Great point. Christianity and Satanism are common themes in Metal and we see its symbolism all the time.

Why does their faith or lack of it matter?

Just because they speak of spiritual things does not mean they are talking about the Spirit of God. The Devil knows the word of God well, and he knows the truth, but he is the father of lies and the master of deception and wants to drag as many of us to eternal hell as he can.

It don't. The band has been around for 4 decades and just had their last new album top the charts in the US. A first for them in the US. And I don't think we should be conjecturing on their religious beliefs without first knowing their stance on this. I quite frankly I do not care what their religious view is I have been following them since their debut album "Paranoid" and will continue to follow them. Damn the religious view who cares! You either like them or you don't.

I can't say I've been around since their beginning, but I absolutely love Black Sabbath. The OZZ is hilarious. I love the fact that he can barely talk, but when he gets onstage behind the mic, he can belt out anything quite clearly, and he's got a highly distinctive voice. His onstage persona is cool, but off stage he's just a "goof", I love it!!! LOL!!

    War Pigs,, great track!

Many pundits still regard Paranoid as one of the best heavy metal albums ever released. My favourite Black Sabbath album and I still listen to it from time to time.

I remember when it was first released, I was in my senior years in high school.

putting a cross around your neck doesn't make you a Christian anymore then putting a big mac around your neck makes you a McDonalds restaurant.
