Yet another confluence of circumstance. Imagine as a parent you let your kids sleep over at a friends and then get a phone call informing you of their death like this. http://www.torontosun.com/2013/08/05/escaped-snake-kills-two-kids-in-new-brunswick CAMPBELLTON, N.B. -- Two young brothers who were at a sleepover in an apartment above an exotic pet store in Campbellton, N.B., were killed by a large African python that got loose early Monday. The python escaped from the Reptile Ocean exotic pet store and strangled the children, Connor Barthe, 5, and his brother Noah, 7, who were found at 6:30 a.m. by an apartment resident who called 911.
The python did not escape the pet shop, it was a "pet" in the flat. I find it very odd that the python killed two kids and did not eat, they typically "asphixiate" their pray and then consume, not "strangle" and leave. Why did the second kids not wake while the first was being strangled? Lastly, why the hell is it legal to keep these types of animals as pets? Seriously! They belong in the wild, not in small appartments.
The cage apparently had two locks on it at all time. Effectively there was no reasonable way this snake could've gotten out other than the owner to blatantly just not lock it up at all. But given that so far a great deal of snake experts have come out, including the local zoos, pointing out that this situation was quite unusual and that a snake like that wouldn't kill both boys at the same time. Snakes like that don't just sneak in and kill (Both at the same time? In different beds? Without a struggle?) and then leave. Hence why police are waiting for the autopsies, since this looks like a possible murder.
It's an interesting story, but I don't see how it's political. Apparently owning the python was illegal in New Brunswick, so you can't even argue about the laws involved.
