Not to mention Westboro has 100ish members and everyone else thinks they're whackos. How many violent Muslims are there and how many millions upon millions cheer them on every time they commit another terrorist act? Defenders of Islam NEVER seem to answer that question or simply resort to.."Not all Muslims are extreme..or its only a small group" and they would be right, depending how you interpret "small". Not all are crazy. The difference is, there aren't millions of Christians out there cheering on people getting killed. Can you say the same for Islam? NOPE. There are entire countries that abuse women...but then again, our definition of abuse is far different then theirs=(
You are correct, of course. Even the more liberal secular based nations of Islam, like Egypt, Turkey or Lebanon, would simply not allow their women to dress and behave as they do in the West. It's just not done.
So if Madonna is beheaded... what is the downside? It brings attention to the problem... and no more Madonna... I can't be the only one thinking it...
Just because their are more 'believers' who use said religions as justification for their twisted actions doesn't mean it's any better or worse. Extremist believers are the problem, not the silly book with words in it.
This is good, everyone needs to step up against Islam. It is a ridiculously oppressive cult that needs to be stopped.
That old hag is still alive. Christ, I thought that I was old but then when "Madonna" makes the headlines I realize that either society in the USA is either ill or crazy.
The Westboro Baptist Church is just a bunch of idiots who act out to provoke lawsuits i doubt they give a damn about religion.
Look, I like you. I used to argue this side. I mean really... if 1.6 billion people on the planet were terrorists.. we would be in deep (*)(*)(*)(*) right? The problem is clearly this. Islam is not a religion which requires "practuce"... it is a complete way of life. It encompases all OF life... politics, hand washing, war, peace... it is not a religion of anything... including peace, it is a religon of everything, including peace. Democracy is ruling Egypt... in an unconventional way. The elected leader imposed Sharia law... and the people... and really the women... protested. Getting gang raped at a peak of 80 per night (I will take bets on the muslim brotherhood and their "clerics" who assert that "good" muslim women will not protest... because rapes are happening. So clearly if a woman wants to protest Sharia law, she want's to be raped. This is not conjecture or speculation or interpretation. This is what happened... because Obama threw the weight of the United States behind yet another Muslim entity which wants Sharia law. Egypt is a KEY ally. This administration should have really kept out of the middle east altogether... everything they do is followed with a mushroom cloud.
I agree with you on this. Talking to some of the more devout guys I work with I find it difficult to debate because their is no room for any critical thought of the religion itself. Then again, some of the Christians in my church are a lot like that as well. Personally I think the problem is that, if you look at religions in the historical context, Islam is going through it's 'troubled dark period' just as Christianity and Catholicism have both as well. Unfortunately it is compounded by the fear and ignorance of a less thoughtful populace. I wish they would have stayed out of it as well. They would have been criticized at home for being 'weak' or whatever the term of the weak would be, but it would have shown those area's that the US is committed to changing how the world perceives them in it's foreign policy.
I don't understand how someone can look around the world today, see where all the trouble is coming from and then make the claim you did. I mean, ideally, we would love to say everyone is equal. No worse...no better. That's plainly horse crap, however. It doesn't fill me with pleasure to say Islam, at least a brand of Islam, is the problem with the world today by and large. It's just a fact! I don't see what your denial gets you. The Old Testament is filled with plenty of God inspired draconian craziness. How many Christians are actively trying to force world wide Christian rule? None that I can see. Perhaps it's because Christianity stopped long, long ago imposing itself on others. Of course, evangelicals would just love it if they could convert the world, but that choice depends on free will and it's not forced at the end of a butcher's knife held in bloody hands. Wise up!
I would say that a certain brand of Islam is A problem, but not The problem of the world. As it stands, I prefer to deal with people on an individual basis rather then try and paint a whole group of people based on the actions of a few. I'm not saying coddle the wrongdoers, I'm saying go after the wrongdoers only, rather then attacking anyone who believes in Islam and letting (whichever) God sort it out. And if you had read my previous post to yours, you would have realized I touched on this in my notion that Islam is now where Christianity was during the Crusades. Religions grow through age and I Islam is right now a cranky teenager who is learning to grow up.
Specifically as a source of violence and mayhem, I cannot think of a bigger problem than jihadist Islam. China, Russia, Iran, N. Korea...they are all big problems. But as a practical worldwide source of violent mayhem...it's Islam hands down. I took pains to make a distinction between benign and malignant Islam. I'm sure you are right though realizing that Islam is about a thousand years behind the West in terms of coexistence isn't too comforting. I'm sure their rate of improvement will be greatly accelerated in this communication age, though.
Actually I would say the biggest source of violence in the world is economic based. Here look Top countries in terms of violent deaths per 100K people http://www.worldlifeexpectancy.com/cause-of-death/violence/by-country Poorest 25 countries in the world based on GDP http://www.aneki.com/poorest.html?number=25 Notice some similarities? I will say that economically poor people are more inclined towards religion, which coupled together create an explosive combination. And I thank you for that.
I haven't seen anybody lately blowing himself up in a crowded marketplace screaming "where is my checkbook" or "i want money" but i've seen plenty scream allah ackbar!
Some religious people, whether Christian, Muslim, Atheist , Satanic, etc... are easy to take offense and try to paint themselves a victim as often as possible.
Of course that too. Who cares how crazy they are, as long as they don't hurt anyone. I'll take crazy whackos who stick to themselves, paint whacky signs or make whacky statements over millions who cheer on beheadings, celebrate when Americans die and strap bombs to themselves and their children in the name of their god. Anyone who seriously compares Islam's violence with other religions must live in the bizzaro world because no other religion has killed as many people in recent history as Islam. Its not even close. Those who defend them are just as nuts.
Well yeah. Religious fervour to the point of suicide bombing is easiest to stoke in the poor and uneducated.
Well, I think several of the OWS rallies came very close to that insofar as crimes committed at their rallies. I think the only reason they weren't blowing themselves up is because they realized someone would swipe their laptops after they died.
If she's still residing in Great Britain, she'd best WATCH OUT. Lord knows, the islamist savages who are unquestionably there, have NO FEAR of British men standing up to them, and will butcher the "Material Girl" like a goat, if they really believe she's "insulted islam".
Today the big part of people who chose Islam is women , why ? Because of islam is an oppressive religion on women ?
Here, just for you: http://www.historytools.org/sources/DR-women.pdf How come I, a foreigner, have to educate Americans on their own history? I'd be a little embarrassed, frankly.
Please educate yourself. Your ignorance of American history is no excuse for such a lame dodge. A large part of the opposition to universal suffrage was based on religious prejudices of the dominant Christian culture.
