I was more thinking that you're not allowed to do it in a home with children living there. These are all reasonable compromises.

I don't think the nearby property owners should be compensated for the drop in what people think about the area, because the issue is whether or not the individual has the right to do it on his property. Nevertheless, I would be willing to only allow registered brothels in certain areas, but it's non-negotiable that people should be able to do it discretely in their own homes.

I wonder where you would concoct such an assumption. Mormons can have as many wives as they want... as long as we are talking consenting adults, it is no concern of mine... or yours. Now are you "one of those conservatives" who argues for "limited government" out of one side of your mouth while insisting that government be used as a tool to enforce your religious beliefs from the other?

I think I could live with it fine if those external costs were all wrapped up. I think of the buyer has her over in his home that solves all of those other problems, except maybe her security but it wouldn't be less secure then the current situation.

That's no justification for making it a crime. I got game. I get more tail then most men could even dream of. My life is literally a porn flick. If prostitution were legal, I would never have a reason to partake. But I think it should be legal. There is no legitimate reason that it's illegal to sell something that it's perfectly legal to give away.

That is BECAUSE it's illegal. Make it legal, run by legitimate business interests, where the law would protect the prostitute who complained of poor treatment rather than arresting her for being a prostitute in the first place, and that problem goes away.

Just like the war on drugs causes more harm than the drugs themselves ever possibly could.

I was talking about Makkede and not you, bro. While I don't recall you making a specific position on polygamy, I suspected you are like me and figure it's up to them. I apologize if my wording didn't make that clear. Sometimes I post from my phone when bored and tend to make some short cuts and/or misspellings.

Now as for my religious beliefs.... umm... let's see, there might be some sort of intelligent force out there, I can't say either way for sure. I'm pretty sure I'm not him or her if there is one. I do believe in the concept of Karma, though government legislation isn't needed nor wanted to make that happen. Government jis so inept, they'd find a way to (*)(*)(*)(*) that up, too. :)

Sorry. I don't believe you. And you stole your last line from George Carlin.

I don't care if you believe me or not, nor does it really matter if it's true or not (though it is), Carlin was right. Your making posts, not points. Why should prostitution be a crime?

I know, those dollar bills are filthy!

    What wife?

Why the hell should I care? I don't buy, I rent.

They're hookers, not rabid hyenas. Of course I'd be safe.

    Sure, why not?

Actually, that sounds awesome. It would certainly be an improvement over the Salvation Army solicitors.

Please tell me how many Nevada brothels you've worked at that led you to this conclusion.

I am SO going to try this!

Since when? Pimping is just introducing potential clients to escorts in return for a share of the profit.

What evidence do you have that this would have any kind of negative psychological effect? What makes you think the kids would even want to watch? Or that the clients would want them to watch? How would things be any different if it was just two people having sex in front of kids without money being involved?

You did not mention money in that argument. It is therefore invalid.

Why would I want to stop them from doing it in their home?

    No.

    What cost?

Well, that would certainly save me the trouble of driving! :roflol:

    WHO

    CARES

    ?

What people? And what would they be compensated for?

    WHO

    CARES

    ?

    WHO

    CARES

    ?

    WHAT

    COST

    ?

And that's why you're arguing about politics with anonymous strangers on the Internet.

He didn't say that it should be.

You are assuming too much about the good intentions of the people in the sex trade at the top. You would also need a way of detecting those shady slimebags who press the women in their lives into prostitution or the unethical lenders who will make life miserable for a woman unless she does engage in prostitution to satisfy or defer the debt.

A staggeringly large percentage of prostitutes world-wide are actually debt slaves.

To answer your question the "who" is the land owner who got stuck with a brothel next door. They certainly couldn't have been aware of the new business when they purchased. Will they be compensated? I feel in general zoning is partial taking and changes that reduce value should be compensated if filed within a reasonable time.

You get what you pay for. Do you really want to get the sushi from the gas station?

Zoning laws are fine. Not all libertarians think alike, just like not all conservatives or liberals think alike.

Same as permiscuious women. The only thing I would say is that a brothel would probably have all their girls on bc so as not to lose busines.

It's legal in the county I live in. I don't see what the big deal is, they are two consenting adults. It's nobodies business really, and the laws against it obviously don't stop it in other parts of the country.

I've read several libertarian arguments that they are very sexist laws that prohibit women from practicing prostitution. It's her body, she can do what she wants with it. The prostitutes are highly regulated here in Nevada and they have to take lots of std tests regularly I believe. It's protects the woman and the customers. Plus, if it's in a legal establishment there are almost no rapes, sexual assaults, and other abuses that illegal prostitutes have to deal with on a regular basis.

Just normal capitalism, obviously: sell your humanity and make yourself a thing, preferably spreading AIDS and pox.

From a legal standpoint? Nothing. From a moral standpoint? Depending on your beliefs, potentially a lot. But no matter what reasons you may have for prostitution being wrong, the government is not to get involved.

"Hookers" are treated very poorly because they are systematically marginalized and stigmatized by the criminalization of their labor. It's easier to abuse someone when they forced into a black market by the state. Legalization will bring transparency and standardization to the industry.

And what if you have a medical problem that makes you unattractive to the general populace? Many people who suffer from severe disorders utilize the services of sex workers in order to feel some intimacy and pleasure. I suppose we should throw these people in jail cells for doing something that is entirely human? Have some empathy, man! Not everyone is as suave as we are... 8)

Sex workers provide certain individuals with an invaluable service, sometimes even helping to repair deep-seated psychological trauma.

This is about compassion and empathy. We need to stop dehumanizing sex workers and their clients. Many of them are suffering from physical or psychological trauma (or both) that could be healed more effectively if we, as a society, were more accepting and pragmatic about this component of human culture. Legalize it and bring the kind of transparency and standardization that characterizes alcohol and pornography.
