Snowden is with Wikileaks lawyers. Hopefully, he has already passed on his evidence of US
mod edit >>>flame bait<<< criminality to third parties who will reveal it to the world's public. Then we might see the spying machinery start to break down and we'll be able to think about a better future for our kids. A surveillance-free future.

I'd have thought that it was Obomba who was in trouble  - and all his little drone-huggers.

Thank you, Mr. Snowden. That's the tip of one tentacle chopped off.

' Alexander maintained the surveillance is legal because it was approved by the secret Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court,..'

You couldn't make it up.......but they did.

As Putin said, it was the USA that decided to put Snowden in Russia when it cut off his passport while enroute from Hong Kong to another country. The USA literally trapped him in the Russian airport.

I guess, the "drone huggers" figured that Putin would cave in to their hypocrisy.

Ha haaa ... they may hate rats but they love Snowden !! He will be treated as a hero.

The US has no respect for international law, Snowden. The Russians have been saying this for years because it is true and Russians people are well aware of the disgusting and hypocritical way the US has acted on the world stage.

Snowden will be treated like a hero.

No he's not.. He's sittin' pretty.

What's the USA going to do about their "disappointment" in the decision? They threatened to not send a delegate to an upcoming planned global summit meeting!!

    Oh my!!!!

Looks like they can't do anything right now except whine and cry.

I wouldn't say that. The Russians probably won't assign guards to him 24/7 and he'll have to sleep sometime. Yep, he might "disappear" some time in the not so distant future when he's no longer in the news and people stop paying attention to him.

You do realize an overt act of war against Russia to assassinate Snowden would give 100% credence to everything he said.

They'll try to justify it.. He committed a crime!! Like assassination is not a crime.

putin is a former intelligence oficer, liking snowden would be foreign to his nature

he's also tough on terrorism and a strict law-and-order guy, snowden lied to his own government

and stole classified information that he was required to pledge he would keep safe

    what joke

no american or agent of the usa is going to assassinate snowden

after he gets tired of being used and abused in russia

he'll be brought to trial in the united states

He chose to come to Russia. What have the Russians done to use and abuse him?

    Brought by whom?

He's an asset to be traded at a later date. Next time the russian needs wheat or one of their own spy gets caught, they'll trade him just like an old car. Beside they only gave him a one year asylum and they haven't issued him a passeport, so he can't go anywhere. He is in fact under guard and just as much a prisoner.

If putin really wanted to help the guy, he could've chartered a flight and drop him anywhere he wanted without anybody knowing about it. But instead he is assigned to residence under guard...

Is that the same intelligence officers who intercepted a plane of the Bolivian president, thinking Snowden was on it, inciting a diplomatic row which likely prompted multiple asylum offers from Latin-American countries?

Yes at the behest of the USA who suspended his documents. This situation was completely just dropped into Russia's laps. Although fair point to 4th Battalion we can't necessarily conclude what the Russian motives are in this situation.

So who might have tricked Snowden to come to Russia?

Irrespective why, it's an action the USA took. You can't blame Russia for something the USA did.

I wouldn't go that far. He is mostly the by-product of a "you owe me everything" generation. He was raise to think that he has all the rights and none of the responsibility. We, the older generation, are partially to blame. We outsourced the education of our childs while chasing the dream of our career and fortune, instead of just doing our job as parents. In short we created the Snowden and the guy who leaked secrets to wikileaks.

    Yeah I think you're right.

Of course, if I had the choice to be Americas's most wanted, public-enemy number one, ALREADY branded guilty w/o due process or trial, going to America, the same country that tortures innocent people to death (who aren't even accused of any crime at all) vs. Russia, I would still put my bets on Russia.

Of course, Russia aren't human-rights friendly themselfves, and also imprison and torture dissidents without trial. But the difference is, Snowden is the political enemy of the USA, not Russia. (If anything, Russia would like him for exposing USA crimes).

I think 4th Battalion is closest to being right. And I like the way he put it too, Trade him in like a used-car.

I'm not sure Snowden played this one the best he could have. He shouldn't have been aimlessly running about wondering where he is to be living. He should have been sat, with his son, on a beach somewhere, sipping pina coladas, and from that point, released all that juicy information.
