    Was this a joke??

I wouldn't consider them a "Christian" band, but they are one of my favorite bands!!!!

Maybe I should have been clearer.
What is the definition of a Christian band?

Their artistic energies are spent in writting words and music that give glory to the Living God.

Nope, no Christian symbolism there. Of course every non-Christian guitar player pays megabucks to have their main axe customized with crucifix-shaped mother of pearl fret markers and almost always wears crucifix necklaces while on stage.

Here's some pretty strong CHristian symbolism:

Does that mean Cradle Of Filth are Christians too?

That forumer was me. And I was a bit taken aback by the responses to my comment.

I've been a Black Sabbath fan for decades.

I thought that all that Ozzy and Black Sabbath are the epitome of Satanism BS was a long gone rumor. but apparently the rumor lives on.

My impression has always been that Iommi, Dio and Butler are Catholic, and Ozzy is Anglican. And Bill Ward is...I dunno, just a typical crazy drummer who has a famous muppet son named Animal.

No, they just use a lot of that imagery for effect.

That's cool, I dig myself some Sabbath from time to time.

Perhaps subjective. But I see a Christian Band as a mouth piece for faith where there love of Christ is unequivocal and loudly proclaimed for all to hear.

I hear ya. I am no expert on Christian music but never in my wildest dreams did I ever think that anyone would ever say that Black Sabbath is a Christian band. I mean what next... will Slayer (my favorite band) be labeled as Christian?

You are not the only long time Sabbath fan.

Who is saying that they are Satanist? I am just saying that they are not Christian. Do you require them to be one of the other to like?

Please post links to prove that this is true. All I found on Ozzy is his being Anglican as a Child. I was raised as a Christian... and as soon as I was out of my fathers house I quit going to Church because I never liked it to begin with. Being raised a Christian is not what makes one a Christian. Belief that Christ is your Lord and Savior is what makes one a Christian (simplistic version).

And a key word in what you said "My impression". An impression does not always = a fact. I will believe that Sabbath is a Christian band when the members come out and say they are... or I see them coming out of a Church after attending mass.

That's the way that I see it. Black Sabbath, like many other Metal bands have lyrics that depict the battle between good and evil... it is a very popular topic and great for shock value.

So all who wear a crucifix are Christian? Perhaps they are mocking Christianity. Perhaps they use it like a stage prop. Perhaps they are secretly Christians. All we have is speculation and no actual proof that they are a Christian band.
