to disarm us.
With the help of big pharma and mind control technologies they have created drama that is convincing a lot of non-thinking people that indeed guns are a problem.
More attention needs to be drawn to the roll of SSRI's.

    Bad cultural habits that formed.

Reasons various, but Holywood plays a part.

Hollywood plays the major part. Starting back in the 1980's they began coming out with all these shoot em up movies with automatic and semi-auto weapons that glorify violence and gangland life and followed that with all these war movies that romanticize people unloading on "the enemy" with M-16's and the like. It throws fuel on smoldering embers in the brains of the most vulnerable.

That's can't be true. Santa Monica College is a Gun Free Zone, and we all know that criminals never break the law.

It's good to know that he had both arms.

Or was he one of those funky Hindu gods or an octopus?

Oh, there's been more than twelve. There'd be more, except, of course, the US citizen has the right to keep AND BEAR arms, so in many cases an attempted "mass shooting" is stymied by a citizen that shoots back. Sure am glad King Obama's gun grabbing fascists on the US Senate failed to pass his unconstitutional gun-grabbing agenda. He was so childishly annoyed, it was fun.

Maybe, however do consider that before those movies there were many, many very popular Western "shoot-em-ups". And they did not seem to influence people to go around with their old 45's killing people or having duels on the street.
Do you think that these newer movies are using subliminals that work on those who are suggestable and/or on mind-altering SSRI's?
